Chapter 307

Words:1763Update:22/06/26 10:54:12

Report

"Several people in the crew said that Todd left for a while before Sarah's body was found, but it was only for a short time, less than five minutes," she said.

At this point, she didn't continue. "That's about it."

Luke nodded and looked at Elsa.

Elsa concluded, "So, Todd is indeed a suspect, but we don't have any direct evidence."

She looked at Luke and asked, "Did you find anything else?"

Luke shook his head. "Nothing."

Frowning, Elsa thought for a moment and said, "Then let's call it a day and go back to the police department."

If Todd was the suspect, it was unlikely that he would abandon his job and run away, given that he was a minor celebrity in the industry.

It was rare for the police to get results in a day. The two cases on Jennifer's side had been solved so quickly only because Luke happened to be able to do it.

Luke said, "We need to talk to Mike again. We need to figure out why he was almost killed."

Elsa nodded. "He's been sent to the hospital. We'll be there soon."

Then, everyone heaved a sigh of relief because they could finally go home and rest.

But what Pierce said next didn't put them in a good mood, and filming was suspended for the day.

They would be notified tomorrow when they would start work again.

On the other side, Elsa took Luke and Selina to the hospital to look for Mike, while the other three went back to sort through the files.

They found Mike's bed at the hospital.

The crew had paid for Mike's hospitalization, and he had almost lost his life on the set. Although he had asked for it, Pierce didn't want to make a big deal out of it.

Seeing that Luke had even closed the door, Mike grew nervous.

He had been taught a lesson by Luke, and he still respected the young detective.

Luke didn't ask him questions, but simply left the job to Elsa.

A moment later, under Elsa's various hints, Mike finally told them what he knew.

The person who had hired him to scare people in the studio was … Sarah Poch.

The three of them looked at each other and felt that it was quite weird.

Sarah had hired someone to pretend to be a hanged body, only to be turned into a real corpse herself.

Well, she was even more miserable than Mike. At least, Mike was fully clothed, but she had been hung naked from the ceiling.

Elsa persisted and got Mike to say something even more interesting.

To convince Mike to pretend to be a corpse to scare people, Sarah had mentioned that it was Todd's arrangement and the directors' decision. Mike wouldn't be in trouble.

Mike was also an actor, and he knew who Todd was, so he agreed without hesitation.

The three of them looked at each other again. Sure enough, there was something wrong with Todd.

But it was unnecessary for him to kill Mike.

Nobody thought that there was anything wrong with Sarah's acting when she saw Mike's corpse. Even Pierce, who had always been dissatisfied with her acting, didn't see anything wrong.

That was why Mike had only heard about Sarah's death from Sarah. Who knew if Sarah had used Todd's name to deceive people?

Of course, if Mike had died tonight, Todd would have even less to do with Shallan's death.

The enquiries after that were fruitless.

Mike had only met Sarah. He didn't even see Sarah and Todd together. What he said couldn't be used as evidence, but only as a direction of investigation.

This was how the police handled cases. They needed evidence.

But Mike's words made Elsa even more certain that Todd was a suspect.

It was much easier to keep an eye on Todd than to find a suspect among the fifty crew members.

After that was done, everybody went home to get some rest.

Naturally, the three rookies had to work overtime. Elsa simply called back and told them to look into the case, before she went to bed.

That was how rookies were treated.

They had to work hard if they wanted to make a name for themselves in the Major Crimes Division.

After dinner, Luke and Selina did some low-intensity training before going to bed. Selina finally went to bed.

Luke stayed up all night again.

He actually didn't really care about this new case.

It was perfectly normal for him to find evidence to arrest Todd, and even if he couldn't find any, he would be fine.

He had handled over a hundred cases in the Key Case Investigation Unit, but he had only solved around thirty cases. This made his team the partners with the highest rate of solving cases in the Key Case Investigation Unit.

In his position, he had to learn to give up when the time was right.

Those who were too kind and benevolent couldn't be good detectives. They would probably quit after a year.

The next day, Luke and Selina went to Elsa's office, only to see the three exhausted rookies reporting to her.

Luke and Selina didn't say anything. They simply nodded and listened on the side.

After they were done, Elsa looked at Luke and said, "It seems that this case won't be easy."

Luke nodded. "No matter how many suspicions you have, you won't be able to convict Todd without evidence."

In fact, everybody knew that Todd's identity was the real problem.

It wasn't because he was powerful, but because he knew too many people in the entertainment industry.

As long as some of those people spread rumors to the media, the police department would have a headache because they didn't have any evidence.

Elsa thought for a moment and said, "Elizabeth and I will follow up on this case. You can take other cases first."

Not only could she train the three new detectives in this way, but she could also ensure that her team's efficiency in solving cases wouldn't drop too much.

Luke nodded and said, "I'll pay Jennifer a visit and ask her if she has any news."

Elsa didn't waste any time. She nodded and told everybody to get back to work.

After Luke and Selina left, he called Jennifer.

It was Jennifer's private number. He had gotten it yesterday.

Jennifer hesitated for a moment, but eventually said that she would get back to him later.

A few minutes later, she called back. "Pierce is at my place. Do you want to talk to him?"

Luke was more than willing to.

Compared with Jennifer, Pierce had been Todd's partner for more than ten years, and it was easier for him to dig up information.

When they arrived at Jennifer's place, Luke and Selina found that the three security guards weren't the same as before.

After checking their police badges, the two new security guards let them in.

Luke and Selina met Jennifer and Pierce in the familiar back garden.

The two of them sat under a parasol, quietly drinking coffee.

Luke and Selina sat down, and Jennifer summoned a maid, who was in her forties. She had a kind face and was a little chubby, but her service attitude and the coffee she served were excellent.
