Luke waited for a moment before he followed them in his car.
After driving for a while, Selina warned him, "Judging from where they're going, they're probably going to take Route 91. That way, they'll be able to choose Route 605, Route 5, or Route 57 to escape quickly."
Luke hummed a response.
Suddenly, three SUVs appeared behind him.
He quickly checked the surveillance feed, only to see that it was Big Nick and his buddies from the county police.
Frowning, Luke took a right turn at the next intersection to avoid this road. He then sped up and circled around before he returned to the road he had been on earlier.
At that moment, he was already in front of the robbers' two SUVs.
It was a good thing that the county police led by Nick had arrived, or Westside would have to wrangle with the county police department later on.
Suddenly, the tires of a large truck not far in front of them exploded with a bang, denting the back half of a car next to it.
The truck suddenly swayed and scraped a few cars on the side before it finally came to a stop.
The driver of the truck got out and looked at the scene with a gloomy expression. He knew that he was in trouble this time.
After a while, several drivers got out of the car and surrounded the guy, causing a ruckus.
Some called the police, but the road was instantly congested.
Luke's car was fifty meters away from the crash site, and he couldn't move at all.
He looked at the surveillance feed with an odd expression.
Selina happened to raise her head and look at him. "The robbers have been stopped too."
Luke sighed helplessly. "I hope we don't hurt too many people."
There wasn't much he could do in this situation.
There were eight fully-armed robbers in two cars, and they were probably from the special forces. Also, it was a very tense moment.
It was impossible for Luke to reveal his full strength in broad daylight.
More importantly, Nick and the county police officers had arrived at the back of the traffic.
Based on what Luke saw, he didn't think that Big Nick, who had a bad temper and was full of hooliganism, would be able to hold back.
"Let's change," said Luke.
Selina pressed a button, and the back of the passenger seat fell down. She then climbed into the backseat and quickly put on the equipment that Luke threw at her.
The bulletproof vests were the most important; everything else was secondary.
Luke also darkened the windows to keep an eye on the robbers and the county officers behind them.
A moment later, he couldn't help but curse in a low voice, "Are you crazy? There are dozens of cars here, and there are people in them. "
He had wanted to wait for the robbers to drive to a less populated area before making his move, but Nick and his men clearly didn't have the patience.
The county officers in the back had already opened the doors and got out one after another. All of them were armed with heavy firearms like the ones Luke had seen in the office at noon.
Luke quickly checked his own guns and tossed an M4A1 to Selina, who was in the backseat. He didn't take any for himself.
It wasn't his first time fighting in such a close distance.
He had done this once to eliminate Sergei's gang in New York.
Although his current opponents were more elite, his strength was not the same as before.
Within a range of 20 meters, his attack speed was definitely faster than these robbers who were using automatic rifles.
The next moment, he heaved a sigh of relief.
Nick and the county officers weren't too crazy.
They had come all the way from the back. The twelve county officers spread out and slowly pushed forward, warning the people in the cars to either lie down or open the doors and run.
They were wearing army-green bulletproof vests, and the bright yellow SHERIFF logo on them clearly told everyone who they were.
Looking at the heavy firearms in their hands, almost all the people in the cars that they had warned opened the doors and ran.
It wasn't safe to hide in a car; who knew if they would be hit by a stray bullet?
The county officers weren't holding pistols, but automatic rifles. Anyone with any common sense knew that there was almost nothing in a regular car that could block a rifle except the engine.
But a car only had one engine, and it couldn't be completely safe.
Changing into her gear, Selina examined her rifle and asked in a low voice, "When do we take action?"
Luke frowned.
He really didn't dare open fire in the current situation.
This was Los Angeles County, not downtown Los Angeles.
To make matters worse, both the county officers and the robbers were armed with heavy firearms.
If Luke ran out and fired the first shot, he would be responsible for all the casualties that followed.
Right now, it was impossible for him to instantly kill eight fully-armed and highly vigilant robbers. These guys were all from the regular army.
"Wait, don't be hasty," he said.
But in the next moment, Luke's voice changed. "Sh * t!"
That was because he saw a man get out of the passenger seat with an M249 paratrooper machine gun.
Lunatic!
That was Luke's only thought.
It was just a robbery. Was there a need to bring out such a lethal weapon? This wasn't a war-torn country.
Thinking quickly, Luke quickly took out a tear gas grenade from his inventory. He pulled out the safety, got out of the car, and threw the grenade out.
With his current strength, fifty meters was a piece of cake for him.
A moment later, there was a bang, and smoke suddenly rose near the robbers' cars.
Startled, the officers in the back immediately lowered their bodies.
The robbers on the other side, however, were too professional. They quickly threw out a few gas masks, and they quickly put them on.
Luke was lost for words. Are you robbers or anti-terrorists? They had brought those things along with the car.
But the tear gas grenade he threw had achieved his goal.
The robbers' rhythm had been disrupted, and the county officers behind them were alarmed by the noise. They slowed down their advance and paid more attention to concealment.
Luke got back into the car and closed the door. He was slightly relieved.
If he hadn't done that just now, a few of the county officers might have been killed in the line of duty.
While those guys might be dirty cops, there was no concrete evidence. Also, they were in the middle of arresting robbers, and Luke couldn't just watch them die. Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of gunshots rang out. Selina was quite shocked. She checked the surveillance image on the tablet that Luke gave her, and her mouth opened wide. "A machine gun? Are you kidding me? "
It was hard for anyone who hadn't seen a machine gun fire before to imagine the power of such a lethal weapon.
There were countless machine guns in movies, but most of them had been weakened for the sake of the plot.
The explosive attack of a few hundred bullets brought an advantage in firepower that could suppress dozens of infantrymen to the point where they could not even lift their heads.
The county officers on the other side of the robbers were well aware of that.
Almost all of them lay on the ground and didn't dare raise their heads.
Even so, two screams could be heard amidst the gunshots.
