Chapter 342

Words:1779Update:22/06/26 10:54:20

Report

The middle-aged man stretched out his hand. "Hello, Detective Luke. My name is Bill Yorington. Thank you very much for helping Palmer. "

Luke shook hands with Bill with a smile. "You're welcome. She's my friend and my colleague on the case."

Bill's body was thick and strong, but his narrow eyes and thin, wide lips made him look cold and gloomy.

There was only indifference in his grayish-white eyes. Even though he was thanking Luke, he didn't feel any warmth at all.

Luke wasn't surprised.

Bill was the deputy director of the DEA's Los Angeles branch. Nobody knew how many drug dealers had been killed by his hands, not to mention how much power he wielded.

From this, it could be seen how solid Palmer's backing was.

Whoever wanted to kill her probably feared that they would be tracked down, and might have to deal with Bill himself.

Unlike most deputy directors who preferred to work in the office, Bill had been promoted from a frontline agent, and his temper was rather irascible.

When his temper flared up, he would pick up his rifle and start a fight with the drug dealers.

This bigshot had clearly been infuriated by the drug dealers' attacks tonight. At the same time, the two suspected moles couldn't be handed over to LAPD.

That was a family scandal, and the DEA had to deal with it themselves, not LAPD.

Even if Luke saved Palmer and discovered the two agents who were suspected to be moles, there was no room for negotiation.

Only by keeping things under control internally would the bad news not spread, and the Los Angeles branch of the DEA wouldn't have a credibility crisis.

After exchanging a few polite words with Deputy Director Bill, Luke tactfully left.

Bill was too powerful, and he wasn't a direct boss, so there was no need to curry favor with him.

Before he left, he gestured at Palmer and took two steps away from the car.

Luke said with a smile, "I'm going to use that favor."

Palmer said, "Tell me about it."

Luke said, "No matter how busy you are with this case, don't forget to visit Martin now and then. As long as you chat with him a few times, you'll be able to repay the favor. How does that sound?"

Palmer stared at him for a moment, before she sighed. "You're not Martin's long-lost brother, are you?"

Luke smiled. "I don't think so, considering my looks. Alright, deal? "

Palmer nodded without hesitation. "Deal."

Luke said, "If possible, it would be best to have dinner with Martin. This is not a favor, just a suggestion. "With that, he waved goodbye and turned to leave.

Palmer looked at his back, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. She shook her head and got into the car. "Let's go back to the station. We're going to be busy today."

After talking to the patrol officers, Luke got into his car with Selina.

As he drove, he called Elsa. "Boss, that sniper might be useful. Don't let the DEA know, and don't let them take him away. I'll update you when I get back."

The two returned to the police station.

In the middle of the night, the police station that was bustling with people during the day was no longer bustling with noise. There was only the occasional sound of cursing and the ringing of the phone.

He rushed to Elsa's office, only to find that Dustin was there too.

After they closed the door, Luke told them what happened today.

Elsa didn't say anything as she looked at Dustin, who was pacing back and forth.

A few minutes later, Dustin nodded. "Got it. You two can stop investigating the case."

Luke shrugged. "Deputy Director Bill is here. I don't have the authority to investigate it even if I wanted to."

Dustin's face was calm, but he thought to himself, Do you think I don't know how bold you are? If I don't give you a heads up, what if you do everything the DEA does?

Luke's earliest accomplishment was killing thirteen gunmen from a drug gang in one night.

Dustin didn't think that Luke would go easy on a drug gang; it was more in line with his personality to be more ruthless.

Besides, how many drug gang gunmen had Luke taken care of today?

In the afternoon, he had given two gunmen to the DEA, and a sniper had brought back the kumquat.

In the evening, three gunmen had been shot in the head and sent to the forensics department. One of them had been shot three times in the chest and abdomen, and died before the ambulance reached the hospital. None of them were alive.

Luke himself wasn't scared, but how could Dustin not be?

After giving the order, Dustin said, "Okay, you can go back. You have work tomorrow." He then got up and left.

The three of them rose and saw their boss off.

Elsa picked up her bag at the door. "Okay, we've finally closed a case. Let's keep up the good work tomorrow."

Luke snorted and left with Selina. He helped Elsa close the office door. "Boss, aren't you going to praise us?"

Elsa didn't even look back. "Forget it. Just don't blame me for the other two cases you're working on."

Luke didn't say anything.

He wasn't an idiot.

It was almost certain that he would wrangle for the remaining two cases. The only difference was the number and severity of the cases.

Dustin and Elsa were the professionals when it came to wrangling. Luke just had to work hard.

Elsa wasn't asking him for a guarantee. She was just reminding him not to go too far, or she and Dustin wouldn't be able to handle it.

The three of them went home in two cars.

After they got home and had something to eat, Luke began to search for information.

He felt that it was a pity.

The gang that had hired the gunmen to kill Palmer was most likely from 23rd Street, which was a very large gang in Los Angeles.

Well, it was also one of the main targets that Luke had purged several of their nests.

But the gunmen weren't members of 23rd Street, but another gang that did business with them, the Hell Mushrooms.

Last time, Luke caused a lot of trouble in WD36 and incited internal strife, which increased the crime rate in Los Angeles.

Now that the DEA had their eyes on 23rd Street, it seemed that he could fish in troubled waters? Luke pondered.

Once the DEA's revenge operation began, both the police and the gangs would definitely take action, and it wouldn't be unusual for the gangs to get into trouble.

Luke was scheming in his heart. Everybody would want to see WD36's splinter group disappear, right? Including their peers.

The next morning, Selina was surprised to see Luke come out of his bedroom. "You haven't made breakfast yet?"

Luke chuckled. "I feel like sleeping in now and then. You know, I'm not like a certain someone who sleeps until eight every day."

Selina snorted. "How many people train until twelve and go to bed at one?"

Luke said, "That's why I've prepared new snacks for you today."

Selina had already rushed to the toilet out of reflex and washed up quickly.
