Chapter 27

Dead of night!

The pirates who had been fighting all night were not in the mood to clean up. They dragged their tired bodies to find a bed. The crowded cabin was empty, and even the echoes of their snoring became empty.

Corpses were scattered on the deck, and severed limbs were scattered everywhere. It was quiet.

The slippery and sticky hull was covered with blood that looked like an abstract painting, and it slowly dried up. The fallen organs and flesh gathered in the north sea wind and solidified into a ball of pickle.

The six surviving pirates were tied by coarse hemp ropes and their hands and feet were tied together under the thick mast. Their mouths and noses inhaled the cold wind mixed with the smell of blood. Their clothes were soaked in blood and stuck to their wounds, and they were exposed to the sea breeze all night. It was estimated that they would all be infected the next day.

Infection, fever, death, this was the normal rhythm.

They couldn't break free from the rope and could only wait for death.

The pirate appointed by Via as the new chief officer whistled with excitement. He didn't need to squeeze in the congested lower cabin, even though it was empty. He should have gone to the chief officer's room, but he went to the old Mur's room. He felt that the bed in the old Mur's room was softer and more comfortable.

There was still a pool of blood and broken blades on the floor. The old Mur's body was missing. He guessed that Via asked someone to collect it.

He felt the soft touch of the bed and closed the door with satisfaction. Soon he heard the sound of breathing and snoring.

In the morgue.

Via personally carried the old Mur's body over. The ship doctor and William quickly took over and carefully placed the body on the bed.

"Suture the wounds on the old Mur's body. We'll bury him at sea tomorrow morning."

"Don't worry, Captain."

After a brief order, Via scratched the ground with his sword and touched the pile of "corpses" under his feet. He frowned. "What's with the bugs in the corpses?"

The doctor's forehead was covered in cold sweat. Yarlin, who was behind him, had his head lowered. There was no expression on his face.

"I dissected Jack's body and found something strange in his body. It seems to be the egg of some kind of bug. I suspect that the reason why the dead body can move is because of the bug egg, but I can't be sure." The ship doctor's face was pale, and he stuttered.

"Insect eggs?" Via didn't doubt the doctor's words. He just thought that the doctor was frightened by the worms in the corpse. After all, just imagining the scene in his mind made Via's heart palpitate. "Where did the eggs come from?"

"I'm not sure. Strange things always happen on the sea. Perhaps he accidentally encountered it on one of the islands." The ship's doctor forced himself to give a guess.

This explanation wasn't convincing. However, Via couldn't think of any other reason. Moreover, he was just a mediocre ship doctor. Via couldn't expect him to give a brilliant and rigorous answer. In fact, the fact that the ship doctor could find the eggs in the corpse was already out of his expectations.

Since he couldn't figure it out, he didn't want to think about it anymore. The sea was never short of strange and dangerous things. The absurd and strange legends were even more so.

As for the possibility that it was man-made?

This thought only flashed through Via's mind for a moment before it was extinguished by his rationality. There wasn't a single crew member on his ship that could have such a shocking ability.

From a certain point of view, Via's judgment wasn't wrong. After all, Yarlin wasn't Yarlin anymore.

"So, what are you doing now?" The last trace of doubt in Via's heart was dispelled.

"Doing some necessary checks. It seems like the results are good. Other than Jack and the other two, I didn't find anything strange in the other corpses. We should be able to rest assured." The ship doctor wiped the cold sweat off his forehead and replied with a long sigh.

Via's face looked better. He also didn't want any strange eggs in his body.

"Captain, don't worry. We will take care of these corpses. Tomorrow, they will be buried together with old Mur." Just when Via wanted to ask something, Yarlin suddenly stood out from behind the ship doctor and interrupted.

When Old Mur's name was mentioned, Via suddenly lost the mood to talk. He grunted and turned to leave.

After closing the door and hearing the sound of the swords hitting the deck gradually disappear, the ship doctor collapsed on the floor. His entire back was drenched in sweat.

"Alright, continue. There's still half that hasn't been converted." Yarlin's face was cold. He wasn't worried that Via would discover anything. The only thing he needed to worry about was the delay. He didn't know how many people had already died.

These 'corpses' were already regarded as his' first bucket of gold '. At this stage of primitive accumulation, any bit of waste was heartbreaking.

In the end, there were still three corpses that couldn't hold on. They died prematurely, causing the conversion to fail.

"Thirteen!"

Yarlin immediately calculated in his mind. Including the ones that had been successfully converted, he now had a total of thirteen corpses that he could control.

"Fortunately, there are still a few supplements outside. This amount is not far from enough." Yarlin licked his lips. He rubbed a ball of thread in his hand and let out a faint laugh.

Late at night, the pattering of rain began to fall.

Gucci raised his head. His cracked lips opened. The rainwater flowed down his swollen throat and into his body. He seemed to feel that his entire body had regained some strength.

"Idiots, hurry up and wake up if you don't want to die." Gucci lowered his voice and growled. He didn't want to die on the Via. He hadn't completely given up struggling.

Several pirates with fever woke up in a daze. The cold rain and Gucci's roar seemed to inject a trace of vitality into their bodies.

"We can't move. Those bastards tied us too tightly. We can't break free."

"Don't talk nonsense. Try your best. As long as you can break free from one hand, we'll be free. While Via and the others are sleeping, this is our last chance." Both of Gucci's hands were rubbed against his back. Because he used too much force, a layer of flesh was scraped off from his wrists. His thumbs were twisted in a weird way, and the veins on his neck were exposed. The blood vessels were wriggling like countless earthworms. "We'll be dead by tomorrow morning. Wier will torture us to death."

Several pirates' lips were white. They recalled some terrible scenes. So, they all rubbed their wrists like crazy.

Skin, flesh, and rough hemp rope fought bloody battles. As the flesh on their wrists was rubbed off layer by layer, with a crunching sound, Gucci's throat made an inhuman roar. He suddenly pulled out his bloody right hand.

The other pirates all stopped and stared at the hand in ecstasy. A hand with almost no skin, bloody muscles and bones exposed in the rain. They stared at the hand as if they were staring at the world's most magnificent art.

That was their hope!

"Sorry to disturb you." A joking voice sounded softly in their ears.
