Chapter 22

Report

It was night, the sky was dark and there was no moon.

The waves crashed, the wind howled, and there was the sound of water dripping on the deck. It was as if someone was dragging their wet shoes on the floor, scratching them.

Shakey, who had just finished discharging water and lighting a cigarette at the stern of the ship, followed the sound. In the darkness of the night, there was a figure walking on the deck. The figure's back was facing him, so he couldn't see clearly.

"What are you doing?"

Something big was going to happen tonight. Shakey's nerves were tense. He didn't walk forward. Instead, he shouted in a low voice from afar.

"Shakey, don't trust Lowe."

Unexpectedly, when he wasn't there, the figure in front of him seemed to be waiting for him. His feet also stopped. Before the figure completely turned around, a cold and hoarse voice first entered his ears.

The voice was unexpectedly familiar. It was actually Bill. Shakey's pupils shrank. He subconsciously took a step forward. His expression was vigilant and doubtful. "Bill, you're actually still alive. Where are you hiding? Is it the captain …"

"Don't trust the first mate. He lied to us."

The monotonous and cold tone repeated. It seemed to have some kind of deep meaning. The strange content of the words made Shakey even more concerned. He clenched his teeth and slowly approached Bill.

The half-brick figure quickly turned around, revealing a pale and cold face. In a startled glance, Shakey confirmed that the person in front of him was indeed Bill. However, it was difficult to see the stiff muscles on the person's face and the white dead fish eyes.

"Don't follow me!"

About seven or eight steps away, Bill suddenly turned around. His feet suddenly moved. The friction on the deck made a teeth-numbing sound as he plunged into the darkness.

As soon as Bill moved, Shakey immediately chased after him like a conditioned reflex. As for the warning "don't follow me", it was probably this warning that prompted him to follow without hesitation.

"That's why it's human nature to seek death."

At the captain's door, Yarlin, who was looking down at the deck from above, slowly closed his mouth and muttered. He withdrew his gaze. His calm face was replaced with a terrified expression. He reached out and knocked on the door.

The door was unlocked and opened with a push.

It was pitch black on the other side of the door. Yarlin was deep in thought. He squinted his eyes, trying to catch the slightest movement. He did not rush in. Instead, he stood at the door and called out softly, "Captain!"

After three consecutive calls, the oil lamp in the room lit up. Yarlin's heart trembled slightly. Via was sitting on a chair next to the oil lamp, fully clothed. His sword was placed beside his feet, held lightly in his left hand. He held a match in his right hand. The flame of the oil lamp shone on half of his face. His entire person was in the dark.

"What's the matter?" Via looked at the door.

Arlen lowered his head and said quickly, "The ship's doctor found something wrong with the corpses. It seems like there are some strange bugs in the corpses. The doctor suspects that it's not just the corpses. He suspects that there are bugs in the bodies of the other living pirates."

"Insects?" Via doubted that he had heard wrong.

"The ship's doctor is not very sure, so he asked the captain. He needs all the pirates to be checked, or there may be more corpses …" Yarlin's face was pale. He deliberately paused and calculated the time in his heart. At the same time, he imitated a disgusted and frightened person's expression. "I saw that the ship's doctor dissected the corpses."

Yarlin pretended to vomit. His voice trembled. "The ship's doctor said that time is tight. We must find the cause as soon as possible. Otherwise, I'm afraid that everyone will be infected with diseases."

Insects? Autopsy? Diseases?

Via tried to digest this incredible information. Just as he was about to go and see for himself, a muffled gunshot pierced through the night.

This gunshot was the sound of a flintlock gun, and the only one who owned this gun on the Via was old Mur. Via suddenly stood up, his sword on the ground, and his heel quickly followed.

Clang clang clang clang … The knocking sound and the footsteps were almost dense. Yarlin hurriedly moved aside, only to feel a black shadow passing by him. He looked behind him and only felt that Via's footsteps were very strange. It was as if the distance of each step was precisely measured, and the outline of his body undulating up and down was like a bat flying at low altitude.

On the other side.

Shaquille chased all the way to the door of old Mur's room and saw Bill just entering old Mur's room. He stopped and hesitated. Just as he hesitated, a gunshot came close.

The night was pierced, and the door opened. A faint smell of blood drifted into Shaquille's nostrils. Then, a figure staggered out from inside.

The figure staggered, one hand clutching his stomach and the other holding a flintlock gun. It was William.

"William, what happened inside?" Shaquille asked.

"Ah, it really hurts."

William's cheeks were twisted together because of the pain. The moment he saw Shaquille, he seemed to be relieved. Then, he threw his gun without hesitation.

Shaquille was still in shock. He subconsciously caught the flintlock gun and looked at William. William suddenly smiled strangely. "I was really afraid that you wouldn't appear. Fortunately, you came. Then, the person who killed old Mur would be you."

"What?" Shaquille realized that something was wrong, but it was too late.

William grabbed the wound on his stomach with all his strength. Blood flowed out from the gaps between his fingers. His voice changed because of the pain. "Shaquille, don't even think about running!"

Shaquille turned around and wanted to run. Hurried footsteps were approaching from behind. The sound of metal hitting the deck was Captain Via. His escape route was blocked. Shaquille's eyes were about to burst. He gritted his teeth and stared at William. He raised his gun and pulled the trigger.

"Bang!"

The gunshot rang out again. Sparks shone, but there was no sound of the gunshot piercing flesh. Shaquille looked at William staring at him as if he was looking at an idiot. Then, he clutched his stomach and fell down. He let out a crazy roar, threw away the flintlock gun, pulled out a short knife from his arms, and pounced at William.

It was only when he pounced at William that Shaquille saw the scene in the room from the corner of his eyes. The tables and chairs in the room were knocked over. A corpse was crawling on the ground. Blood spread out under the corpse.

There was no sign of Bill!!!

William's face was pale. He fell to the ground and didn't have time to stand up. He could only use all his strength to roll on the ground. He rolled into the room. There was a burning pain on his back. It was obvious that the short knife had still brushed past his back and left a bloody wound.

"Go to hell!"

Shaquille didn't think about where Bill was hiding. His chest was filled with anger. He raised his knife and was about to stab at William again. However, the cold "hiss" behind him made his scalp go numb. He stopped in his tracks unwillingly. He lost his balance and slipped. He fell and hit the wall.

He fell to the ground with his back against the ground. He raised the knife in front of his chest and saw a black light that was like a poisonous snake spitting out its tongue. It was about to devour him.
