Chapter 16

The neighbor's curses soon disappeared. He was dragged by the monster in the dark into the innermost bedroom of the Haunted House.
Han Fei's house had 2 bedrooms. The innermost bedroom was locked. His previous sleeping mission was in the other bedroom.
Han Fei would be lying if he said he was not afraid of a living person disappearing before his eyes. He was thankful that he had met such a helpful neighbor that day.
If the neighbor from the 6th floor did not come to visit, he would be the one dragged into the bedroom.
'Why would the monster drag him into that bedroom? What is hidden inside that room? ' Han Fei had not been to the locked bedroom but he had one strength, he could control his curiosity. He would not look at things that he was not supposed to see and he would not go to places that he was not supposed to go to.
The neighbor's screams faded away. Han Fei looked at the ring of keys in his hand. He started to think about the neighbor's legacy. 'After Brother Monster calms down, I should try to enter the bedroom. If I can find the neighbor's key, that would be great.'
After completing the New Player Mission, Han Fei could quit the game at any time so he was filled with confidence.
After cleaning the room, he sat at the living room door to check his character profile.
"Notification for Player 0000! You'll be rewarded with a free attribute point every time you level up. You can choose your profession after reaching level 10!
"Notification for Player 0000! You've completed the New Player Mission! You've gained 1 free skill point and obtained the mission reward — Landlord's Ring.
"Inventory function unlocked. Mission reward will be placed inside the inventory first."
Seeing the mission completion notification, Han Fei was slightly depressed. He had taken a huge risk to complete the mission but the reward did not seem like much.
Han Fei clicked open the inventory and took out the landlord's ring.
"Landlord's Ring (Grade G Blood Red Item): After the landlord's death, his beloved family used his ashes to craft a ring. Remembrance became the bridge between life and death. Once you put on this ring, you'll be able to sense their presence."
'Them?' Reading the item description, Han Fei got the gist of it. 'I'll be able to see ghosts if I put on this ring?'
Han Fei tried to put the ring on. The moment he put it on, he felt a chill coming from his finger.
The closer he got to the innermost bedroom, the stronger the chill.
"This ring can warn you. The scarier the ghost, the colder the ring will be."
"It doesn't look like much, but it's actually quite useful. As long as I wear this ring, I can avoid many dangerous areas."
Han Fei still had no idea what a Blood Red Item was. When he searched for information on Perfect Life, there was no mention of a Blood Red Item.
After studying the rewards, Han Fei looked at the Free Skill Points and Free Attribute Points that he had gained.
"I have a Free Skill Point now, but the problem is that the two skills I have are Cooking and Acting. These two skills have nothing to do with combat."
After giving it some thought, Han Fei used the skill point on acting. In this ghostly game, acting skills might come in handy, like when he was dealing with Wei Youfu earlier.
"Player 0000, your current acting level is Intermediate Level 2. When your acting reaches Intermediate Level 10, you will automatically upgrade to Advanced Acting."
"It's quite difficult to improve my skills, but the Beginner's Quest is only the most basic of quests, so it's normal for the rewards to be average."
Before gaining any new skills, Han Fei decided to improve his acting. After all, he wanted to hide his identity as a living person and blend in with the big family here as soon as possible.
As for the remaining attribute points, Han Fei added them to stamina without much thought. His stamina was only 4, which was too low. When he was trying to persuade his neighbour to stay earlier, the latter almost ran away.
After the increase in stamina, Han Fei swung his fists several times. He could feel that he had gained more strength and his movements became smoother. 'This is just a small increase. When I level up, I might really be able to outrun ghosts!'
After he could exit the game, Han Fei felt much more relaxed. Now he was ready to play the game.
Picking up the cleaver from the ground, Han Fei decided not to disturb the monster inside the room. He planned to go up to the 3rd floor to visit Meng Si.
'The old lady is not a bad person. If I can help her unravel the knot in her heart, she might accept me.'
Han Fei now had a deeper understanding of this game. Other Iyashikei games focused on healing the players but this game focused on healing the NPCs as well as the players. This was a rare game with a 'conscience'.
Opening the door, the moment Han Fei stepped out of the room, he felt a chill on his ring finger. Obviously, the corridor was not clean.
'I'll probably run into a ghost several times if I go out to pick up food.'
The chill on his finger was acceptable. Han Fei gripped the cleaver and entered the corridor carefully.
He lived on the 4th floor while the old lady lived on the 3rd floor. There was only one floor between them but Han Fei did not dare let his guard down.
The corridor was eerily silent. Strangely enough, the voice-activated lights on the 6th floor kept coming on even though there was no sound coming from the corridor.
Han Fei sneaked down the stairs. When he reached the middle of the 4th and 3rd floor, he stopped.
Squatting down, Han Fei glanced up through the gap in the banister. The voice-activated lights on the 6th floor were still coming on.
'Is there someone here or is there no one?'
Han Fei nudged his feet towards the 3rd floor. When he was about to reach the 3rd floor, the chill from the ring suddenly intensified.
'What's going on?'
Knowing that he could quit the game at any time, Han Fei did not retreat. He continued to move down the stairs and saw the door opposite Meng Si's house was open.
The cracked Eight Trigrams mirror was shattered to the ground and the talismans on the door were torn away.
'Meng Si hasn't opened the door because of this house?'
Han Fei gathered his courage and stopped before Meng Si's door. Before he knocked, a bone-chilling chill came from his ring finger!
He whipped his head around and saw a child running at him from the opposite room!
His nerves tensed. In the blink of an eye, the child ran from the innermost part of the house to the front door. Han Fei did not have time to react. He chose to quit the game immediately.
Blood covered the world. The nerve connection was severed. When Han Fei regained control of his body, he removed the gaming helmet.
