Chapter 13

Han Fei's brain reacted in less than a second. He had no time to think, his body started to move.
Time was of the essence. Han Fei arrived at the 4th floor first. Holding the ring of keys, he started to look for the key to the front door.
The footsteps behind him came closer and closer. To make matters worse, other than the footsteps, he could smell a thick stench of blood!
That's right, that sticky stench almost suffocated him.
'Faster! Faster! '
Han Fei's strict physical training helped him a lot. Even though he was panicking internally, his hands did not shake.
The moment he found the key, he inserted it into the lock.
Following the sound of the spring, Han Fei yanked open the front door and rushed in.
Han Fei slammed the door shut and clamped his hand over his mouth.
Through the door, he could hear the beast-like panting outside the door.
"What the f * ck is this?"
Han Fei forced himself to straighten up. He looked out the peephole but there was nothing in the empty corridor.
'The panting has disappeared but the smell of blood is still there!'
Han Fei could not open the door now. He kept adjusting his angle and finally caught a glimpse of a human face hiding under the door.
The man from the 6th floor was still there! He was hiding in the blind spot, guarding Han Fei's door!
If the old lady from the 3rd floor gave Han Fei the impression of kindness with a trace of eeriness, then the man on the 6th floor gave Han Fei the impression of madness, bloodthirst and cunning.
"My neighbors have a big problem!"
Han Fei took a step back. He wiped away the cold sweat on his forehead. 'This man is guarding the door, I can't leave at all. To exit the game, I have to complete a mission first. Am I supposed to do the New Player Mission in this room?'
To be honest, the seemingly simple New Player Mission had left a shadow in Han Fei's heart.
'I guess I'll have to wait for 3 hours.' Han Fei did not know how to describe his current situation. There was a murderer covered in the stench of blood blocking his door, the haunted house was haunted even at night, there were wolves in front of him and tigers behind him, it was hard to describe his current situation.
'I've been playing for so long but I'm still level 1. Perhaps after I level up, things will improve.'
Han Fei could only comfort himself that the game was compulsory.
Staring at the clock on the wall, Han Fei did not dare to enter the house. He switched on all the lights and stood next to the front door.
The smell of blood thickened in the corridor. Occasionally, there would be strange noises. The neighbour from the 6th floor was very patient but the way he 'greeted' was too much for Han Fei.
'When I completed the fuse change mission, the system reminded me that a good neighborly relationship is the first step to a perfect life. In other words, the game hopes that I can build a good relationship with my neighbors.
"If I want to live well, I need the friendship and help of my neighbors." Smelling the stench of blood in the air, Han Fei grimaced. "This is such a therapy game. I'm autistic and afraid of social interaction, so it gave me the treatment that I'll die if I don't make friends."
Time passed slowly, and in the blink of an eye, it was already three in the morning.
The 3 hour time limit had passed. He only needed to complete one more mission before he could leave the game.
The 'hospitable' neighbour was still there so Han Fei could not leave. After some consideration, he decided to attempt the New Player Mission.
'If the ghost comes after me again this time, I'll open the front door. If the 6th floor neighbour is accidentally killed by the ghost, then I'll figure out a way to take away his key. I'll live on his behalf. I can't let his sacrifice be in vain. '
That was the ideal scenario but in reality, Han Fei was more likely to be killed by his neighbour once he opened the door.
Opening the mission interface, Han Fei hesitated for a long time before he chose New Player Mission 2 — Watch Television.
When he was doing the sleeping mission, he already noticed the ghost in the bathroom. If he chose the bathing mission now, wouldn't he be asking for intimate contact with the ghost?
"Player 0000 has accepted Grade G New Player Mission — Watch Television!
"Mission Introduction: Ever since you moved here, you've lost count of the number of times you've suffered from insomnia. Unable to sleep, you decided to watch some television.
"Mission Requirement: Please switch off all the lights in the house and switch on the television. Watch any channel for 30 minutes. Do not take your eyes off the television for 30 minutes. "
This New Player Mission was not that difficult based on the introduction but Han Fei knew certain things could not be judged on the surface.
Unable to leave the room, Han Fei had no choice but to accept it.
He switched off all the lights in the house and switched on the television at 3.05 am.
The old-fashioned television box crackled. Probably due to the poor signal, most of the channels had no image, just a black and white background.
The New Player Mission had begun. Han Fei held the remote in his left hand and the cleaver in his right. He sat upright on the sofa and stared at the television screen.
'It's fine, I just need to hold on for 30 minutes.'
Han Fei kept changing the channels. When he reached channel 44, the television finally came back to life.
The light was dim and the image on the screen was blurry. It looked like an animated film but Han Fei had not seen anything like it before because the animation style was too weird.
'Is this the Underworld Theater?'
Han Fei leaned forward. He tried to raise the volume of the television when he heard footsteps approaching.
The sound that gradually became clearer did not come from the TV, but from the bedroom.
Someone was moving in the room!
The footsteps got closer and closer. The person walked out from the bedroom and headed straight for him.
'Is it that ghost?'
"Could it be holding a knife?"
Han Fei did not dare to move. The footsteps disappeared behind the sofa.
At 3 am, Han Fei was watching television at home. Footsteps came from the dark room and then disappeared behind him.
'Has it left? Or has it been standing behind me all this time? '
Han Fei's Adam's apple trembled. He resisted the urge to turn around. His eyes were glued to the television.
The animation on the screen was silent. In the animation, the person appeared to be hiding from something. Whenever it stopped, a pair of invisible hands would grab it and drag it back.
Han Fei had no idea what the animation was trying to convey. When the person was grabbed for the third time, Han Fei felt a weight on his left shoulder like something had landed on him.
He did not turn around but glanced at his left shoulder out of the corner of his eye. He saw a pale white arm.
His heart started to race uncontrollably. Han Fei gritted his teeth and forced himself to focus on the television. But when he moved his eyes away, he saw something even scarier.
A pair of legs appeared behind the TV cabinet where the square box TV was placed.
