Chapter 950

Report

Lingling arrived not long after.

Bobby quickly rose to his feet when he saw a little girl coming in, "Little girl, don't come in here, you'll be scared to death!"

Lingling still went in. Her eyes, which were emitting a wise look that did not match her age, stared at the bloody scene.

She moved closer and used her fingers to stir the viscous blood in the basin. Then, she lifted Norke's face and carefully examined it.

Bobby was dumbfounded. He stared at Lingling in astonishment. It took him quite some time to collect his thoughts.

"Don't alert the police or the Magic Association yet. We won't be able to find the information we need if they come," Lingling said.

"I've isolated this place with the Space Element, so the smell won't spread out," Mo Fan said.

"What's this?" Lingling asked curiously, pointing at the strange-looking stuff on the edge of the basin.

"I don't know, it looks like dandruff," Mo Fan said.

Lingling carefully put the dandruff on the edge of the basin into a vacuum bag. She planned to bring it back for research.

"Call a skilled technician here to dissect his body," Lingling said.

"Dissect … dissect?" Bobby immediately objected.

The man was his brother. How could they dissect him? They had to bury him properly!

"If you think giving him a proper burial is more meaningful than finding out the real cause of his death and finding the culprit, you should call the people of the Magic Association over now. Those idiots will only tell you that we're cremating him as a precaution," Lingling said righteously.

Bobby did not expect a little girl to say something like that. He stared at Lingling with a blank face.

"If you want to know what the thing that killed your brother and brother is, just like us, just do as she says," Mo Fan said in a serious tone, patting Bobby on the shoulder.

Bobby wasn't an emotional person. He nodded and left his brother to Lingling to deal with.

Lingling and the old technician were dissecting the body. Mo Fan and Bobby were sitting in the yard, each holding a bottle of iced dark beer. They would take a sip from it from time to time. It did not look like they had just gotten into a fight during the day.

"How did your brother deal with it? Did he burn it?" Mo Fan asked.

"Mm, he burned it on the same day. An old herbalist from the Magic Association said it might be a contagious disease, so they had to burn it immediately. Even though I tried to stop them, they still carried out the order, "Bobby said.

"When did your little brother Norco become … become …"

"Lose his mind?"

"Yeah, when did you notice he was losing his mind?" Mo Fan asked.

"Around a week ago, Norco was in a bad mood. I thought he only became like that because he found out about his brother," Bobby said.

"Were there any other abnormal symptoms before this?"

"I don't think so … it's very normal, if having a better appetite counts," Bobby said.

"A better appetite?"

Mo Fan vaguely recalled the families of the victims he had visited. Some of them had mentioned something similar.

"My Ruby used to be a picky eater, but he was fine recently. He loved eating everything. I thought his body would become stronger, and his weakness would go away, too, but he died all of a sudden …"

Mo Fan remembered the mother of one of the victims saying the same thing!

"Xuexue, pay a visit to the families we visited before and ask the victims about their appetite before they died," Mo Fan said to Mu Ningxue.

Mu Ningxue nodded and immediately went to work.

Mu Ningxue was fairly quick with her Wind Element. She soon returned to the residence.

Mo Fan already knew the answer from the expression on Mu Ningxue's face.

"Everyone's appetite has increased tremendously. It's at least twice the normal amount, no exception," Mu Ningxue said in a serious tone.

"The police and Hunters wouldn't ask about the details, nor would they think there's anything wrong with it, but it might be related to this." Mo Fan opened up Lingling's database and searched for the question about the appetite of death.

Although not all the death records of the victims of the Drowning Curse had anything to do with the amount of food they ate, they did find some unintentional records of food intake in between the lines!

"Appetite? What does it have to do with the Curse?" Bobby asked with a confused look.

"An increase in appetite isn't necessarily a good thing, especially since none of the victims' sizes changed because of the increase in appetite," Mo Fan said.

While they were talking about food, Lingling had already walked out of the room.

Her eyes glittered when she saw the three people sitting in the courtyard.

"I found something," Lingling said.

"Us too."

Mo Fan then told Lingling about how the victim's appetite had increased significantly before she died.

Lingling pondered for a moment before revealing her findings, "Norke's body is extremely weak, like a person who hasn't eaten for more than ten days. The only reason he looks normal when he was alive is because his body is swollen due to excessive water intake."

"How … how is that possible?" Bobby screamed.

Norke clearly ate a lot of food, yet his body was like an empty shell filled with water. It didn't make sense at all!

"This is getting more and more troublesome," Mo Fan smiled wryly.

There was no way to explain it.

His body was starving after eating a lot … no matter how fast a person's digestive system was, it didn't make sense!

"I think we've found some clues," Lingling said.

As she spoke, Lingling ran into the house and carried away the basin filled with blood.

Mu Ningxue and Mo Fan were confused. What was she going to do with the basin of blood?

Lingling found a filter and asked Mo Fan to hold it for her.

Mo Fan followed her instructions and held the filter. Lingling poured the basin of blood onto the filter.

Viscous blood flowed down through the gaps in the filter. Bobby, who was watching from the side, had an indescribably complicated feeling. Wasn't this little girl a little too valiant? Even he, a mage, was scared to death at the sight of this bloody scene, but this little girl seemed to be completely fine.

The blood continued to pour out. Mo Fan was confused and was about to ask when he suddenly saw something wriggling on the filter.

It looked like a blood clot, but it was quite soft. It felt like it could squeeze through the filter with a little force.

"What's that?" Mo Fan asked, pointing at the wriggling blood clot.

"Don't touch it, it's very fragile. It will die as soon as it leaves the liquid," Lingling said.

Mo Fan immediately withdrew his finger. Mu Ningxue and Bobby came closer to take a closer look. They had no idea what it was.

"Go get me some water," Lingling said.

Ling Ling took some water and poured it on the squirming blood clot, washing it clean.

Strangely, as the viscous blood flowed down, the wriggling blood clot seemed to melt and actually disappeared in the filter net.

"Why isn't it gone?" Mo Fan asked curiously.

"It's still there, take a closer look," Lingling said.

Mo Fan lowered his head and took a closer look. He finally saw a transparent maggot at the spot where the filter was previously!

The creature's body was as soft as a jellyfish, but it was even more transparent. It was almost invisible to the naked eye. Its shape was similar to a maggot, and it was slightly bigger than a thumb.

"I've never seen anything like it," Mu Ningxue said.

Mu Ningxue was well-read, but it was her first time seeing a creature like it. Most importantly, why would it appear in the blood? Did that mean every person that died to the Drowning Curse had the same transparent maggot in their blood?

"It's normal that you've never seen it before. It's still in its larval form. It will only grow into its true form when it's in the ocean with enough water," Lingling said.

"What true form?"

"It's hard to say. The scariest thing about the Jellyfish Evil Maggot is that it's like an embryo that can be molded at will when it's still in its larval form. Basically, it can grow into anything it's attached to," Lingling said.

"So you're saying that this thing can grow into any creature? For example, it can grow into a Scarlet Demon if it stumbles into a Scarlet Demon, and turn into a Sea Monster if it catches a Sea Monster? "Mo Fan exclaimed.

"Something like that. It's my first time seeing a living Jellyfish Evil Maggot. I can finally do some research on it tonight!" Lingling said. Her eyes were glittering with excitement.

"So what's with the Drowning Curse?" Mu Ningxue asked.

"Didn't I already tell you? This Jellyfish Evil Maggot can grow into any creature, including humans," Lingling said.

Mo Fan and Mu Ningxue were dumbfounded. Wasn't Lingling's conclusion a little too terrifying?

Bobby blurted out furiously, "What … what nonsense are you talking about? Don't tell me my brother and brother were transformed from these strange maggots!? Impossible, that's impossible! "

"It's just a speculation. I'll have to do some research first," Lingling said.

"Isn't that a little too much? Surely the victims of the Drowning Curse aren't all these maggots? How can a transparent worm like this turn into a human, talk and move like a human?" Mo Fan felt like Lingling's train of thought was too far-fetched.

As a matter of fact, Mo Fan was struggling to accept it, too!

"Speaking of which, I've only been here for a short while, but I heard that a giant skeleton appeared on the beach?" Lingling asked.

"Mm, something like that did happen," Mo Fan said.

"Let's hope it's not these things' doing. Otherwise, this city is going to be in big trouble," Lingling said in a deep voice.
