This was a f * cking 'A +' difficulty world!! This damned mutated Arachnidacrab's vitality was so frail, that could only mean one thing!
Its offensive prowess, or perhaps its quantity, could possibly be so terrifying that the enemy would be unable to withstand it!
At this moment, Sheyan suddenly recalled Mogensha who was previously trapped in the silk cocoon.
"My previous conjecture, seems like it was completely wrong!! I originally thought AK was captured by the Ndipaya barbarians, and was tortured to such an extent...... from the looks of it now, it seems like the order has been reversed. Dammit, AK could've possibly escaped, but was bitten by one of these abominations and directly turned into such a state, before being captured by the Ndipaya barbarians! "
"The crux of the problem is, why did AK encounter those abominations outside, while we didn't? Oh, there's another possibility. The underground passageway we passed through, seemed like it was specially reserved for those abominations. The Ndipaya barbarians outside could've possibly expended an astronomical price to collect their venom, and smear it on their spears to injure others. Furthermore, that venom was their ultimate trump card.... "
Yet while Sheyan's mind was anxiously churning with various thoughts, incessant 'kacha' sounds shockingly resounded from the wooden walls; as though an incomparably sharp object was slicing inwards. Within a short span of seconds, wood shavings and dust splattered everywhere. That solid wooden wall was actually pierced through, as at least 5-6 gigantic mutated Arachnidacrab darted in, with a long silver thread attached to its back.
Evidently, the death of their comrade had served as a lesson to them. These abominations weren't in a rush to attack, but instead started weaving webs. The spider silk secreted by those abominations was exceedingly sticky and tough. It would be extremely difficult to remove it from one's body, and even those with weak resistance would be poisoned.
One of Reef's slaves swept his spear horizontally, sending a mutated Arachnidacrab flying! Instead, another mutated Arachnidacrab pounced stealthily onto his chest. After being bitten, the slave released a miserable shriek, but his voice instantly turned mute. His entire being seemed to have been frozen in time, as he stiffened to the spot.
Reef roared furiously! Witnessing his slave suffering a grievous injury, he immediately dashed forward in an attempt to rescue him. Unfortunately, water from afar could not put out a fire nearby. Several strands of spider silk wrapped around his ankles almost caused him to tumble down.
When he crawled up, he just happened to see the slave's eyes turn white, frozen in place, while the mutated Spider Crab was forcefully biting and sucking on the slave's flesh. Although the bitten slave couldn't make a sound and his body was stiff, the pain caused the muscles on his face to twitch! So much so that the skin at the corners of his eyes cracked and blood flowed out!
Witnessing this scene, Reef hurriedly flipped his shield and viciously slammed it towards the mutated Arachnidacrab! He already knew that this thing was quite agile. If he used a sword, he might not be able to cut it. In that case, using a shield to perform an AOE attack would have a much higher chance of hitting.
This hungry mutated arachnidacrab could feel its life being threatened, its 4 pairs of long legs frantically crawled, wanting to swiftly flee. Unfortunately, when it pounced forward, it was afraid that its bite was too shallow and its venomous fangs had already sunk deep into its prey's taut muscles. How could it leave in such a hurry?
Upon witnessing this strike, Mbenga immediately cried out in panic.
"Don't, don't hit it!"
Regrettably, a Growth-hunter's reflexes were several times stronger than an ordinary person's. Reef's shield had already moved according to his will, as he viciously slammed it down. At this moment, Brother Black Mbenga finally shouted the word 'hit'!
The mutated Arachnidacrab was actually a very strange creature. Although it possessed the characteristics of a spider and a crab, its genes were more inclined towards a spider. The way they ate was similar to humans. They could chew solid food to fill their stomachs. They could also inject digestive enzymes and venom into their prey's body to slowly digest the enemy's flesh and bones, leaving only the skin and turning it into a "canned drink" for them to slowly suck.
Between these two feeding methods, the mutated Arachnidacrab preferred the latter. Because sucking was easier than chewing, and liquid food was easier to digest ….. this also signified that if one didn't retaliate after being bitten, although one would suffer unbearable agony, one could still live for a long period of time. After all, only its venom was formidable, but its digestive enzymes required a long time to take effect.
Hence, when Reef slammed down with his shield, the outcome was no different from squeezing a syringe filled with venom into the slave's body! The slave instantly opened his mouth wide, as he released an incomparably mournful and indiscernible scream. Both his eyeballs exploded with a pop! Two streams of glaring blood flowed out! Then, his body inflated like a balloon, before slumping to the ground, dead.
Of course, the mutated Arachnidacrab that was crawling on his chest also died tragically. Its HP and defence weren't high to begin with, and it still had to lower its defence while feeding. Of course, it couldn't withstand Reef's gentle slap! Sheyan finally understood this plaything; it was similar to a human bomb in the present world. Eliminating it was simple, and after it latched onto you, killing you would be rather convenient.
Before that mutated Arachnidacrab died, it secreted massive amounts of hormones and body fluids, filling the air with a pungent hydrochloric acid stench. After witnessing the tragic death of its comrade, it was stimulated by the digestive enzymes secreted by the mutated Arachnidacrab. The entire mutated Arachnidacrab horde went berserk. It wasn't driven by the thirst for vengeance, they probably didn't understand the meaning of the word 'vengeance'. Instead, it was because of the most simple desire – appetite. The originally dark brown carapace of the spider gradually turned red, its originally large body swelled to the size of a washbasin, and its speed became even faster! Swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh!
There was a faint smell of bitter almonds in the air. The mutated Arachnidacrab's third weapon – poison gas – was unleashed. At the joint of each of their furry legs, there was a poison gland that worked like a sprayer. When they sensed danger, the "sprayer" began to disperse a poisonous mist that could act on the nervous centers of living creatures into the air. It would cause their movements to become sluggish, producing hallucinations etc.
Sheyan slashed out with his saber, viciously chopping down a mutated Arachnidacrab from mid-air. The washbasin sized Arachnidacrab emitted a crisp cracking sound, as green juices splattered everywhere. Instead, the scorpion tail behind its body continued its final struggle, as it pierced against the surface of the '+ 7 West' saber, causing a tiny dent to appear on the surface of the saber! Its might was indeed comparable to an 'A +' difficulty creature.
Nevertheless, although Sheyan had slain a mutated Arachnidacrab, he wasn't an expert in dodging. With a slight delay, he felt a sharp pain on his back, as another Arachnidacrab pounced over, before violently injecting its venom and digestive enzymes into his back!
Sheyan's nerves instantly transmitted a dizzying pain. He believed that if not for his innate ability 'Stronghold', as well as the high virus resistance he had built up in the Ndipaya Marshland, he would've definitely fainted like Brother Black. At present, when he checked the chat log, he shockingly discovered that the mutated Arachnidacrab dealt continuous damage every 3 seconds. A single attack could actually deal as much as 300 points of damage, and would only stop when the Arachnidacrab entered near-death state, or when it dealt a cumulative 1500 points of damage.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" Amidst the intense pain, Sheyan pulled out 'Ambition'. Pressing against his back, he tilted the muzzle and aimed at the greedy Arachnidacrab, before pulling the trigger! Instantly, its green juices splattered everywhere! Splintering into pieces, the Arachnidacrab's two venomous fangs pierced deeply into his flesh.
Having just made a wrong decision, Reef instantly released a furious roar! 'Shattering Cardiac Roar' activated! Logically speaking, such an area of effect attack should be the best way to deal with these bizarre high speed and low HP venomous bugs.
Instead, the most detestable thing happened. The greatest flaw of Reef's' Shattering Cardiac Roar 'ability was revealed – it didn't have any precedence, and was tragically suppressed by the difficulty of this world. All the mutated Arachnidacrab were actually immune to this effect. The reason for this notification was because they didn't have ears, and their bizarre body structure rendered the resonance of the 'Shattering Cardiac Roar' ineffective.
Although this roar didn't cause any substantial damage to the mutated Arachnidacrab, it caused them to feel an additional threat and provocation. This was similar to waving a pair of scissors in front of a man's crotch. Almost at the same time, those mutated Arachnidacrabs all changed their targets in an instant! Simultaneously, they pounced towards Reef who was in a defensive stance with his shield raised!
Almost in a flash, 'Da Da Da' sounds resounded consecutively. Reef was instantly surrounded by the mutated Arachnidacrab. Although his dark-gold shield wasn't small, it ultimately couldn't be compared to a tower shield. Furthermore, even if it was a tower shield, it could at most cover a 180 degree blind spot. His back was still a huge gap!
Although that sun-like dark-gold shield managed to block 3-4 of the mutated Arachnidacrab's pouncing attacks, at least 4 of the mutated Arachnidacrab instantly pounced onto Reef; their razor-sharp venomous fangs piercing deeply into his body! One could clearly see the veins on Reef's forehead swelling up abruptly, the excruciating pain causing his eyes to turn scarlet red! (To be continued.
