Mogensha pondered over Sheyan's words, and felt that it was reasonable. He nodded and continued advancing. Actually, one couldn't blame him. Sheyan's skin was so thick that he dared to charge in and out of the arachnid sea. Mogensha didn't dare to be careless, naturally he had to consider everything carefully.
After walking for less than 50 metres, Mogensha arrived at a patch of sand by the side. Over there, there was an obvious brown patch. He parted the sand to examine the depth of the brown patch, before shrugging his shoulders and replying.
"Another one died, his corpse must have been eaten. May God bless his soul."
Mogensha nodded and continued forward. Along the way, Mogensha could always find the places where the fleeing party members had perished. Obviously, those party members had willingly stayed behind to snipe the arachnids, but ultimately, they were dismembered and eaten alive by the fearless arachnids. After walking for another kilometer or so, the view before them widened. In the vast Gobi Desert ahead of them, there was a deep ravine that they couldn't see the end of! This ravine was at least a hundred metres wide, appearing dark, gloomy and terrifying. Grotesque craggy rocks littered the interior, but where the sunlight couldn't reach, there should be moss and other plants growing.
Mogensha gazed at the ravine, as he worriedly said.
"The arachnids possess an extremely sensitive sense of smell. If those escaping brats think they can shake them off by relying on this complex terrain, then they are gravely mistaken."
Sheyan suddenly frowned.
"What's that smell? Is it the smell of rotting meat? "
Mogensha's nose twitched.
"It's the direction of the ravine. Strange, the arachnids don't waste food!"
Sheyan strode towards the ravine, the sky was already bright. He hurried to the edge of the ravine, and couldn't help but cover his nose. His pupils contracted. At the bottom of the ravine 3-4 kilometres away from them, an incomparably tragic massacre had shockingly occurred!
Yet the targets of this massacre weren't humans, but at least a few hundred arachnids! Their corpses had probably been piled up here for over 24 hours, naturally rotting under the high temperature of the desert. Once the sun rose, they would probably rot even faster.
Mogensha's eyes leaked out an astonished expression. He suddenly pointed to a hydralisk whose head was ripped off and shouted.
"Oh! Oh god, it was another group of insectoids that ambushed this insectoid troop! It's impossible for a human weapon to cause such a wound! "
Sheyan ignored the stench of decay. He could already picture the scene two and a half days ago. A group of blood-soaked warriors desperately fleeing for their lives discovered the Great Rift Valley in despair. They rushed down recklessly, with a swarm of greedy and crazy bugs in hot pursuit. At this time, another group of hostile insectoids had their eyes on them. This insectoid group cleverly launched a surprise attack from behind. First, they slaughtered the lagging hydralisks, then they surrounded and annihilated the zerglings …..
In this instance, Sheyan suddenly recalled the place where he encountered the beginner tier legendary creature 'Scorching Mouth'. That place was similarly a battlefield where arachnids were slaughtering each other! It seemed that the insectoids were similar to humans in that they had many factions. Moreover, the conflicts between humans could be resolved through negotiations, but the conflicts between insectoids could only be resolved through acid, claws, and bites.
"AK, can you still find the escape route of those survivors?" Sheyan suddenly asked.
Mogensha hesitated a little before replying. "Shouldn't be a problem." He then put on his helmet to block out the stench. He then stood at the edge of the Great Rift Valley and gazed down. Naturally, from the edge of the Great Rift Valley to the bottom of the Great Rift Valley was 20-30 metres high. Without any buffer, one would instantly perish without waiting for the arachnids to arrive. Sweeping a glance, Mogensha identified the slope that the survivors had used to escape. Moreover, they had blasted apart several boulders that could be used as a buffer, causing the pursuing arachnids to directly leap down. The traces they left behind were scattered, and the arachnid's pursuit formation was utterly destroyed.
The two traversed through the stinking battlefield. Amongst the arachnid corpses, they discovered black arachnids. However, their casualties were minimal, obviously they were part of the ambushers. Then they saw the place where the survivors had halted their footsteps and started fighting. That was a narrow region within the Great Rift Valley, easy to defend but hard to attack. The arachnids couldn't spread out easily here, but the humans could utilize their long range firepower to cover the entire area.
Mogensha observed the scorch marks on the boulder and the arachnid corpses.
"They should also have Arsonists. Look, my position is pretty good. If there is a Arsonist hiding behind a rock, the hydralisk's spit wouldn't be able to hit him. He would have to go around this corner, but at the same time, the hydralisks would be suppressed by the concentrated firepower from the front." Sheyan nodded his head.
The two continued forward, and arrived at this temporary base. Scattered here were needles (for injecting stimulants), bullet shells, blood stained bandages, and even opened military ration cans. It looked extremely messy. But this was actually a dead end! Boulders tumbled down from above, completely cutting off their escape route!
Sheyan and Mogensha glanced at each other, revealing a joyous expression! This was because there were only very few bloodstains in this temporary base. Furthermore, there weren't any shattered pieces of armor! What did this signify? This signified that this group of survivors had survived! Even if one used their toes to think, one would be able to understand the situation. Because the long range hydralisks had been massacred by the arachnids, they only needed to rely on the ferocious zerglings to display their might. Thus, they were able to survive.
Following that, the survivors naturally had to face the ambushing arachnids. At present, Mogensha had also discovered several arachnid corpses. These arachnids had sharp black barbs growing out of their bodies, and were covered in black scales. It seemed like they belonged to the same tribe as the black arachnids they had previously encountered, but their opponents were different.
For some unknown reason, this group of black arachnids didn't slaughter the survivors, or perhaps they didn't slaughter them on the spot. If not, even if there weren't any corpses in this temporary base, the splattering of blood would be unavoidable.
"What's this?" Sheyan suddenly pointed to a faint green stain on a boulder. At present, the sun had yet to rise, and the rift valley was still rather dark. This stain faintly emitted a fluorescent glow in the darkness, and was easily discovered.
Mogensha very cautiously observed for a while, then asked for a strand of hair from Sheyan to dip in it (because his bald head had no hair to pluck). After ascertaining that it wasn't poisonous, he extended his hand to touch it. When he retracted his finger, he instantly pulled out a long and viscous faint green sticky thread.
"It seems rather viscous?"
Sheyan frowned. Following that, he discovered several faint green specks on the surrounding boulders, sparkling with light. Their information didn't contain the existence of such things. Following that, Mogensha effortlessly located the retreating direction of the black arachnids. However, he was slightly worried; the arachnid's core organism, the Overmind, had a vile precedent of sucking human brains to obtain memories. If these black arachnids had such a habit, then undoubtedly these survivors would be better off being gnawed to death.
Fortunately, along the way, Sheyan and Mogensha discovered some scattered Camel brand cigarette butts. Not only were the survivors not killed, they seemed to have received a considerable degree of preferential treatment. The arachnids obviously weren't a race that was adept at concealing their thoughts and actions. Hence, even the pessimistic Mogensha had to admit, the probability of these survivors surviving was very high.
After traversing through this grand canyon for an entire 2 hours, the two finally reached the surface through a narrow ramp. If not for Mogensha's exceptional tracking ability, he would've lost them long ago. Just as they stepped onto the desert, Sheyan abruptly felt an indescribable peculiar sensation assaulting him from behind. He immediately leapt forward, before turning around to block!
Behind him, roughly 50 metres in the air, floated an exceedingly peculiar creature. From afar, this creature looked like a strange pear. It had brown skin, 4 long legs and 2 spider stinger-like antennae. Furthermore, its 4 long legs were connected by a wide membrane. Following the movement of its long legs, the membrane would rapidly generate a propelling force like a blower, allowing this creature to easily float in the air.
Just as Sheyan caught sight of this creature, its 4 long legs suddenly glowed with a faint green fluorescence, before swiftly converging towards its two antennae. Instantly, it sprayed out a glob of fluorescent green mucus towards Sheyan and Mogensha.
Without a doubt, this' mucus' wasn't something that welcomed them. No matter if it was Sheyan or Mogensha, they both simultaneously dodged in different directions. The speed of that 'mucus' wasn't considered fast, hence they had absolute confidence in evading it.
Yet at this moment, their eyes widened. That glob of green mucus actually split into 2, 2 into 4, 4 into 8 ….. between the gaps, there were even green mucus threads linking together. When it reached the skies above Sheyan and Mogensha, it shockingly formed into a faint green fluorescent gigantic spider web! It blotted out the sky and enveloped the earth! (To be continued.
