Selina took out her phone and called the forensics team.
Luke stepped forward on his own. He didn't board the boat, but simply checked it.
"There's no obvious blood on the boat, but look here." He gestured at Selina, who had just finished the call.
Selina looked at the hull of the boat, which had a huge dent on the side of the bow.
"Did something hit the boat hard?" she asked.
Luke nodded. "There's no blood on the boat, and there's no obvious evidence. It's very unlikely that there was a fight. Let's wait. It'll take the forensics department an hour to get here. "
Selina looked at the sky, then at her watch. "Oh no, our seafood lunch."
Luke remembered that, and said helplessly, "We can only cancel our lunch reservation."
Selina could only nod and call the restaurant.
Luke said hello and ran back to Swick's villa, before he parked his car not far away from the boat.
When the car arrived, he said with a smile, "Although there's no seafood lunch, we can still sunbathe. Also, do you want this? "
As he spoke, he took out a can from the fridge in the car and tossed it over.
Selina took it, opened it, and took a sip. She burped in satisfaction. "Darling, you're so wise."
Luke smiled but didn't say anything.
They took out folding chairs, umbrellas, and towels from the trunk of the car, and set them up on a flat rock nearby.
Selina slipped into her car and changed into a bikini. She took out a food box with her other hand and ran back to lie down. Only then did she heave a sigh of relief. "Ah, it's not bad to take a break from work."
Luke opened the food box and took out a piece of braised beef. "Killing two birds with one stone. Otherwise, waiting here would've been pointless."
That was the helplessness of a detective's job.
Since they had discovered the boat, they couldn't just leave. They had to wait for the forensics team to take over.
If they were in the city, they could still find a place to rest before the forensics team arrived.
But in the wilderness, they could only rely on themselves and find a way to get through the difficulties.
Thankfully, Luke and Selina were prepared, and didn't lack food and water in the car.
Although it wasn't as exaggerated as a field trip, it was still a little more comfortable while they waited.
Selina closed her eyes and basked in the sun. She listened to the study materials with her earphones plugged in.
Luke had organized a lot of professional knowledge for her, covering everything from combat to survival, from the city to the wilderness.
Now that she had nothing to do, she just listened to it as if she was listening to the radio. It was more comfortable than simply reading the text.
Luke wasn't much of a sunbather. After applying sunscreen on Selina's back, he read the files on his own.
However, the information he read was not so serious. It was basically related to the underworld forces in Los Angeles.
Recently, he had purposely controlled the frequency of his clean-up operations. He would do one every five to seven days to avoid being too "hardworking" and having an obvious impact on his mood.
Even so, in the past month or so, Luke had cleaned up almost ten gang nests.
For all the gangs in Los Angeles, this number was only a fraction of the total, but it did not stop him from killing the backbone of the gangs. The middle-level gang members that he had killed all controlled dozens or even hundreds of bottom-level members.
After he killed these middle-level gangsters, hundreds of low-level gangsters lost their leaders.
Suddenly losing their direct superiors, these gangsters became restless.
Some wanted to take over their boss's position, some wanted to join other forces, and some wanted to fish in troubled waters for some benefits.
Thus, the gangs in Los Angeles had been a little restless recently.
Luke was already considering whether or not he should clean up the hooligans who were happy at the bottom of the hierarchy again.
Compared with the core gangsters who had died, these low-level gangsters were a little more unbridled, because most of them had never been taught a lesson by cruel reality. They thought that they were the boss of the world when they had the chance, and wanted to do something big.
Luke thought that if another thirty or fifty people died, the rest of them would be able to understand the situation.
After the brainless gangsters died, the sensible ones would naturally step forward.
As for bringing more crime to Los Angeles, Luke didn't think that was the case.
Organized crime was more dangerous.
Many gangs were involved in large-scale, continuous operations, such as trafficking in women, human beings, or even organs, or smuggling firearms and illegal drugs.
The most gangsters could do was rob and injure people on the streets, but they weren't as efficient as gangs.
As he thought that, he put a red tick next to some of the names in his notebook.
If everything went according to plan, these names would turn into a red x after a while.
Suddenly, there was the sound of an engine in the distance.
Luke turned his head, only to see a ragged pickup drive past the wasteland not far away and go even further away.
He was lost for words. Someone was out in the middle of nowhere for an outing like them?
After a while, the forensics department finally arrived.
Seeing Selina, who simply waved at them and continued to bask in the sun, the two forensic scientists were envious. "Wow, you're so smart. You actually prepared these things in advance."
Nobody would pretend to be serious and talk about what to do during working hours. Everybody was usually very boring at work, and only idiots would talk when they were faced with corpses and blood every day and beautiful women.
Luke chuckled and pointed at the boat. "If you want to enjoy yourself after you're done with your work, I can lend you two yoga mats and sunscreen. Of course, you'll have to bring your own clothes and towels. "
The two forensic scientists were both Caucasian men no more than thirty years old, and they were quite lively.
They looked at each other and smiled bitterly. "We don't have time to sunbathe. We have a lot of analysis and reports to do when we get back. "
Luke shrugged. "There's nothing I can do. I'm not the manager of the forensics department. I can't approve leave."
The three of them joked for a while before they got to work.
The forensic scientists didn't have a lot of work to do.
There weren't many marks on the boat. Apart from the dent in the boat and the dried blood, there wasn't much else that was suspicious.
When the forensic scientists were almost done and were about to leave, the shabby pickup that they had driven past earlier returned.
Standing on the reef, Luke glanced at it casually, only to see that the pickup was dragging a boat behind it this time.
He was stumped.
The boat was exactly the same as the one they had examined. It had a white background with green edges, and the name of the restaurant was on it — Greer.
