Henry said, "Maybe we should call the police. Wow, there's no signal here. What a great place for a birthday party. "
Everybody: "…"
Henry: "It looks like something threw them in from outside at high speed."
Everyone turned their heads to look at the broken window and saw a pile of metal buckets.
A moment later, everybody left, leaving Henry, who had sprained his ankle, to rest on a high stool.
After everybody left, he turned around and looked at the unlucky guy who had died. "Are you familiar with this place? How does the barbecue taste? … "
They went to the pile of metal barrels not far from the hole in the window and found that there were bones and food residue at the bottom of one of the barrels facing the hole. There was also a faint burnt smell, the same as the smell of the man and the raccoon inside. They looked at the can next to it and saw the label: ethylene.
Nick looked around and picked up a small box from under his feet. "Matches! It seems that someone's crazy here. "
Everybody could picture a man smiling hideously at the raccoon eating at the bottom of the bucket, lighting a match and throwing it in.
Suddenly, Luke's expression changed. He told everybody to be quiet and quickly returned to the shop.
Inside, Henry was still chatting with the body, and didn't stop until he saw Luke.
Luke stood behind him and gestured for Henry to keep quiet.
Not long after, a man suddenly walked out with a gun and looked at Henry with a surprised face.
In the next moment, Luke grabbed the man's shotgun with one hand and pressed the man against the wall with the other.
He was ten times stronger than a regular person now, and could subdue an ordinary person with one hand.
"Who are you?" he asked.
The man asked, "Who are you? Why did you break into the shop? "
Nick asked, "Are you the owner?"
The man said, "… No. I'm just a clerk. "
Nick asked, "What's your name?"
The man said, "Slick."
Nick asked, "Where were you just now? What were you doing? "
Slick said, "I was looking for something in an underground warehouse."
Both Luke and Nick looked at the bag that the man was carrying, which contained several bottles of alcohol.
They looked at each other, and Luke let go of Slick, freeing him.
This person was only dangerous because of his gun. Now that he had lost his gun, he was no longer a threat.
When Slick saw the body sitting there, he exclaimed, "Gomez, what happened to you? Ah, you guys killed Gomez? "
"Sir, we can explain the cause of his death. This deceased is called Gomez, right? We found food scraps and ethylene gas in a metal bucket outside, as well as matches. Obviously, Mr. Gomez set up a trap, and he wanted to ignite the ethylene to burn the raccoon to death, "Greg explained.
Seeing that Slick was obviously listening, Greg continued, "But he didn't notice that the ethylene gathered at the bottom of the barrel, and the match couldn't be ignited. He stood at the mouth of the barrel and fired at the raccoon inside. Then … he and the raccoon were blown away. "
After a brief silence, Slick nodded and said, "That's right. Gomez likes to argue with raccoons. Those damn rodents are thieves. They always sneak in to steal food and make trouble in your house. "
Hodges raised a hand. "Sorry to interrupt. Raccoons aren't actually rodents. They belong to the genus Raccoon, which is part of the order Carnivora. Rats are rodents. "
Everybody: "…"
Slick stared at Hodges for a moment and suddenly gave him a thumbs-up. "I can tell that you're an educated man."
Everybody was lost for words, as if they were the least educated.
Luke and Selina thought to themselves, "We have high school diplomas, alright? We had biology classes in high school too. "
After that, everybody finally relaxed and began to question Slick, who claimed to be a shop assistant.
They mainly asked where they could find a phone and a car in the restaurant.
In the end, the restaurant had already closed down, and the phone line had been cut off because it hadn't been paid.
Slick simply said that there was a radio in the storeroom below, and that they could try it.
Then, Nick and Greg followed Slick to the radio station, while Luke and Selina rested in the restaurant.
Luke, however, had a weird expression on his face. He looked at the grill in the restaurant and the ashes in it for a moment, before he moved his eyes away.
In the storeroom, Nick and Selina found the radio station, and a voice came from it. "Earthlings, this is the Zenith. You've been discovered. Tremble in fear …"
Crack!
Sparks popped up from the radio station, and there was only smoke. Then, there was nothing else.
Nick asked, "… Is there another radio station here?"
Slick said, "No. You can only try. You might be able to fix it."
Nick said, "Then I'll have to find a vacuum tube first. Is there one here?"
Slick tried to think for a moment, before he replied, "There's only a vacuum cleaner. Will it work?"
Nick and Greg were lost for words.
Why didn't you say that there were vacuum bags here?
Greg said angrily, "If we can't find a phone, I'll make one myself."
Up above, Luke and the others were delighted when they heard the sound of a car engine.
But in the next moment, there was an explosion, followed by clanging noises.
Everybody looked at each other and opened the door, only to see that a red convertible had crashed into the metal barrels, and smoke was popping up from the hood.
A middle-aged woman wearing a red and white checkered shirt and a thick gray coat pushed open the car door and walked over in a crooked manner.
Hodges said, "… Fine, it seems that this car can't be driven. Also, why does this car look familiar? "
Luke smiled but didn't say anything.
Selina said, "If my eyes aren't deceiving me, this was the car that almost ran us over just now."
Everybody: Fine, we've finally found the culprit of the car accident.
The middle-aged woman seemed to be in a daze. She walked to the door and finally saw everybody who was observing her. "Well, who are you? Why … Why are you in my shop? "
As she stood there, a strong smell of alcohol wafted into everyone's nostrils, and she kept burping.
Selina asked, "Are you Henry?"
The middle-aged woman said mockingly, "Ha, I'm not Henry, but his wife. Well, to be more precise, the ex-wife that he abandoned. "
Everybody subconsciously looked at Henry, the birthday boy, who was sitting in the shop.
…
In the utility room, Nick and Greg were looking for tools.
Greg asked, "Slick, is there no phone here?"
Slick said, "The one in the shop is already broken. Even if it wasn't, it doesn't have a phone bill. Oh, there seems to be a spare phone on the wall over there. "
Greg left to look for a phone, and Nick continued looking for tools.
