Thanks to Luke's efforts, the SUV finally avoided a head-on collision with the old red car.
The two cars brushed past each other, but the SUV's left front wheel hit a slope on the side of the road, and the car was sent flying.
Luke quickly turned around and pulled Selina into his arms from the backseat.
During this process, the SUV also turned a little more than 270 degrees in the air. The left tire smashed into the ground more than ten meters away, bounced a few times, and collapsed in the wasteland on the side of the road.
Two seconds later, Luke pushed open the slightly deformed back door. He coughed in the dust and crawled out with the dizzy Selina in his arms.
Putting her down, he stuck his head into the car again and said, "Don't be in a hurry to move. If anyone feels uncomfortable, you'd better check them first."
Nick touched himself for a moment, before he shook his head. "I'm fine. I don't have any broken bones." He then vomited blood.
Luke said, "Buddy, you're vomiting blood!"
Nick said, "He's bleeding from his mouth. I think he hit his teeth."
Luke nodded. As a level 3 CSI, Nick had a lot of medical knowledge and was familiar with the anatomy of the human body. He couldn't be wrong.
Luke looked at Hodges, who had a high hairline, and said solemnly, "Well, I don't think I need any help." He then opened the door and got out.
Greg examined himself for a moment and said, "I'm fine, too."
Henry said, "Well, I think I sprained my ankle."
Everybody was lost for words. Wasn't this the first time he had been unlucky on his birthday?
Everybody got out of the car. Nick and the other three had minor scratches on their faces, but thankfully, they weren't serious.
Luke and Selina, on the other hand, were completely fine, which made the other four look at them strangely.
When the car flew just now, Luke had held Selina in his arms to protect her. That wasn't something that could be explained by being partners; he had been suicidal!
Luke certainly couldn't explain it to them. He had Elementary Self-Healing, and such minor injuries were nothing to him.
After standing there for a few minutes, the numbness and itchiness on his body had completely disappeared. Clearly, Elementary Self-Healing had healed him.
Everybody looked at their phones, only to find that there was no signal.
Greg tried the car again, only to find that it couldn't start.
Luke's modified phone actually had a signal, and it wasn't hard for Tony Stark to repair the car, but he had a vague feeling that something fun would happen if he hung out with the four CSIs.
Therefore, he did not say anything. If there was really an emergency, he could call!
Everyone looked at each other for a moment, and Nick asked, "What do we do?"
Greg said, "We're less than a mile away from Henry's pig-hiding place."
Nick suddenly laughed. Everyone looked at each other and finally laughed too. "Then, shall we continue?"
Henry: "… But my foot is injured."
Luke helped him up with a smile. "Let's go. I'll give you a hand."
Twenty minutes later, the six of them saw a rural restaurant in the valley.
On the signboard, a pink pig was standing and waving. On both sides of the pig was the name of the restaurant — Henry's Shoghideout.
This is the place!
Everyone was overjoyed, as if tourists in the desert had seen an oasis. Even Henry quickened his pace.
A moment later, they reached the restaurant, but their footsteps became heavier and heavier. Selina even had the urge to cry.
This was because the restaurant's door was locked, and there was an eye-catching "Closed" notice pasted on the side of the door!
This shop had actually closed down.
When they approached, Nick took down the notice and read it aloud. "Due to a hepatitis B outbreak, the health department has informed the restaurant to close on September 7, 2003."
Everybody: "…"
Hodges asked, "So, this place has been closed for five months?"
Nick asked, "Greg, what's the disease of the friend who introduced you to this place?"
Greg: "… Hepatitis B."
Everybody: "…"
With a complicated expression on his face, Henry patted Greg's shoulder and said, "Thank you for giving me hepatitis B as a birthday present."
Greg said, "You're welcome. Happy birthday."
While everyone was chatting awkwardly, there was a sudden gunshot, followed by a loud bang and the sound of glass shattering.
Luke took out his gun and gestured at Selina with his other hand.
Selina also quickly pulled out her gun, and the two of them began to gesture at the CSI members on the side.
Greg and Hodges helped Henry to hide behind a building. Nick also took out his gun and followed Luke and Selina to the back of the building where the gunshot had come from.
Luke wasn't moving very fast. He was activating Sharp Nose.
A moment later, he frowned and expanded the range of Sharp Nose even more carefully.
But nobody was behind the building.
Five minutes later, Nick came back and told Hodges and the others, "It's a little … weird. Let's go and take a look."
When they reached the back of the building, they saw a huge hole in the glass. Clearly, that was where the gunshot had come from.
Luke and Selina stood in front of the hole and didn't go in.
Seeing that everybody was coming over, he said, "Well, we found a victim."
Everyone followed his line of sight and looked into the hole. They saw a blackened figure leaning against a counter inside the room, sitting paralyzed on the ground.
Hodges asked, "Do I smell roasted meat?"
Henry said, "You're right. Their skin seems to be cooked."
Everyone: "…" Barbie Q had already closed down a long time ago, but suddenly there was a big roasted person. What the hell was going on?
Luke was utterly calm. His hunch was correct. Something was definitely going to go wrong when the four of them were together.
Everyone came in one after another and examined the strange corpse.
What was weird was that the man wasn't the only one on the body. There was also a blackened raccoon on his face, as if they were Siamese twins.
Luke and Selina didn't go forward. Nick crouched down and examined the bodies of the man and the raccoon. "The victim was holding a .38 revolver. There's no obvious gunshot wound on his body, and there's no blood around him. Oh, did he have a grudge against the raccoon? "
From the side, it could be seen that the raccoon's tough snout had been stuck into the man's right eye socket.
If there were no accidents, this would be a fatal wound.
Nick said, "Hodges, give him a hand. I need to check his back."
Hodges said, "I'm not a forensic doctor …"
Greg was the most straightforward. He immediately helped the man turn the body to one side. Examining the back for a moment, he said, "There's no obvious wound on his back. His upper body seems to be burnt. Is the raccoon burnt too? "
Hodges said, "It's a raccoon, also known as a North American raccoon. It looks like a specimen. Well, I bet it weighed at least thirty pounds when it was alive. "
Henry said, "Maybe the raccoon suddenly jumped out and bit his face with its sharp teeth, like a ninja in a cartoon. That's how it killed him. You know?"
