Chapter 171

Words:1655Update:22/06/26 10:53:40

Report

Luke didn't think much of it. He had never taken the expressions of these bigwigs seriously. Most of the time, their actions were only necessary because of the situation, and not because of their true feelings.

But the interrogation that followed was interesting, because there were two parties who were interrogating him.

On one side was the FBI, and on the other side was LAPD.

More interestingly, while the FBI seemed to be trying to prove that he hadn't done much, LAPD's questions highlighted his contributions again and again.

For example, the FBI asked, "Why didn't you escort the hostages until they were safely out of the building? Why did you let them run around until our men went up to protect them and rescue them? "

The LAPD immediately asked, "Why were you forced to leave the hostages on the rooftop and go down to clean up the criminals and ensure the hostages' safety?"

Luke spent most of the time smiling as he watched the two parties engage in a quarrel.

When they asked him questions, he cooperated fully with LAPD.

Last night, the FBI didn't get any credit, and they almost shot him, one of their own.

Also, now that Luke thought about it, it was possible that the FBI had done the criminals a favor.

He simply described what happened last night as it was, and tried to emphasize John McClane's contributions.

For example, he claimed that he and Detective John had taken care of the twenty criminals at the end, which was more reasonable.

He did that because Detective John had made a huge mess last night. He had smashed a hole through the second floor, and it would cost at least a million dollars to repair it.

If he didn't exaggerate John's contributions, the guy would definitely be in big trouble.

After all, he was a New York police officer, and didn't have the power to enforce the law in Los Angeles.

Luke wasn't sure if Nakatomi Corporation would be grateful for his help. If they were so shameless that they simply asked Detective John to pay for the damages, wouldn't Luke be wronged?

John couldn't afford the damages, but his wife could. The more contributions this detective made, the more justified his actions would be.

But it still had nothing to do with the FBI.

Detective John worked for NYPD, not the FBI.

In the end, Luke grew impatient with the FBI's nagging.

The FBI agent asked again, "How did you kill those criminals? Can you repeat that? "

Luke tapped the table. "I've already said it twice. Please don't doubt my abilities."

The FBI agent didn't seem to care at all. "We're just confirming it further …"

Luke waved his hand. "If you're patient enough, you can read the FBI's internal files. In September, I worked with the FBI in Shackelford, Texas. That night, I killed 13 armed Mexican gangsters, which the FBI confirmed yourself. Also, just last month, in a shootout on the highway near Queens and Nassau County, I killed nineteen and wounded twelve armed robbers. It's in NYPD's files. You can look it up. Now, what doubts do you have? "

The FBI agent was stunned.

If Luke had really done those two things, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that he had taken care of the robbers at Nakatomi Plaza that night. After all, Detective John had shared the firepower.

According to Luke, Detective John had killed at least a dozen people, while Luke himself had only killed around thirty. That didn't seem to be much different from the shootout in New York.

With the previous two examples, the FBI wouldn't be able to point out that it was impossible for Luke to have such an ability.

Of the two examples that Luke gave, one was the FBI's own conclusion, and the other was the conclusion of NYPD, a third party. There was no way they could deny it.

After being fooled by Luke, the FBI finally behaved themselves.

Especially after one of them came back and said a few words to their boss, the FBI's people obviously gave up.

This time, they finally didn't slack off. They found Luke's file in the FBI's internal files, which was much more comprehensive than the files of the police departments that Luke had worked for.

This young detective, who was only eighteen and had only been a police officer for half a year, had already cracked many dangerous cases.

After a rough calculation, this person had killed and injured nearly a hundred criminals in half a year.

Also, almost all of the criminals had been armed to the teeth, and Luke had single-handedly taken care of them when they committed crimes together.

Even a ten-man squad wouldn't be able to achieve such a feat, much less a single FBI agent.

Luke was truly capable, and his position was low. He wasn't afraid of them at all.

The FBI agent could only give up on the idea of treating Luke as a pushover, and talk to the higher-ups of LAPD to at least get a share of the profits from last night's case.

Otherwise, the commissioner who had arrived at the scene would've taken over the scene and cut off the power. Luke and Detective John had killed most of the criminals while they were still in the helicopter.

The FBI hadn't done anything except bring down a few hostages. That was too humiliating.

Luke regained his freedom after driving the FBI away.

The bigshots at the top didn't think too highly of him. At most, it was a coincidence that he was able to steal the FBI's credit.

For example, the Deputy Director Dunn from last night. He was the one who had been robbed of his command by the FBI. He felt indignant and was determined to cause trouble for the FBI.

But when Luke accidentally learned that it was this deputy director who had ordered eight SWAT officers to storm the building and the armored vehicles instead of scouting, Luke felt a chill run down his spine.

He was glad that the deputy director wasn't his boss, or that he wasn't in charge of frontline operations all the time. Otherwise, it would've been hard to say how many SWAT members would've died.

It was already five in the afternoon when he left Park Center after defeating the FBI agents.

In the morning, Luke received a call from Selina in Dustin's car. He briefly explained what had happened yesterday and today, and Selina complained that he hadn't called her even though it was such a big deal.

She hadn't watched TV last night, but had been watching soap operas online, so she didn't know about the gunfight in Nakatomi Plaza.

Jimena also called. She said that she was still waiting in line at the police department to give her statement, and wasn't sure when she would be leaving.

Luke asked her if she needed him to cut the line for her, but was turned down.

Nakatomi Corporation's employees were all waiting there, and it was a bit pretentious for an intern like her to cut the line.

Their plans for the night could only be canceled. Jimena said that a colleague would take her home, and told him not to wait.
