Yuan Xi's mind was completely focused on sending Huo Yao away, so she did not notice Huo Yao's actions. She merely looked at her and asked her. "Can I?"

Huo Yao released her fingers and did not say a word. Instead, she looked in the direction of Yuan Xi's gaze and saw two people standing in the corridor.

Coincidentally, they knew each other.

Huo Yao veered her eyes and raised her brow slightly. She looked at Yuan Xi and asked her. "What's your relationship with Yuan Huan?"

Yuan Xi's pupils narrowed. Instead of answering her question, she asked her instead. "Do you know him?"

"There's a research project in the faculty, and Yuan Huan is an external teacher," said Huo Yao simply.

Sure enough, the name she heard in the library belonged to no one else.

Yuan Xi looked at Yuan Huan, who was walking over to her. She paused before she replied softly. "He's my older brother."

Huo Yao had already guessed it. She glanced at Yuan Xi's face thoughtfully. "Are you two not on good terms?"

Yuan Xi's lips twitched. "We're half-siblings."

Brothers and sisters of different mothers would never get along. This was the true portrayal of many reconstructed families.

Huo Yao nodded and did not probe further.

Yuan Huan had already walked over. Yuan Xi instinctively took two steps forward and stood in front of Huo Yao. She looked at Yuan Huan and asked first. "Why are you here?"

Yuan Huan seemed to be used to his little sister's wariness. His eyes were deep but his voice was gentle. "I called you, but you didn't pick up."

Yuan Xi frowned. She did not believe that Yuan Huan did not see the text message she had sent earlier. However, it was not the right time to expose him, so she said, "I put my phone on silent mode, so I didn't notice. What's up?"

Yuan Huan glanced at her calmly.

Yuan Xi instantly felt a chill run down her spine. His gaze seemed to have plucked out all the thorns in her body. The words she wanted to say were stuck in her throat and could not come out.

Yuan Huan's eyes landed on Huo Yao's face and he smiled politely. "Hello, Huo Yao."

Huo Yao nodded her head politely with a calm expression and greeted him.

"I didn't expect you and Xi to know each other." Yuan Huan sounded a little surprised.

When Yuan Xi saw this, she clenched her fists, and the irritation in her heart grew stronger.

Huo Yao nodded. "What a coincidence."

Yuan Hen pursed his lips and stopped chatting with Huo Yao. He looked at Yuan Xi and said, "Let's go home tonight."

"No." Yuan Xi resisted subconsciously.

"It's dad's birthday today," said Yuan Huan.

Yuan Xi was stunned.

"I'll wait for you at the school gate in the afternoon. You can come out directly after class." Yuan Hen nodded at Huo Yao. Before Yuan Xi could respond, he waved his hand at Mu Qing, who was standing nearby.

Mu Qing followed them. He knew Huo Yao, so he merely glanced at her and nodded politely before leaving with Yuan Huan.

After they left, Yuan Xi came back to her senses. Her tense nerves were slightly relaxed. She unclenched her fists and found that her palms were full of cold sweat.

Yuan Xi exhaled. She quickly raised her head to look at Huo Yao with a serious look in her eyes. "Sister Yao, you should try your best to avoid contact with my brother from now on. He... is not as gentle as he looks."

"Uh huh. I know," replied Huo Yao softly. "Do you need me to get something for you?"

"Get what?" Yuan Xi was stunned. She had yet to process what Huo Yao meant.

Huo Yao raised her brow and turned to head to the school building.
