Report

In the laboratory, Shirley sat on a small stool with Zhang Jue holding her hand.

"Brother Zhang Jue, I'm a little scared." The little girl looked down at her toes. She was used to not making eye contact with others in this kind of situation.

"It's okay, your brother will always be with you." Zhang Jue comforted her and then nodded to Cremont.

Cremont said a few words into the walkie-talkie. After a while, the door of the laboratory opened and Cain walked in.

Outside the laboratory, a team of fully armed MTFs was on standby, ready to deal with any accidents that might happen.

Many researchers wanted to watch this experiment led by Zhang Jue, but because of Shirley's special constitution, they were all rejected.

Although Zhang Jue could activate his ability to temporarily nullify Shirley's cognitive damage, for safety reasons, he wanted to minimize the uncertainties of this experiment.

Only Cremont, as his assistant, was allowed to stay in the laboratory, but he also had to be timed. If the experiment took too long and reached a critical point, he would have to leave too.

Everything was ready. Zhang Jue looked around to make sure that there was nothing missing. He said to Cain, "Let's start."

Cain nodded and sat in front of Shirley. He held Shirley's other hand – even if Zhang Jue did not activate his ability, he seemed to be immune to Shirley's cognitive damage.

Cain slowly closed his eyes.

One minute passed, two minutes passed, five minutes passed.

Cain did not respond, as if he was asleep.

Cremont looked at the time and wanted to call Cain, but Zhang Jue stopped him with a look.

Two minutes later, Cremont had to leave the laboratory.

Only the three of them were left in the laboratory.

After a few more minutes, just as Zhang Jue's patience was about to run out, the strange symbol on Cain's forehead suddenly lit up.

A light blue light emitted from Cain's forehead, illuminating the entire laboratory.

Cain, who had never been hurt before, suddenly coughed violently and spat out a mouthful of blood.

His blood was red, but it emitted a faint golden light.

After being exposed to the air for a few seconds, it turned into smoke and disappeared.

"What happened to you?"

Zhang Jue hurriedly supported Cain.

Cain waved his hand, indicating that he was fine.

Cremont's voice came from Zhang Jue's earpiece. "Mr. Zhang, what's the matter? Do you want to stop the experiment?"

Zhang Jue glanced at Cain, who shook his head.

Zhang Jue said into the walkie-talkie, "Not for now. I'll let you know if I need anything."

Cain's face was somewhat pale as he said, "This little girl's situation is somewhat complicated."

Actually, Zhang Jue knew that the situation was not optimistic even if Cain did not say anything.

Who was Cain? To be able to injure him to the point of vomiting blood, this was no longer something that could be described as "complicated."

Cain glanced at Shirley and said, "I saw a shadow in her body."

"Shadow?"

"Yes." Cain said, "The shadow was surrounded by an unknown substance, and I couldn't see its shape clearly. I wanted to get closer, but I was repelled by a huge force."

Zhang Jue rubbed his chin, thinking about Cain's words.

"Is there a way for me to see it?" he suddenly asked.
