Fangzheng neither approved nor disapproved of such an education method. He completely ignored it, resulting in Fangzheng being wild for so many years. Even when he grew up, he was still spewing vulgarities. Although he had gained some insight into the philosophy of life and how to be a person, he was ultimately an ordinary child without any higher education. No matter how much Zen Master One Finger did, how much could he figure out by himself? As for his approval, it was because Zen Master One Finger had given him a happy childhood. Furthermore, his heart had never changed. He was still himself, still the same Fangzheng!
Even if the System suddenly appeared and shackled him, it would soon become inconsequential. He could not curse? Although Fangzheng would occasionally erupt, not cursing did not seem to affect his life. As for maintaining the bearing of a master in front of others, that was something Fangzheng had to learn. Regardless, he had to pretend to be a good master and accumulate merit so that he could renounce asceticism as soon as possible!
Thinking back to himself and then looking at Red Boy, Fangzheng was even more certain of his teaching direction. The present Red Boy was even more ferocious than he was in the past. Therefore, he needed to give him a proper warning and forcefully suppress his thoughts of killing without a word. Then, he would gradually guide and reform him. The rest would depend on how much he could understand. The earlier he understood, the earlier he would be freed. If he understood, the later he would be able to help Fangzheng in his old age …
To be honest, Fangzheng did not have much confidence in reforming the ferocious Red Boy.
Red Boy did not eat lunch at all. All he did was sit there in a daze.
"Jingxin, why aren't you eating?" asked Fangzheng.
Red Boy held his chin and looked ahead with a look of disdain. "I've had enough. Although I don't vomit anymore … I'm not interested in looking at them. I really don't understand you. Aren't you sick of eating this every day? How can this white rice and rotten vegetables be as delicious as meat? Master, I've seen the monks on Mount Numinous eat meat. Why can't you eat meat when it's your turn? Did that old demon also … "
"Oh?!"
Red Boy immediately changed his words. "Were you fooled by Bodhisattva?"
When Lone Wolf heard that, he secretly looked at Fangzheng. Although the Crystal Rice was delicious, Lone Wolf was ultimately a wolf. He still had some thoughts about meat.
Fangzheng knew that Lone Wolf must have thought of this problem, but he did not dare ask. Since Red Boy had brought up the topic today, he didn't mind talking about it.
Fangzheng put down his chopsticks and sat up straight. "Do you know why monks don't eat meat?"
Red Boy rolled his eyes and said, "If I knew, why would I ask you?"
Fangzheng ignored him and looked at Lone Wolf, Monkey, and Squirrel. Indeed, the three of them shook their heads. Only then did Fangzheng continue. "The Buddhist scripture, 'Precepts Guang Ben', writes very clearly: Buddhism does not have a rule to be vegetarian. What the Buddhists forbid was meat. This meat is not our current concept, but refers to animal foods such as chicken, duck, fish, and so on. The meat we are talking about now is called "fishy" in Buddhism, not "meat". In the Buddhist scriptures, the word 'hun' should be pronounced as' xun 'instead of' hun '. It means' smoky ', referring to vegetables with a smoky smell.' Hun is the odor of vegetables. ' The Brahman's Net Scripture was even more specific: "If the Buddha does not eat the five poisons, he will not be able to eat them. Garlic, spring onions, spring onions, orchid onions, and Xingqu are the five spices. Meat refers to these five kinds of vegetables. Note that the five spices here do not only refer to specific vegetables, but also refers to all spicy vegetables. Therefore, as long as it is spicy and stimulating vegetables, it should not be eaten.
The word 'hun' came from the top of the grass and not from the side of the meat, indicating that the original meaning of hun was that it was a plant and not an animal. Therefore, monks in the past were allowed to eat meat.
However, there were always exceptions.
About fourteen hundred years ago, there was a change with the Southern Dynasty's Emperor Liang, Xiao Yan.
Xiao Yan was a Buddhist, but to what extent did he believe in Buddhism? In order to become a monk, he racked his brains. He could give up the world and his harem of beauties. As long as he could become a monk, he was willing to do anything. He even called himself the Slave of Three Treasures. What was even worse was that in order to be a monk in peace, he gave himself to a monastery, which was then known as Tongtai Monastery.
Unfortunately, only the emperor was in charge of the world in that era. There was no deputy emperor who could manage the government while the emperor was reciting the scriptures. Instantly, the entire country was in chaos. The ministers were also helpless. Countless meetings had been held. No matter how willful the emperor was, the country still had to manage it! Thus, after thinking about it for a long time, they finally came up with a solution, which was to redeem the Emperor!
Therefore, these ministers took the money and sent it to Tongtai Monastery. Then, they forcefully redeemed Emperor Xiao Yan. However, the emperor was also a weirdo. Redeem me? Then I'll give myself up again! The ministers also fought it out with him. If you give me up, I'll redeem you! After all, the money belonged to the country!
In this way, Tongtai Monastery benefited from it. Tongtai Monastery realized that this wasn't a solution! The current emperor was a Buddhist. If it were a different emperor and he didn't like him and saw that he was rich, he might just attack them. Unfortunately, Xiao Yan was bent on being a monk. No one could do anything about it.
From this, it could be seen how infatuated Xiao Yan was with the Buddhist Dharma. Later, when he saw that it was forbidden to kill in a book, he pondered that it wasn't enough to ban killing. If there was no trade, there would be no killing. If there was no one to eat, who would kill? Therefore, he issued a ban, forbidding all monks in the world from eating meat. At the same time, he raised this rule to the point that even gods and ancestors had to enjoy the treatment of monks. In other words, in the future, when offering sacrifices to heaven and earth, gods, and ancestors, they could no longer use pig heads. Instead, they would all use pig heads and pork made of flour.
It was also from then on that the rule of monks not eating meat was established. However, the Southern Dynasty had only existed for a few years. Furthermore, it had never unified the entire country, so its influence was far from being able to influence future generations.
However, when Kumarajiva translated the Buddhist scriptures, he added not eating meat into the Bodhisattva Precepts. The original Bodhisattva Precepts had long been lost. The Bodhisattva Precepts that future generations saw were all translated by Kumarajiva, so they naturally saw the precepts against eating meat. However, it was only an advocacy, not a mandatory rule. After all, Kumarajiva had married his cousin as his wife. However, this was the beginning of the expansion of the propaganda, and its influence was very wide.
The rule that monks could not eat meat became a mandatory rule during the Tang Dynasty, when Zen was flourishing. The Zen sect's "Thousand Feet of Pure Rules" clearly stated that monks could not eat meat. However, in the beginning, it was only targeted at martial monks. Later, it became a requirement for all monks.
Even so, whether or not monks could eat meat depended on the situation and was treated differently. There was no generalization. ,,
Buddhism is divided into Mahayana and Hinayana. Mahayana is the method to enlighten others with one's heart, so no meat can be eaten. This is also Xiao Yan's theory. If there is no eating, there is no killing.
Hinayana only seeks to enlighten oneself, not others, and is allowed to eat three kinds of "pure meat". The "three pure meat" are: "First, those who are not seen to be killed; second, those who are not heard to be killed; and third, those who are not suspected to be killed by me."
For the "sick Bhikkhus", that is, the monks who are sick, a humanitarian policy is implemented. They are given special care and can eat any meat. Nowadays, the monks of India, Sri Lanka, and other countries, as well as the monks of the Mongolian, Tibetan, Dai, and other ethnic minorities in Huaxia are all allowed to eat meat. "
