Chapter 66

Report

Inside the building, there were not many people who had the ability to tamper with their neighbors' memories, the mysterious building manager was one of them. Therefore, Han Fei's suspicion was not without reason.

After playing the game for several days, Han Fei could now categorize the tenants into two groups, those who could communicate with each other and those who were consumed by despair and pain.

Since these two groups shared the same apartment, there was some kind of connection between them. Han Fei still had not gotten to the bottom of it but he believed all the secrets were hidden inside the building manager's room.

'The 10th floor, I have to go to the 10th floor as soon as possible.'

After Meng Si's condition stabilized, the exhausted Han Fei left Room 1031.

He returned to Room 1044 and closed the front door behind him.

'I have a good relationship with Meng Si on the 3rd floor, the big sister on the 5th floor is still in the middle of' clearing 'and Weep's impression of me has changed. Now I only need to help my roommates recover their sanity and I can say that I've achieved the small goal of having a harmonious neighbourhood.'

After playing the game for so long, Han Fei's mentality slowly changed.

Initially, he investigated the cases for the sake of survival but as he got to know more about them, Han Fei started to want to find out the truth and avenge his neighbors.

'It's time to go. After playing this game for so long, it feels like this world is real.'

Pressing the exit button, the world was dyed red and Han Fei's consciousness started to blur.

Removing the gaming helmet, Han Fei lay in bed and did not want to move.

Compared to the physical exhaustion, it was more of a mental exhaustion.

'The actor job is out of the question for now, I still have enough money in my bank account to survive for a while.' Han Fei opened his bank account on his phone. 'Currently, I have two ways to earn money. One is to wait until Perfect Life officially enters OB. Then I'll earn money through the game. But I don't think I'll be able to transport these specialties from the underworld to the real world. The other way to earn money is through the rewards from solving cases.'

His eyes scanned Meng Changan's picture and Han Fei saw 50,000 RMB pasted on the wall.

'It's all about earning money.'

This time, Han Fei found a key clue in the game — Dong Hwa Ice Factory. The most painful place in Meng Si's memory was the ice factory. This was different from Han Fei's previous information. Han Fei planned to visit it after he woke up.

At 10 am, Han Fei was woken up by the alarm clock. He had a quick breakfast and then took out his phone to call Li Xue.

"Do you have time now? Can you accompany me to a place? " Even though Han Fei had not participated in solving a case before, he had seen many similar movies. The main character would rush to investigate the case after receiving a clue, and in the end, he would fall into a desperate situation. Han Fei would not allow that to happen to him.

"Where to?"

"In the Frozen Body Case, the cold container was probably not the first death scene. Meng Si and Chen Chen's bodies were moved before."

"We already know that."

"Do you know where the first death scene is?"

"I can't be sure yet."

"I'll take you there."

It did not take Han Fei long to convince Li Xue. One hour later, Li Xue drove Han Fei to the northern countryside.

Xin Lu occupied a large area. The wealthiest and most of the middle class resided in the smart city. Outside the smart city was the old city. It was a chaotic place before the citizen information system was built.

Other than the smart city and the old city, Xin Lu had 4 other suburbs.

With the development of technology, the population from the suburbs moved into the city. Xin Lu's outskirts became more and more deserted. Abandoned buildings and factories littered the place.

The Dong Hwa Ice Factory Han Fei was looking for was located at the northern countryside of Xin Lu. This was a very small ice factory. It chose to build the factory in the countryside mainly because the electricity was cheap, the water supply was plentiful and there were no residents nearby. Therefore, there was no worry of disturbance.

Leaving the main road, Han Fei and Li Xue weaved through the abandoned buildings. It was daytime but there was not a soul to be seen.

After walking for another 10 minutes, Han Fei finally saw the sign for the ice factory at the end of a small road.

The paint on the sign was badly chipped and the words were mottled.

"It feels like this ice factory has been closed for a long time already."

The road leading into the ice factory was filled with cracks and grass grew between the cracks.

"Even if this is the first scene of death of the victim, what can we find after ten years?" Li Xue was excited when she first heard the news but she calmed down on the way. "Han Fei, how did you know this is the first death scene?"

"It's just a guess." Han Fei answered casually. He looked at the cement wall that was 2 metres tall. After a running start, he leaped into the air and climbed over the wall. "My stamina has indeed improved. Before this, it was hard for me to even climb a tree."

"Don't rush forward alone and don't stray too far away from me, do you understand?" Li Xue had also jumped into the building. She was obviously more experienced than Han Fei. Her movements were light and she did not make much noise.

"No problem." Both of them kept their voices to a whisper. They followed the wall and moved deeper into the factory.

After entering the ice-making factory, the two of them purposely reduced their communication. They tried not to talk as much as possible and focused all their attention on searching for clues.

Dong Hwa Ice Factory was not big. Two heavily rusted ice brick machines and ice crushers were placed in the yard. The makeshift sheds around them had collapsed.

"Let's take a look inside the factory."

The two entered the dimly lit factory. The temperature inside appeared to be lower than outside.

The time span was too long and the factory did not yield anything. Just as Han Fei was wondering if he had missed something, Li Xue paced around the room alone.

"What are you doing?"

"The ice-making factory must have a freezer or an icehouse to store ice, but we didn't see any place to store ice when we entered this place." Li Xue stopped when she reached the northeast corner of the factory. She pulled back the tattered straw mat on the ground to reveal a thin steel plate.

"Let me help you." Han Fei walked over to help but Li Xue suddenly raised her arm, signaling Han Fei to stay away.

She walked around the steel plate and turned on the recorder. Then she pulled out the baton from behind her waist.

By then, Han Fei noticed something strange. The edge of the steel plate was not covered by the straw mat but there was no dust on it. It was as if someone had opened it recently.

"There's someone in the underground icehouse?"

Li Xue gestured for Han Fei to grab something to defend himself. Then she grabbed one side of the steel plate with one hand and lifted it open.

Underneath the steel plate, the sound of wind could be heard. The icehouse appeared to be connected to other places.
