Mo Fan and the others had completed their mission. To avoid being affected by the sandstorm, they purposely left the area of the maze and set up new tents to rest and treat their wounds.
When Mo Fan asked Nanyu why she had suddenly left her post, Nanyu told him how she was ambushed all of a sudden.
"I saw a monster covered in sand floating in the air. It looked like a sand demon, but it was speaking in a language similar to a human's. Its eyes were similar to a human's, but they were filled with hatred and viciousness, like a vengeful spirit. Its movement and flight were accompanied by a strong sandstorm. It chased me for a long time, but strangely enough, it did not kill me. It kept chasing me until I was worn out, "Nanyu recalled the incident with lingering fear.
The monster's aura was fairly strong. Nanyu believed that if the monster wanted to kill her, it could simply raise its hand and direct the sandstorm behind it at her, yet it did not do anything. It simply chased her away with its hatred.
"Is there really such a strange thing in this world?" Zhao Manting said.
"Are you sure it was speaking in a human's language?" Jiang Yu asked seriously.
"It was, but I can't tell which country's language it was speaking," Nanyu replied.
"Could it be an Elemental Evil Spirit?" Jiang Yu said.
"What's an Elemental Evil Spirit?"
"Do you remember the monk at Yanming Temple? He's the Vessel Demon Spirit that used to be the wooden clapper?" Jiang Yu said.
"Why wouldn't I remember? It was like a vengeful spirit!"
"After the monk died, his soul resided inside a powerful vessel, turning him into a demon spirit like a demon beast. On the other hand, if a dead person's soul resides in a place filled with powerful elemental energy, it's very likely that an Elemental Evil Spirit will appear. I believe the thing Nanyu saw was an Elemental Evil Spirit, a Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit. It also explains why we and the others were caught in the sandstorm. It's obvious that the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit is active nearby! "Jiang Yu said.
After stumbling into the Vessel Demon Spirit at Yanming Temple in Japan, Jiang Yu purposely looked into demon spirits and evil spirits. < p >
Nanyu glanced at Mo Fan after hearing Jiang Yu's explanation. She whispered, "Speaking of which, Little Flame Belle's mother, the Fiery Sorceress, Jiang Feng, is an Elemental Evil Spirit too?"
Even though they had the bodies of demon creatures and possessed powerful demonic spells, they still retained some of their human behavior. As Jiang Yu had mentioned, they were a bunch of Elemental Wraiths. They used to be a bunch of human Magicians, but their souls had found a new place to rest after they died, and were reborn in a different way in this special place!
…
Either way, someone had taken over the case, thus they did not have to worry too much. With the Super Magician who was familiar with the desert maze, they should be able to hold their ground even if they stumbled into the Sandstorm Evil Spirit.
Mo Fan lay in the tent and started counting the loot he had obtained from the battle.
After killing so many Warrior-level Magical Beasts, Mo Fan had obtained five Warrior-level Soul Essences from the Little Loach Pendant. Mo Fan didn't hesitate to use the five Soul Essences to strengthen his Lightning Stars.
With another two Soul Essences, his Lightning Strike would evolve to the fifth-tier, too. Its power would not be to be underestimated.
Mo Fan was about to meditate when he suddenly heard a strong gust of wind outside the tent. An unusual aura lingered outside the tent.
Mo Fan and the others immediately came out of the tent and were shocked to see the place close to the desert maze covered in yellow dust. The thick sand was like a landslide rising into the sky. Their hearts shuddered when they saw it!
"Such a strong sandstorm, it feels like it's about to reach us," said Jiang Yu in astonishment.
"Let's go, let's go!"
Realizing that they were going to be caught in the sandstorm, the group immediately retreated toward the Mediterranean Sea.
After running for at least twenty to thirty kilometers, what made people's hearts palpitate was that the sandstorm that reached the sky was actually getting closer and closer!
The sandstorm was a few times stronger than the one before, as if it was going to devour the whole place.
"Look!"
The sky toward the Mediterranean Sea was still blue, but the sky toward the Sahara Desert was completely dark. It was a yellow, rolling sandstorm.
At the top of the huge wave of sand and dust, a proud and disdainful figure could be seen!
Just as Nanyu had described, it was surrounded by floating sand particles. Its eyes were filled with a strong hatred and restlessness. The sandstorm was its doing, as the creature was like a commander standing in the middle of an army. In other words, the sandstorm was a part of it!
Nanyu's heart skipped a beat when she saw the figure standing at the top of the sandstorm.
She was even more shocked than the last time she saw the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit. It was obvious that only a Ruler-level creature could possess such an aura. Even an ordinary Ruler-level creature would not be able to devour the sandstorm within a few dozen kilometers!
The group kept running until they reached a place where they could see the ocean.
The sandstorm did not stop. It did not weaken even when it reached the ocean. Soon, the surface of the ocean was covered in sand!
The coastline was originally a beautiful beach, but because of the sandstorm, the entire coastline was pushed deeper into the ocean. It felt like the Sahara Desert had expanded a little because of the sandstorm!
"Holy crap, what kind of monster is that? That's too scary."
Mo Fan and the others were sitting on the back of a creature that Jiang Yu had Summoned on the Mediterranean Sea. They were utterly dumbfounded.
The ocean was filled up, the desert was further away because of the sandstorm, and it was all because of the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit!
In the misty yellow sky, they could still remember the creature's hateful and disdainful eyes …
"I … I'm afraid they won't be able to make it out alive, right?"
Jiang Shaoxu asked in a deep voice, staring at the desert that extended all the way to the ocean.
"I think so, luckily we chose to leave."
"That's too scary, I'm never going to the Sahara Desert again. Even that Super Mage would die in there."
It was hard to tell if they were lucky, or the people that had gone to the Sahara Desert were unlucky. The sandstorm that the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit had produced had devoured everything. It had devoured the relatively safe area that Mo Fan and the others were at, and it had even spread to the distant Mediterranean Sea.
Judging from the furious roars of the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit, the people that were caught in the sandstorm were most likely dead.
…
This trip could be said to have personally experienced the horrors of the Sahara Desert. At this moment, no matter how high the price was, the few of them would never set foot in that desert again.
Regardless of whether it was the conflict between the tribes or the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit, they had all cast a huge shadow over their hearts.
Mo Fan and the others headed for Egypt along the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea to regroup with the team that had come with them.
The advisors had given them their rewards after they arrived in Egypt. The African Magic Association had also sent a few groups of people to interrogate them about what had happened in the Sahara Desert.
Judging from their nervous attitude, it seemed like neither the students that had fallen into the sandstorm nor the team led by the Super Mage had made it out alive.
It did make sense now that they thought about it. It seemed like the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit had been waiting for David and the others to show up. It had suddenly unleashed its fury and covered the sky …
"It seems like that Super Mage called David is somehow related to the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit," Nanyu said.
It had been a few days since they had left the Sahara Desert, yet the memory of the sandstorm was still vivid in their minds.
"Sigh, we sent them to save them, but we ended up causing a greater disaster instead," Jiang Shaoxu sighed.
"What do you think the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit's strength is? I think it's the strongest creature in the world!" Zhao Manting said.
"I think it's above average among the Ruler-level creatures," Mo Fan commented.
"Why?" Zhao Manting asked.
Everyone subconsciously looked at Mo Fan. Their hearts were filled with astonishment. Their thoughts were the same as Zhao Manting's. The Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit of the Sahara Desert was definitely one of the strongest creatures in the world, able to devour everything within a few dozen kilometers and fill up the ocean … if it was not the strongest, what was the real king of the demon creatures?
"I've seen the strongest among the Ruler-level creatures. The Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit should be a level lower than them," Mo Fan replied calmly.
"Don't try to fool us, we're serious about it. I don't think there's any creature stronger than the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit in the world."
"You're making a huge mistake if you think that way. Let me tell you this, there are at least two creatures in our country that can defeat the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit!" Mo Fan said.
"Which two?"
Mo Fan wore a mysterious smile. However, when he saw Mu Ningxue looking at him curiously, telling him that she wanted to know the answer too, Mo Fan could no longer keep up the act.
"I can only tell you that one is in Hangzhou, and the other is in the Ancient Capital."
"Hangzhou? Don't tell me you're referring to the Skyscraping Snake that appeared in the city? I heard that the creature fought against the Silver Skyruler at West Ridge like it was an elementary school kid. I'd believe it if you said the Guardian Beast in Hangzhou is stronger than the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit. However, the other one that appeared in the Ancient Capital … could it be the strongest Zombie Ruler that almost uprooted the entire city, the Mountain Zombie? "Jiang Yu was in high spirits when he mentioned the matter.
"Are they really stronger than the Sandstorm Vengeful Spirit?"
"Definitely!"
