In the Atomic Universe …
After Natasha fell asleep, Lucien stood up and walked to his desk. He took out a thick stack of papers from his storage bag and turned to one of the pages. While thinking, he drew seven lines under the word 'consciousness' with his quill, pointing at 'greed', 'pride', 'pain', and the other emotional words that represented the seven primeval devils.
Then, he put a big question mark after the seven words and wrote, "The transformation of the quantum state of the soul requires more possible superpositions? The superposition of multiple feelings and consciousnesses?
"The pure aggregation of the consciousnesses of faith will offset one's own consciousness, so that there will be no collapse and the quantum superposition state will be maintained? But it will also affect one's own consciousness and cause great problems?
"How can it be resolved?"
As he wrote, Lucien put on a smile. He tapped the paper softly with his fingers, as if he were guessing something.
Shaking his head with a vague smile, Lucien put the paper away and took out a new paper.
"'Relativistic Wave Equation of a Single Electron'."
Natasha, who was exhausted, suddenly sensed the terrifying power of annihilation while she was recovering. She immediately opened her eyes warily, only to discover that the magnetic field around Lucien, who was wearing a nightgown, was twisting. The dreamy spectrum was unfolding like a painting, and the overwhelming power was descending from the infinite heights!
The colors nearby were half black and half white. After they collided, they were destroyed in an unimaginable state, before they were reborn from the void.
"Feedback from the real world …" Looking at the changing scene that was half black and half white, Natasha understood what was going on. Also, she seemed to understand something from it. Was it the cycle of the creation and destruction of matter?
The experience that she had accumulated in the past two years when she tried to break into the level of a Legendary Knight and the problems that arose from the bloodline of the Sword of Truth that was purely destructive were vaguely answered at this moment.
She tugged at her loose pajamas and quietly walked to Lucien's side to watch him write his thesis.
"… I tried to avoid the negative energy result that Dieppe, Larry, and Jurisian deduced, but after constructing the equation and explaining all the experiment results so far, I found that the deduction of negative energy was inevitable. So, even though it was unreasonable, I had to include it in our arcana theory and build a new system that could include it. I predicted that there was an antielectron with a positive electric charge. When it met an electron, it would immediately be annihilated and disappear, resulting in tremendous energy …"
"Generalizing it, there may be other antiparticles, and the matter formed by these antiparticles can be called antimatter …"
While he was writing, Lucien also thought of certain concepts in the quantum field theory that he had verified. Therefore, in the fluctuation of the vacuum, positive and negative electrons were born, and they annihilated each other to release energy.
In his cognitive world, the background of the universe became hazy, as if it were creating and destroying matter incessantly. The vast cosmos arrived from the uncanny distance again, bringing tremendous feedback from the real world, changing the things in his cognitive environment and constructing a new legendary spell that was not quite complete!
Also, 'Eternal Blaze' in Lucien's cognitive world was naturally carved into his soul, allowing him to step into level three of legendary, even though there were only ten legendary spells!
"Positron Cannon?" Lucien drew an end to his thesis and sensed the incomplete new legendary spell with his eyes closed. He knew that in order to make it complete, he had to find the real 'antielectron'.
"Without understanding the mysteries of the world, it is indeed difficult to improve by polishing and perceiving the power of blood power …" Natasha sighed next to him. That was why the number of legendary Knights was lower than that of sorcerers as they advanced. However, she soon cheered herself up and said, "Thankfully, although I don't know the specific arcana theories, with your explanations and demonstrations … I think I can advance into legendary very soon …"
Lucien looked at her with a smile. "Any class will end up in the same direction when they reach the top — the understanding of the mysteries of the world. However, the arcanists' approach to the mysteries of the world is the best and most effective."
That was exactly why different roads led to the same destination.
… …
After Lucien's public class, the entire Congress of Magic was caught in a weird 'silence'. Everybody was discussing the double-slit experiment, Oliver's cat, Douglas' entangled particles, Lucien's delayed choice experiment, and so on. However, nobody was discussing the influence of consciousness, thinking, and intelligent observers on the microscopic world. They subconsciously avoided the most horrifying explanation.
However, just because they did not think about it, it did not mean that the grand arcanists and the distinguished arcanists in the microscopic domain did not think about it. The papers on that topic had been submitted to the Arcana Review Board.
Larry sat in the dark library like a statue, as if he had not moved for thousands of years. Oliver's cat terrified him, and Lucien's observer theory scared him. He could not focus on his own studies and adventures. His head was full of questions about that.
Suddenly, he sighed and picked up a stack of papers that needed to be reviewed.
"'What Is Consciousness Exactly?' … Mr. Vicente … "
"'The Boundary between Soul and Body' … Mr. President …"
"'The Difference between Soul and Consciousness: The Problem of the Observer Effect' … Mr. Fernando …"
"'What Is Observation?' … Ms. Hathaway … "
Reading those papers, Larry felt that his head was swollen and chaotic. After Mr. Evans introduced consciousness to the microscopic world, the realm of elements that should have been objective and real were suddenly filled with colorful illusions. The unbelievable conjectures seemed to be destroying his worldview.
He pressed his forehead and put the papers that discussed consciousness, soul, and observation aside, deciding not to think about them for now. Suddenly, he saw a relatively thick paper.
"'The Relativistic Wave Equation of a Single Electron', Lucien Evans …"
He had written papers on that before. Therefore, he was refreshed and focused on reading.
As he read, he became extremely excited. His left hand pulled his bow-tie nonstop, as if he were trying to release the passion in his heart. "He has directly guessed the form of an equation and then explained it."
"Also, this equation is full of mathematical and arcana beauty. It is concise and elegant, and it seems to contain the most profound and fundamental laws and mysteries!"
Then, his eyes suddenly widened, because all the problems in the microscopic world in the past few years had been explained by Lucien with the equation. The Brook scattering experiment, the abnormal splitting of magnetic fields, the fine structure of spectra … They were all perfectly unified by the equation. Even the hypothesis of the electron spin model proposed by Annick and Sprint had been derived by Lucien with the equation, showing that it was a relativistic effect of electrons under the conservation law.
Reading such a paper, Larry felt that the achievements were overwhelming him one after another. It was too much for him to take in. He thought to himself, This is a perfect summary and distillation of the great development in the microscopic domain in the past. The glorious and dazzling golden age has been condensed into a paper!
"Before, when we studied the microscopic world, it was like picking apples for ordinary people. It was very difficult for them to get one, but Mr. Evans' equation and this paper show that the apples are already ripe and are falling like raindrops …"
After his shock, he reviewed the rest of the paper. When he saw Lucien's speculation about antiparticles and antimatter, he was silent for a moment. "… Why did I not dare to make such a bold prediction at the beginning?"
Of course, he also knew that there were many problems with his previous equation, not just about negative energy.
"Will there really be positrons …" Larry said to himself and wrote down his review opinion.
"This is undoubtedly the most profound, shocking, and classic equation in the microscopic world, exceeding everything else. To distinguish it from the Evans Field Equation, I call it the Lucien equation. Starting from this equation, all the problems that have accumulated for a long time have been answered. This is the sublimation of the age of arcana development! Of course, I don't think that this is the end of the golden age in the microscopic world but the end of the prelude. The first movement is about to begin! "
…
Out of everybody's expectation, after proposing consciousness and the observer effect, Lucien did not dwell on those problems but announced the combination of the special theory of relativity and quantum mechanics with a shocking equation that drove away the mist in the microscopic world. It was like a lightning striking the sky and illuminating the darkness. Nobody doubted the vitality of quantum mechanics and the new alchemy anymore.
"If we don't consider why there are probabilistic explanations, the uncertainty principle, and the collapse of the wave function, this is definitely a golden age in the development of arcana …"
Almost all the arcanists had such mixed feelings, but they also knew that they had to face the weird phenomena one day if arcana and magic wanted to continue developing. They had to explore the arcana significance behind them and solve the problems of soul, magic, and quantum state. By then, they had to make a choice for arcana and magic:
Life or death?
Or life and death?
