Inside the library of Babel …

Lucien leaned against the back of the chair as if he were asleep, with a cup of water in front of him. But in fact, he was reading the files about quantum mechanics in the Library of the Soul, absorbing and learning the knowledge hungrily, especially the parts about matrix mechanics. He was calculating in his soul now and then.

Even for Lucien right now, the content of matrix mechanics was too complicated to be grasped. It was like an enormous but cold monster that was unfriendly and even ferocious for any beginners.

Lucien could've proposed the Schrodinger wave equation along the route of de Broglie waves and opened the content of wave mechanics in a way that the school of electromagnetism and the school of light and darkness were more familiar with and used to. It was also a major branch of quantum mechanics, which could also solve most of the doubts about the new alchemy.

However, it was based on the perspective that electrons were wave-like, which was an extension of the wave theory. Lucien, on the other hand, was regarded as one of the main representatives of the particle theory. If he suddenly turned his back on the friendly arcanists and joined the wave theory with concrete evidence, it was very likely that his friends and partners would be blown into pieces.

Therefore, Lucien would rather learn matrix mechanics that was based on the particle property and discontinuity and solve the problem of the model of the new alchemy with it. When the supporters of the particle theory would no longer waver their belief in the new alchemy and particles, he would slowly throw out the monsters such as the de Broglie waves and the electron diffraction experiment and establish the wave-particle duality for real.

"Matrix mechanics, wave mechanics … This seems to be another battlefield between the particle theory and the wave theory. Although they are mathematically equivalent, they are just different expressions of the same theory …" Lucien said to himself. "Matrix … What a trendy word …"

He was reminded of the Matrix.

Closing the book of quantum mechanics in the Library of the Soul, Lucien took a breath and perfected the new mathematical concept of matrix on the draft paper.

Although half a year was enough for Lucien to grasp the primitive matrix mechanics, he did not try to infer conclusions or run experiments until his soul was stabilized after he became a legend. Therefore, he did not receive any feedback from the real world. Also, half of his attention had been devoted to the construction of legendary magic models.

Among them, 'Space Staff' was relatively simple. After Lucien's soul was recovered, it was completed in only two weeks. 'Vengeful Gaze', thanks to Lucien's analysis and simplification with the knowledge about lasers in the Library of the Soul, had almost reached the last phase, too.

The vague, refreshing fragrance entered Lucien's nose, indicating that Natasha had left. Because the wedding had not been officially held, and because of Kritonia and the rest of them, the two of them did not live together. However, Natasha often visited Allyn, and Lucien occasionally visited the Grand Dukes Of Orvarit in the Nekso Palace and stayed there.

Their communication was through Hathaway's demiplane, as if they would not give Kritonia and the rest of them any chance. However, they also went to the Land of Thousand Lakes for vacations now and then, as if they did not care about the dangers at all. Also, nothing dangerous happened during their vacations.

Taking a deep breath, Lucien was quite cautious about the wedding in a few months. If Kritonia and the rest of them did not seize the 'opportunity' to attack, there was no need for him to waste time on them. He could simply show his legendary strength and eliminate the danger in the cradle. He could not live a cautious life for a long time just because he had to set up traps. In such a case, he might as well move into the demiplane, where his safety would be greatly improved. By then, two of the space-time nodes of the Atomic Universe would be established in the Nekso Palace and the Allyn magic tower, respectively.

Retracting his thoughts, Lucien put down the quill and was ready to continue the analysis of 'Vengeful Gaze' and try to finish it as soon as possible. At this moment, rhythmic knocks echoed at the door.

Without sensing with his spiritual power, Lucien knew that it was Leo through his control of the magic tower. He was standing outside of the room with a letter in his hand. "Come in."

"My lord, it's a letter from Mr. Raventi." Said Leo concisely, knowing that his lord hated being long-winded when he studied arcana and magic.

"Okay. Put it on the table." Lucien, who had been communicating with the leadership of the Will of Elements and the arcanists who were familiar with the letters, was not surprised. In the past half year, Mr. Raventi had often written to him to discuss the new alchemy with him.

After Leo closed the door of the library, Lucien picked up the letter. The projection of his Host Star of Destiny gave him a bad feeling.

Opening the letter, Lucien's eyes were frozen the moment he saw the beginning. The bold assumption was very similar to the de Broglie wave.

"Could it be that someone released this terrifying monster ahead of time?" Lucien smiled in self-mockery. This was not a game. Nobody could go as he expected.

Since the monster had already stuck its head out, Lucien no longer bothered himself with the question of why it appeared in advance. Instead, he started to read the letter carefully, thinking about how to minimize the influence.

"… From the perspective of waves of electrons, we can consider them as standing waves in the orbit. In this way, the orbit can only be an integer multiple of the wavelength. Therefore, the quantization is naturally derived …" Lucien thought and rubbed his eyebrows.

After a long time, Lucien put the letter back on the desk and sighed slightly. "There are also bold and whimsical arcanists in this world. Luckily, he hasn't completed the electron diffraction experiment yet. Otherwise, I'll have to use my privilege as a grand arcanist to ask him to postpone the submission of the paper and do it step by step in case too many heads explode."

If Lucien suddenly threw out such a thing, at least one-third of the senior-rank arcanists in the field of Element and Alchemy would not be able to bear the shock. Their heads would either explode, or their cognitive world would be shattered and solidified. The rest of the arcanists would also be confused for a long time. After all, all the previous phenomena and experiment results had proved beyond doubt that electrons were particles. Ever since Lucien discovered them, no one doubted it.

"There's no need to postpone the submission of the paper. After all, there's no evidence yet. I'll show my authority first and let the arcanists face the problem seriously. When they have comprehensive attention and in-depth thinking, I'll throw out the electron diffraction experiment." Lucien soon made the decision and wrote his opinion on the letter from Raventi.

"What a whimsical assumption …"

… …

The winter sun had fallen below the horizon very early. It was not dinner time yet, but it was already dark everywhere. Dieppe paced back and forth in his guest room in Raventi's magic tower anxiously. All kinds of weird thoughts popped up in his head one after another. Some of them were even completely opposite.

"If Mr. Evans agrees with my paper, does it mean that electrons are really waves? It's unbelievable, and there's no phenomenon or experiment to prove it. "

Since it was based on a bold assumption, Dieppe had some doubts about the paper himself. If Lucien agreed with the paper without any doubt, he would hesitate and dare not to accept it. Electrons were waves. It was an absurd thing in anybody's head, even if it was Dieppe who made the assumption himself.

"If Mr. Evans gives a negative opinion as tactfully as Mr. Morris and the rest of them, maybe my paper is really wrong."

In such a way, the world was back to normal. Dieppe was relieved, but he was still somewhat unwilling to give up. The bold idea that burst out when the new alchemy was in a bottleneck and the unimaginable paper that solved some problems to some extent was the fruit of his painstaking efforts. It was the spark of his wisdom that glittered for a moment. He could not accept it if it was rejected by everybody.

"In any case, even if Mr. Evans disagrees, as long as he does not point out obvious mistakes, I will still verify it with the experiment results. I cannot give up easily."

In the extreme internal conflict, Dieppe was more and more anxious. The idea of winning Lucien's approval gradually took over, and the self-motivation of not giving up was even more overwhelming.

"Why is there no reply yet?" Dieppe looked out of the window again. He had done the same movement a hundred times since the afternoon.

Although he knew that Mr. Evans was very busy with his studies and arcana studies and might not have the time to read the letter, Dieppe could not help but look forward to it.

Suddenly, his eyes caught the figure of a familiar bird, so he jumped and rushed to the door, running to his teacher's study. Naturally, he cast Greater Haste.

In only a few seconds, Dieppe sat in front of Raventi, waiting for the return of the 'messenger'.

"You're looking forward to it?" Raventi looked at Dieppe carefully.

Dieppe nodded, unable to say anything.

At this time, the cute 'messenger' landed on the desk. Raventi took the letter from it and slowly opened it.

Dieppe read the letter attentively and looked at his teacher's face. If it were not for Raventi's great influence, he would have cast a spell to peek into the letter.

Raventi turned to the last page of the paper. He glanced at it briefly at first, but his face suddenly froze with indescribable solemnity and confusion.

"Sir, what's Mr. Evans' opinion?" After waiting for a while, seeing that his teacher did not respond, Dieppe boldly asked under the urging of his anxiety.

Raventi hummed in acknowledgment as he read out the words one by one. There was a faint tremor in his voice.

"Lucien's opinion is that 'the ingenious hypothesis has shown us another side of the possible existence of electrons. The truth of the world has always been covered by a thick black curtain, making it impossible for us to see what it really looks like. However, this paper may have lifted a corner of the curtain and revealed part of the truth … '"

Before Dieppe finished his teacher's words, his head was humming and dizzy. He knew that Mr. Evans would agree with him, but he did not know that it would be such a high evaluation:

"Lifting a corner of the curtain that covers the truth of the world …"

Dieppe's mind was filled with ecstasy. Being acknowledged by an authoritative figure would make anyone who worked hard feel the same way. However, after a short while, the calmness of a sorcerer brought him back to himself. He said subconsciously, "We still need experiments to prove it."

Raventi nodded in satisfaction and continued reading, "… I'm willing to believe that the wave-particle duality can be extended to all microscopic particles. This is the solution to the long-lasting war between the wave theory and the particle theory. However, even the most amazing hypothesis and the rigorous deduction based on it must be confirmed with phenomena and experiment results. After all, it is not a simple mathematical model. I suggest that you publish the paper immediately and submit it to the arcanists of the school of electromagnetism. Let everyone pay attention to your extraordinary work and devote themselves to the relevant experiments. "

"Mr. Evans' opinion is very good. I have no objection!" The anxiety on Dieppe's face was long gone. His back was straight, and his voice was trembling in excitement.

Raventi, on the other hand, looked at Lucien's opinion in his hand and asked in confusion:

"Electrons are waves?"
