Chapter 819

Report

The chubby captain had a benevolent countenance and a good temper, but it was evident that the people on the mining spaceship were all afraid of him.

It was not because of the large broadsword that was trimming his fingernails elegantly.

He seldom killed people in Chaotian, and he seldom met anybody; but everybody respected and feared him, like what he was doing now.

After leaving the bamboo chair, Cao Yuan headed to the place with the most stars without hesitation. As a result, he met the humans of the Federation of the Milky Way earlier than Jian Xilai.

It was probably because the mining spaceships were the most common in the universe. Coincidentally, his first contact with the civilization of the Federation of the Milky Way was the same.

What happened next was completely different from what happened to Jian Xilai.

The mining spaceship he encountered was very old. It was bought by more than twenty miners who wanted to make a fortune through crowdfunding. Unexpectedly, the miners didn't expect that the ores they had mined with their life savings would be robbed by the space pirates.

The miners were in a hopeless situation. Some of them were even ready to become space pirates out of anger and despair.

Cao Yuan couldn't bear listening to them anymore. He squeezed out from the door of the mining cabin and started to persuade the others not to do so.

The people on the mining spaceship were startled, wondering where this chubby man came from.

A few ruthless guys thought he was a thief and were about to kill him with their weapons.

The result was predictable.

Cao Yuan didn't resort to violence. He was still persuading the others patiently. It didn't take long before he managed to convince all of them.

Of course, everybody, including Cao Yuan, knew that the real reason was his prowess. … …

The mining spaceship returned to a transportation base.

It was unclear how Cao Yuan had convinced a mining company to let this old mining spaceship dock with them.

From that day on, this old mining spaceship had been traveling between the No. 3 Forward Base and the neighboring mining planets.

Mining was always a dangerous job. Even though the No. 3 Forward Base had attracted the attention of the whole Federation of the Milky Way, the conflicts couldn't be prevented. How did they determine the order of mining after the explosion on the surface of the mining planet, the order of leaving the planet, and the position of the shelter dock when the storm occurred?

It was by force of course.

Cao Yuan was a chubby man with a strong force.

He also had a large broadsword of half a meter long.

Gradually, nobody dared bully this old mining spaceship anymore. He had won the respect of his colleagues, and his prestige was so high that he had no choice but to be the captain.

… … The dilapidated mining boat landed in the No. 3 forward base. Twenty miners greeted Cao Yuan obediently and ran toward the living quarters while yelling and yelling.

The company's annual mission had been completed. From tomorrow onward, all the harvest from the mining ship would belong to them. How could they not be happy when they thought about the endless wealth and the wine and women waiting for them in the living area?

Cao Yuan let out a smile, saying nothing. He needed to uphold the precepts, but that didn't mean he had to forbid others.

He circled around the mining ship with the knife and repaired all the parts that needed to be repaired.

The iron knife could be used to trim nails, and it could also be used to repair ships. With his strength and foresight, it was more reliable than any automatic repair mechanical arm.

After doing these things, he walked towards the forest.

This planet was really a bit special. Green trees towered into the sky. They were hundreds of feet tall, and they covered the entire planet. It was an extremely spectacular sight.

Other than these green trees, there were not many other forms of life on this planet. It was unknown how such a monotonous biological system appeared and how it was maintained.

The Science Academy of the Federation hadn't been able to ascertain whether this planet had been modified by the distant ancient civilization. The scientists had many conjectures, but they hadn't reached a conclusion yet.

Cao Yuan didn't live in the living quarters. He built a house for himself in the forest.

He was used to living alone, and there were many things in his house that were inconvenient for others to see.

Accompanied by the buzzing sound of the generator, he took a bath and ate two fruits. After resting for three minutes with his eyes closed, he resumed his daily routine for the night.

Seven computers were turned on at the same time. The light screens were almost stacked together, with countless words and data flashing on them.

Cao Yuan sat on the floor cross-legged with the iron knife on his knees, his hands forming a lotus bridge. He looked at the light screens calmly, as if he were in a trance.

The first thing the ascendants did after leaving Chaotian and coming to this world was to study.

Then, they kept on studying.

Different from Jing Jiu and Jian Xilai, Cao Yuan had only learned about the general situation of this civilization in the first few days, and then he paid attention to other aspects.

It was not the battleships and weapons of the military, or how to kill and defend effectively, or how to conceal oneself; it was … the Sea of Dark Matter.

The humans in this world were the same as those in Chaotian.

The monsters of the Sea of Dark Matter, or the heavenly demons of the outside world, were the enemies of the humans, as well as his enemies.

He had guarded the wind and snow by himself for hundreds of years in Chaotian, and he would make the same choice here.

After he had mastered the knowledge of the network, he had spent all his time and energy on it. It was no exaggeration to say that he knew more about the monsters of the Sea of Dark Matter than he did about the Federation of the Milky Way.

The more he knew about them, the stranger he found it. He always felt those dark monsters full of destructive intent were somewhat familiar.

One day, he suddenly had a conjecture, but he couldn't confirm it yet.

It was then that the alarm suddenly rang out. It passed through the formation he had set up and reached his ears.

He walked out of the small house with the iron knife in his hand. He took one step out of the small house and another step out of the forest.

The night sky was illuminated by a high-power lamp, and a dreadful scene was displayed.

Countless black tentacles were wriggling in the sky a few thousand meters above the ground, looking like seaweed or whips.

The black tentacles were more dreadful than anything else in the world. They seemed to be able to cut open the space and cut the distant starlight into pieces.

A mining spaceship returning from a mineral planet was entangled by the tentacles and broke apart instantly. The crew members on the spaceship had all turned into bloody foam, falling down from the sky.

This was the infection of the Sea of Dark Matter.

Cao Yuan leapt up in the air and arrived in the night sky before the defensive weapon system of the base could react.

The starlight shone brighter on his head.

The iron knife swung down.

There was a soft clank sound.

The slain monster turned into a stiff, leather-like object and dropped down from the sky, on the verge of destroying a building.

The knife light appeared again and cut the monster into pieces. Pah!!!

Pah!!! A dreadful rainstorm fell down in the living quarters.

Cao Yuan landed on a big tree and looked at the ocean of trees around him. His ears twitched slightly as he heard the rustling in the distance, thinking that this planet was indeed problematic.

He found it odd when he came to the No. 3 Forward Base and found the ocean of trees here.

He couldn't tell why, but he had a bad feeling about it.

As expected, the monsters of the Sea of Dark Matter had appeared here.

As he was about to enter the forest to kill those monsters, a person appeared on the top of a large tree one thousand feet away.

He was a gentle middle-aged man, wearing a pair of silver-rimmed glasses and a fitting formal dress, exuding a certain aura.

Cao Yuan was quite familiar with this aura; it was the aura of a scholar. He had seen it many times in the scholars of Yimaozhai.

"It's remarkable that you can kill a target of the third level with one swing of the broadsword. After coming to the new world, you don't think about protecting yourself but saving others; it's even more remarkable."

The middle-aged man continued with a faint smile while pushing up his glasses, "That's why you can enter the last test directly. Let me introduce myself. I'm your test taker."

Cao Yuan knew that there were ascendants in the Federation of the Milky Way.

He didn't think of finding them, because he knew that they should be able to find their way here.

He understood the meaning of the test, so he had no objection to it. Yet, it was not the right time to do so.

The rustling in the forest grew closer, and the surprised screams and sounds of weapons could be heard in the living quarters.

"Let's kill those monsters first."

Cao Yuan was about to enter the forest with the iron broadsword in his hand. He thought that the other person was a swordsman of this world and should be more familiar with the defense system of the military, so he left the living quarters to him.

"Wait a minute."

The middle-aged man said, "The invasion is not large this time, but it'll take us a whole night to kill them. I have to go to the Yinhai Nebula; I don't have time."

Cao Yuan turned to him, wondering if this highly achieved cultivator of the previous generation had a better idea.

The middle-aged man pushed up his glasses and said, "Let me do it."

No sooner had he said this than hundreds of round beads the size of fingernails floated up from his body and shot out in all directions at an unimaginable speed, making a dreadful sound.

Those round beads were translucent, with a faint red color on their surfaces. They didn't have a bloody smell, but looked rather beautiful.

For some reason, Cao Yuan felt uncomfortable looking at these red beads. Pah!!!

Pah!!! Pah!!! The faint cracking sounds rang out in the forest and in the living quarters not far away.

Countless bands of fog rose up and joined together, covering the forest of dozens of square kilometers.

The living quarters were also shrouded by the fog.

It was evident that it was not the effect of the night wind.

The fog suddenly turned redder after encountering the starlight, looking like fresh blood.

Dozens of huge trees had been infected by the darkness and were in the process of turning into monsters. As soon as they encountered the bloody fog, they lost all of their vitality and turned into stiff dead objects.

What about the people in the living quarters?

The screams and screams vanished. There was no sound at all, save for the friction of the base of the automatic weapon platform.

… …

… …

The dead were everywhere on the street.

The dead were everywhere in the bar as well.

A young man, his clothes full of oil stains, was lying on top of a prostitute, his face full of bewilderment. His body was as stiff as a rock, his face stiff.

"If I have to die, I'd rather die on top of a woman."

Seeing this scene, Cao Yuan thought of the remark he had heard on the mining spaceship a few days ago, curling up the corners of his mouth, flashing a faint smile.

In the street filled with corpses and blood mist, this smile was eerie no matter how one looked at it.

The middle-aged man walked to the table of the teahouse and took out a piece of tissue. "What's wrong?" he asked while wiping his glasses.

"Nothing." Cao Yuan shook his head while holding the hilt of the iron broadsword.

… …

… …

(I wish everybody a happy New Year. If you don't have any troubles and don't seek troubles, you won't be afraid of troubles when troubles come to you. Of course, you should avoid them as much as possible.
