Chapter 2258

Spring passed and autumn came. Time flew by quietly like quicksand between one's fingers.
In the wilderness of the Middle Realm, a group of scavengers were working with their backs hunched as leather whips danced in the air. Palaces were being built in the Middle Realm and the oppressive and heavy atmosphere shrouded the entire Middle Realm.
The scorching sun hung high above their heads and the rolling heat waves seemed to evaporate every single drop of water in the people's bodies. After toiling day and night, the ragged and tattered labourers finally had a moment of rest. Under the impatient gazes of the supervisors holding the whips in their hands, the weary bodies trembled as they walked to the palaces that were half built and sat down on the ground. The stone bricks beneath them had become boiling hot under the scorching sun and even though they were separated by a thin layer, it still made people feel uncomfortable as if they were sitting on pins and needles.
But now, the labourers who had finally gotten a moment of rest did not show the slightest bit of disgust. Instead, they all heaved a sigh of relief and sat down. No matter if it was the scorching sun hanging high above their heads or the unbearably hot stone bricks beneath them, they did not have the heart to care about it. Even if it was just letting them rest for a moment, to them, it was already a luxurious "enjoyment".
A youth with a simple and honest face sat upon the stone bricks, holding a worn-out goatskin water bag in his hand. He casually poured a mouthful of water into his mouth and the cold water seemed to have slightly dispelled the scorching heat of the scorching sun.
"Sigh ….. when will these days come to an end." A middle-aged man at the side sighed dejectedly. His clothes were tattered and dirty and his hands were filled with calluses. He was only middle-aged but his temples were already grey and his face was covered with the marks of time. Compared to his actual age, it was a huge difference.
"Uncle Liu, once the palaces are finished, will we be able to go home?" He wasn't old and didn't look like an adult, but he still had to work hard like everyone else. It wasn't for the meager income, but to protect his own life.
The middle-aged man looked around at his companions. The palace had been built for several months, and there were more than a thousand people involved in the construction. However, after a few months, there were only a few hundred left. More than half of them could not bear the burden and had either fallen ill or collapsed from exhaustion. Those who had lost the ability to move did not receive any treatment at all. They were just casually thrown on the weeds by the overseers. They were still exposed to the wind and sun, and even their food and water supply had been cut off. They could only wait for their lives to end in despair and pain.
Five years ago, no one would have thought that the Middle Realm would become like this. After the Twelve Palaces were destroyed, the Middle Realm welcomed a short period of peace. But that peace had only lasted for a year.
A year later, a real nightmare descended on the entire Three Middle Realms.
The Spirit Jade Palace suddenly evaporated from the Middle Realm and the Nine Temples suddenly flew into a rage and took over the entire Middle Realm. It was from that moment onwards that the people of the Middle Realm finally understood what tyranny was!
The Nine Temples had almost unified all the powers in the Middle Realm. They controlled every piece of land in the Middle Realm and even three of the four sides were suppressed by the Nine Temples. Only the fleeting Spirit World seemed to have disappeared from the Middle Realm.
The Nine Temples took over the Middle Realm and became the golden age of the Dark Regions. But if everyone had a choice, they would rather submit to the Dark Regions!
