She whistled and the little purple bird flew back into her palm. It was very obedient.
"Big Sister Ling 'er, can I pet it?" Seeing this, Li Yaoyao quickly returned to Han Ling 'er's side and spoke with an envious tone.
"Of course, this Purple Cloud Sparrow was originally meant for you. I'm sure you know about the Spirit Beast Master Recognition Ceremony, so I won't say much." Han Ling 'er nodded and handed the Purple Cloud Sparrow to Li Yaoyao.
Li Yaoyao carefully took the Purple Cloud Sparrow with an excited expression.
At the same time, the auction on the first floor had already ended and the free exchange segment had begun.
A tall and thin old man with a gloomy expression walked onto the stage. Without wasting any words, he flipped his hand and took out a yellow piece of wood as thick as an adult's calf.
The tall and thin old man swept his gaze over the cultivators below and loudly shouted, "One hundred year old Yellow Pear Wood, an excellent material for refining wood attribute defensive magic tools. I want to exchange it for three hundred year old fire attribute spirit medicines or seven hundred spirit stones."
Hearing this, several cultivators walked onto the stage one after another and whispered a few words to the tall and thin old man. Afterwards, they each took out several items for the tall and thin old man to see.
In the end, a yellow-robed Daoist Priest used an exceptionally fine brocade box to exchange for the piece of one hundred year old Yellow Pear Wood.
After completing the exchange, the tall and thin old man walked off the stage with satisfaction. A middle-aged man near the stage stood up and was about to walk towards the stage.
An azure light flashed from the stage and a cultivator wearing an azure cloak appeared. He clearly noticed the middle-aged man and cupped his hands in greeting, "Fellow Daoist, how about you allow me to exchange first?" His voice was extremely sharp and made those who heard it feel extremely uncomfortable. It was very likely that he was using a falsetto to speak.
Although the middle-aged man was somewhat displeased, since the other party was standing on the stage, the middle-aged man couldn't make him leave and could only helplessly nod.
"Fellow Daoists should all know about the Foundation Establishment Pill!" The cloaked cultivator didn't immediately take out the item to exchange. Instead, he swept his gaze over the many Foundation Establishment cultivators in the hall and mysteriously asked.
"What? Foundation Establishment Pill? Fellow Daoist, do you have such an item? "A cultivator's expression changed upon hearing this. The other cultivators' reactions weren't much better. Even the Family Li cultivator who had been presiding over the auction had a change in expression. There were even a few cultivators who looked at him with ill intentions.
Hearing the words of the cloaked cultivator on the stage, Wang Changsheng was also curious. After a cultivator reaches the ninth level of qi refining, they can attempt to break through to the foundation building stage. Foundation building is actually the process of transforming the mana in one's body from a gaseous state to a liquid state, thus increasing the amount of mana in one's body by more than ten times. This process is incomparably difficult. Who knows how many cultivators have been stuck at this juncture, ultimately turning into a pile of bones.
Under these circumstances, a certain almighty cultivator refined a type of supplementary pill that could increase the success rate of a cultivator's foundation building. This was the origin of the Foundation Establishment Pill.
If a Qi Condensation cultivator could take a Foundation Establishment Pill when they were breaking through to Foundation Establishment, it could increase their chances of breaking through to Foundation Establishment by thirty to forty percent. Because of this, every Qi Condensation cultivator desired a Foundation Establishment Pill when they were breaking through to Foundation Establishment.
Of course, it wasn't only the Foundation Establishment Pill that could be used to reach the foundation building stage. There were also other methods to reach the foundation building stage. However, compared to cultivators who used Foundation Establishment Pills to reach the foundation building stage, there were very few. At the very least, Wang Changsheng had never heard of anyone successfully reaching the foundation building stage without using a Foundation Establishment Pill.
With the miraculous effect of increasing one's chances of reaching the foundation building stage, the spirit medicines used to refine the Foundation Establishment Pill were naturally not ordinary spirit medicines. These spirit medicines were mainly controlled by large cultivation sects, and the Foundation Establishment Pills refined from them were rarely circulated. From this, it could be seen how precious the Foundation Establishment Pill was.
If one were to possess a Foundation Establishment Pill, it was possible to add another Foundation Establishment Expert to one's family. Even Wang Huayuan was staring at the cloaked cultivator with a fiery expression.
The cloaked cultivator was clearly very satisfied with the reactions of the Foundation Establishment Cultivators. He nodded his head and said, "That's not it. However, I have a four hundred year old Violet Monkey Flower. This is one of the main ingredients used to refine the Foundation Establishment Pill." Finished speaking, his black robe shook and an exquisite jade box appeared on the wooden table.
Opening the jade box, there was a small purple flower that was about an inch long. The petals of the small flower were curled in the same direction, forming a shape that resembled a monkey's head.
Seeing this small purple flower, several Foundation Establishment Cultivators who were sitting at the back stood up. Some of them even took out a jade slip and placed it on their foreheads to look at the ancient records.
Not long after, these people withdrew their consciousness from the jade slip and looked at the small purple flower with a fiery gaze. It was clear that the cloaked cultivator wasn't lying.
Just look at it.
Chapter 33: Foundation Establishment
Exposed
"A four hundred year old Violet Monkey Flower in exchange for a top-grade defensive magic tool," the cloaked cultivator loudly said to the cultivators below the high platform. 【..】
After hearing the cloaked cultivator's words, the expressions of the Foundation Establishment Cultivators below the high platform turned ugly. Defensive magic tools required a lot of materials and required a lot of time to refine. Furthermore, they were also very difficult to refine. Only skilled tool refiners were able to refine them. Defensive magic tools were even rarer than flying magic tools. This could be seen from the fact that only a single mid-grade defensive magic tool had appeared in this auction.
When Li Tianxing heard this, he frowned. Most of the defensive magic tools on the market were low-grade and mid-grade. Occasionally, there would be a high-grade one, but it would be quickly bought at a high price. His Family Li had been established for nearly a thousand years and had possessed a single top-grade defensive magic tool. However, it was treated as a family heirloom and would not be easily shown to others. But then again, even if someone could take out a top-grade defensive magic tool, his Family Li definitely wouldn't allow them to leave this place safely. Li Tianxing didn't know what this person was relying on to dare exchange for a top-grade defensive magic tool in front of so many people.
The cultivators below the high platform didn't open their mouths for a long time. Some of them even revealed an expression of watching a good show. Although the main ingredient used to refine the Foundation Establishment Pill was very precious, compared to a top-grade defensive magic tool, it wasn't much. Only a fool would make such a loss-making deal.
Seeing this, the cloaked cultivator's face revealed a trace of disappointment. However, he had also expected this situation. After looking around, he sighed and said, "If you don't have a top-grade defensive magic tool, a high-grade defensive magic tool is also fine. However, you will need at least two. If you only have one, then you will need to pay spirit stones to make up for it."
Hearing this, the expressions of some of the Foundation Establishment Cultivators relaxed. Even if they couldn't take out two high-grade defensive magic tools, they could still take out one.
Just as the cloaked cultivator finished speaking, someone walked forward and whispered a few words to him through voice transmission.
Perhaps it was because this person's item was too inferior, but the cloaked cultivator shook his head and refused the trade.
Following this, more and more people came forward to send voice transmissions, but none of them succeeded.
In the end, the auctioneer, Li Tianxing, walked up to the high platform and directly threw a storage pouch to the cloaked cultivator in exchange for the Violet Monkey Flower.
Due to the appearance of the Foundation Establishment Spirit Medicine, the atmosphere in the hall became more lively. The Foundation Establishment Cultivators present walked up to the high platform one after another to exchange for items. Those who successfully exchanged for what they needed were happy, while those who failed were disappointed. It was worth mentioning that the Family Li Foundation Establishment Cultivator who had a grudge against Wang Huayuan used an ore called Illusory Yang Stone to successfully exchange for a high-grade offensive magic tool.
This auction was jointly organized by the Family Li, Family Li, and Family Li. Naturally, there would be no lack of Foundation Establishment Cultivators from the three families. As the representative of the Family Li, Li Tianxing took out a three-hundred-year-old Illusory Heart Grass to exchange for a two-hundred-year-old water-attribute spirit medicine. Unfortunately, the trade wasn't successful.
At this time, standing on the high platform was an old woman who was nearing her sixties. She was the Foundation Establishment Cultivator of the Song Family. The two beauties of the Song Family stood to one side, each holding a two-meter-long black claw. There was a lot of black hair on the claw, which looked a bit disgusting.
"Two sharp claws of a first-grade peak-rank Xuan Ming Spider, an excellent material for making offensive magic tools. I want to exchange them for a hundred-year-old Purple Threaded Wood or a refining material of the same value." The old woman's voice was a bit hoarse, but everyone present heard it clearly.
"Demonic beast material," Wang Changsheng muttered to himself when he saw this. In addition to various metals and ores, demonic beast parts were also good refining materials. However, not all demonic beast parts could be used to refine tools. A first-grade peak-rank demonic beast was equivalent to a cultivator at the tenth layer of Qi Refinement and could be considered a good refining material. With two sharp claws, it wouldn't be a problem to refine a high-grade offensive magic tool. If you found a good refining master, it wouldn't be impossible to refine a top-grade offensive magic tool.
While Wang Changsheng was deep in thought, several Foundation Establishment Cultivators approached the high platform and asked through voice transmission. Among them was Wang Huayuan.
Wang Huayuan tossed a storage pouch to the old woman from the Song Family and moved his lips a few times.
The old woman opened the storage pouch and glanced inside. Her expression was a bit hesitant. After a moment of silence, she replied through voice transmission.
It was unknown what the old woman said, but Wang Huayuan immediately turned around, looked at Wang Changsheng, and transmitted his voice to him.
"Do you have three hundred Spirit Stones on you? Anything of the same value is fine."
In response to the Ancestor's voice transmission, Wang Changsheng didn't dare to be negligent. He quickly replied, "Ancestor, I don't have that many Spirit Stones, but I do have a few dozen low-grade talismans. They are worth three hundred Spirit Stones."
After he finished speaking, Wang Changsheng felt a bit lucky. Fortunately, he had listened to Third Uncle's advice and made a batch of Fire Serpent Talismans. Otherwise, he wouldn't know how to answer the Ancestor.
"That's great. Quickly give it to me." After he finished speaking, Wang Huayuan's eyes flashed with joy.
Hearing this, Wang Changsheng quickly walked towards the high platform and handed his storage pouch to Wang Huayuan.
Wang Huayuan didn't hesitate. He took out a thick stack of talismans from Wang Changsheng's storage pouch and handed it to the old woman from the Song Family.
To a Foundation Establishment Cultivator, a few dozen low-grade talismans weren't much. However, to the two beauties of the Song Family who were still in the Qi Condensation Stage, this wasn't a small amount. The voluptuous woman from the Song Family couldn't help but look at Wang Changsheng a few more times. Her eyes flashed with surprise.
Unfortunately, Wang Changsheng's back was facing the woman from the Song Family and he didn't realize that she was looking at him a few more times. Otherwise, he would be very happy.
The old woman from the Song Family glanced at the talismans in her hand and nodded, indicating that the two women should give the talismans to Wang Huayuan.
After putting the two claws into his storage pouch, Wang Huayuan happily returned to his seat with Wang Changsheng.
When they returned to their seats, the young scholar from the Family Li and the middle-aged Daoist Priest from the Huang Family congratulated Wang Huayuan. Huang Qiping and the round-faced woman from the Family Li looked at Wang Changsheng with a strange gaze. Wang Changsheng's age and cultivation were lower than theirs, but he was able to take out a few dozen low-grade talismans. It was inevitable that they wouldn't let their imaginations run wild.
The last person to go on stage was a somewhat hunchbacked yellow-robed old man. The yellow-robed old man took out a three-hundred-year-old Red Phosphorus Fruit in exchange for a top-grade water attribute magic tool. Unfortunately, the deal wasn't reached.
Thus, the auction that was held once every fifty years came to an end. Wang Changsheng followed his family's ancestor and left the place, heading towards the Immortal Gathering Residence.
Along the way, Wang Huayuan chatted and laughed with his two friends, clearly in a very good mood. Wang Changsheng and the other two juniors obediently followed behind.
"Wang Daoyou, if I didn't guess wrong, your Immortal Gathering Residence's talismans were made by your clan's grandson!" When they reached a corner, the middle-aged Daoist Priest glanced at Wang Changsheng from the corner of his eye and praised him.
Although he was in seclusion all year round, that didn't mean he was completely ignorant of the outside world. He had long heard from his clan that the Immortal Gathering Residence's business was booming. In this regard, he was somewhat curious as to who the talisman master of the Immortal Gathering Residence was. He even suspected that it was his friend who had made the talisman, but now it seemed that the talisman master was someone else.
Hearing this, the young scholar turned his head to look at Wang Changsheng, his eyes filled with curiosity.
"Fellow Daoist Huang is joking. Changsheng only knows a little about talisman crafting. I don't deserve such praise." Wang Huayuan shook his head and said modestly. He was well aware of Wang Changsheng's value to his clan. Even if they had been friends for many years, he didn't want to reveal the slightest bit.
Thinking of this, he was somewhat regretful. If he hadn't taken out several dozen talismans from his junior's storage pouch in front of everyone, others wouldn't have known that he could craft talismans. However, as long as he didn't admit it, others couldn't do anything to him.
Seeing this, the middle-aged Daoist Priest didn't pursue the matter. At the intersection, he separated from Wang Huayuan and walked towards his clan's shop.
The young scholar also left, but his attitude wasn't as good as the middle-aged Daoist Priest's. Wang Huayuan didn't mind and brought Wang Changsheng back to the Immortal Gathering Residence.
The middle-aged Daoist Priest didn't dare to neglect and hurriedly followed.
After leaving the market, Wang Changsheng was surprised to find that Huang Yu and Huang Qiping were also at the market's entrance. They seemed to have been waiting here in advance.
Seeing Wang Zhangxue, Huang Qiping's face lit up. However, due to the presence of the elders, he didn't dare to say anything. He only smiled and nodded.
Out of politeness, Wang Zhangxue also smiled back. Fortunately, Wang Zhangxue didn't notice Huang Qiping's small movements.
Not long after, the young scholar from the Family Li also came out with a few juniors.
Although flying within five li of the market was prohibited, this rule was only applied to Qi Condensation cultivators. Foundation Establishment cultivators were not restricted. As long as they didn't cause any trouble, the manager of the market would turn a blind eye to it.
"Old Ghost Li, why are you so slow!" Wang Huayuan said somewhat impatiently.
This time, the young scholar didn't refute. He said somewhat apologetically to Huang Yu, "I was delayed for a moment. Fellow Daoist Huang, please forgive me."
"The three of us have been friends for so many years. There's no harm in waiting for a moment." Huang Yu shook his head and didn't mind. He took out a square brocade handkerchief from his sleeve and threw it in front of him.
The square brocade handkerchief expanded in the wind. In the blink of an eye, it grew to twenty meters long and floated in front of everyone.
"Hehe, with Fellow Daoist Huang's Yellow Spirit Handkerchief, it will be much more convenient for us to return." When Wang Huayuan saw the square brocade handkerchief, he immediately chuckled.
"Hehe, it's only a low-grade flight magic tool. Wang Daoyou is too kind." Although he said this, Huang Yu's eyes flashed with a trace of pride.
When Wang Changsheng and the other juniors heard this, they couldn't help but stare at the huge brocade handkerchief in front of them.
Was this the rumored flight magic tool? This was the first time they had seen it.
"Alright, alright. Let's not waste time on pleasantries. Let's hurry up and set off! Old Man still has matters to attend to! " The young scholar interrupted the two with an impatient expression. After he finished speaking, he took the lead and jumped onto the brocade handkerchief.
Huang Yu didn't mind this and faintly smiled at Wang Huayuan before following him.
After the three Foundation Establishment Stage cultivators left, Wang Changsheng and the other juniors walked carefully.
After Huang Yu waited for everyone to leave the brocade handkerchief, he made a gesture with one hand. A layer of pale yellow light curtain emerged and covered the entire brocade handkerchief.
Then Huang Yu launched a few symbols at the brocade handkerchief, making it slowly rise into the air. He said, "Let's go."
The brocade handkerchief immediately trembled and flew away. Its speed was so fast that Wang Changsheng, who was standing in front of it, almost fell down.
Fortunately, Huang Qiping was standing in front of him. Wang Changsheng stretched out a hand and put it on Huang Qiping's shoulder.
Huang Qiping turned around and saw Wang Changsheng. He smiled at him and didn't care.
Wang Changxue and Wang Changyue supported each other to stand firm.
After standing firm, Wang Changsheng looked around curiously. At this time, the brocade handkerchief was actually hundreds of feet high in the air and moving forward quickly. The mountain range below them had turned into small black and green dots, making it impossible to see anything clearly.
In less than half an incense stick's time, the square brocade handkerchief stopped and slowly fell to the ground. Wang Changsheng looked and saw that it was the Demon Subduing Mountain where his family was located.
Below the brocade handkerchief, there were dozens of figures moving. Obviously, the Wang family's cultivators had also discovered them.
The square brocade handkerchief slowly landed in an open space. The light curtain on its surface suddenly dissipated and disappeared. Wang Changsheng and the others walked down.
"Fellow Huang, Old Li, let's meet again next time." Wang Huayuan cupped his hands and said to Huang Yu and the young scholar.
The young scholar snorted softly and didn't say anything.
"Goodbye." Huang Yu smiled slightly and made a gesture with one hand. The brocade handkerchief slowly rose again and quickly flew in another direction.
Chapter 36
Selection
"Welcome, Ancestor." Wang Ming Yuan walked forward and respectfully shouted. Seeing Wang Changsheng behind Wang Huayuan, his eyes showed a touch of joy. [Full text read …]
The Wang family's elders behind Wang Ming Yuan also shouted. Some of the elders saw Wang Changsheng and their eyes flashed with a touch of surprise.
Wang Huayuan just responded and strode toward the manor. Wang Ming Yuan and the others hurriedly followed.
Wang Changsheng and the other two also returned to their rooms. Not long after, Wang Changsheng returned to his courtyard. Strangely, the guards outside the courtyard withdrew.
Wang Changsheng didn't care too much and opened the door. Seeing everything familiar in the room, he couldn't help but sigh in relief. Sure enough, home was the most comfortable.
After closing the door, Wang Changsheng took out the black python egg. After returning home, he naturally had to hatch this spirit beast egg.
Wang Changsheng took out hundreds of spirit stones from his storage bag and piled them in the corner of the room, forming a small pile of spirit stones. He placed the spirit beast egg on top of the spirit stones.
Then, he bit his left thumb and dripped a few drops of essence blood on the spirit beast egg.
After doing all this, Wang Changsheng's face was slightly pale. According to the woman surnamed Han, the spirit beast egg would hatch when it absorbed enough spirit energy. Fortunately, he still had hundreds of spirit stones, so he didn't have to worry about the spirit stones. He just had to wait quietly.
After a short rest, Wang Changsheng left the room and went to Wutong Garden.
There were several guards outside Wutong Garden, but Wang Changsheng didn't care and directly rushed in. The guards recognized Wang Changsheng and didn't stop him.
Wang Changsheng walked into Wutong Garden and went straight to the study. Wang Ming Yuan was writing something at the desk. Next to him stood a middle-aged man who seemed to be waiting for something.
Seeing this, Wang Changsheng sat down on a stool and waited quietly.
After a while, Wang Ming Yuan put down his pen and handed a letter to the middle-aged man beside him, giving him a few words of advice.
Taking the letter, the middle-aged man turned and left.
"You just came back. Why don't you rest more?" Wang Ming Yuan smiled at Wang Changsheng and said. Anyone could hear the concern in his words.
"Anyway, I have nothing to do. By the way, Father, about the talisman technique I told you about last time, how is the discussion between you and Grandfather going?" Wang Changsheng said with some eagerness.
The reason why Immortal Wang was so enthusiastic about promoting the art of talismans to the entire clan was, of course, also because of his own selfish motives. If he could nurture talisman crafting talents, then firstly, it would reduce his workload, and secondly, he would have time to research even more powerful talismans.
In the beginning, Wang Changsheng had only learned how to craft talismans to earn spirit stones. But slowly, Wang Changsheng found that he really liked drawing all kinds of talismans. Seeing the originally blank talisman paper turn into all kinds of talismans through his own hands, a sense of pride welled up in him.
In addition, Wang Changsheng was tired of the few kinds of talismans that he often drew. He wanted to draw more kinds of talismans. He only knew how to draw the Fire Snake Talisman out of the nine talismans. This was the result of his research for several days. In other words, he needed more time to learn how to draw other kinds of talismans.
"Do you know that the number one cultivation Family Li sent people to our Wang Family?" Wang Ming Yuan didn't answer Wang Changsheng's question. Instead, he said something unrelated.
"I know, I heard the ancestor mention it."
"That's good. Sheng 'er, remember, if someone asks you how you can make so many kinds of talismans, just say that you learned it from an expert. You don't know the origin of the expert, do you understand?" Wang Ming Yuan instructed with a dignified face.
"Understood." Although he wasn't very clear about the meaning of his father's words, Wang Changsheng still agreed. In any case, his father wouldn't harm him.
Seeing this, Wang Ming Yuan nodded with satisfaction and said, "Father knows that it is really tiring for you to make so many talismans every day. I've discussed the matter of promoting the talisman technique with your grandfather and he doesn't object. In addition, the ancestor also praised your approach. The problem now is the problem of choosing people. Tell Father, how do you plan to choose people to learn talisman making from the whole family?"
Hearing this, Wang Changsheng nodded and said, "Yes, Father, I plan to choose people under the age of thirty who are above the sixth layer of qi refining. First, let them …"
One day later, dozens of Wang Clan disciples gathered in the teaching hall. If one observed carefully, they would find that the average age of these people was around twenty years old, and there were both men and women.
"Changming, why are you here? I remember that you're in charge of taking care of a mu of spiritual farmland?"
"Hey, Fifth Uncle, you're here too? I didn't know! The Clan Leader sent someone to call me here. "
"Me too."
"I wonder why the Clan Leader has gathered so many of us together. Could it be that he wants to rearrange the clan's affairs?" Someone secretly guessed.
Hearing this, the Wang Clan disciples present began to discuss. There were all kinds of discussions. Some said that the Clan Leader was rearranging the clan's affairs, while others said that the Clan Leader was giving a lecture.
What no one noticed was that the handsome young man sitting at the head of the table had an ugly expression on his face when he heard these discussions. This young man was Wang Changsheng's eldest son, Wang Changchen, and Wang Changsheng's third brother.
His father had just been transferred away, and Second Uncle had called him here. It was definitely not a good thing. Perhaps he was going to make a move on him, Wang Zhangchen secretly speculated. Of course, he was referring to the assignment of some bitter and tiring clan affairs, not the intention of killing him. Even so, it made him anxious and uneasy.
Some clan affairs were hard and tiring, and some might even lead to certain punishments. Wang Changchen didn't want to suffer from this. He decided that if his Second Uncle assigned him such clan affairs, he would go to the market square and ask his father for help.
Just as Wang Changchen was thinking nonsense, Wang Li, who was usually in charge of giving lectures, appeared in front of everyone.
"Third Uncle is here."
"I told you that the Clan Leader was giving a lecture! But isn't this a voluntary participation? Why does the Clan Leader need to call for me? "
Seeing this, Wang Changchen's eyes flashed with confusion. However, he did not say anything and sat quietly on the side.
"Quiet, everyone quiet down." Seeing that the scene was a bit chaotic, Wang Li frowned and shouted.
Hearing this, everyone immediately shut their mouths. It could be seen that Wang Li's prestige among the younger generation of the Wang Clan was high.
Wang Li nodded in satisfaction. He glanced at everyone and said mysteriously, "Do you all want to learn the art of talisman crafting? Personally taught by an experienced talisman master? "
"Learn talisman crafting? Personally taught by a talisman master? I didn't hear wrong, did I? "
"I'm not dreaming, right? There's actually someone teaching us talisman crafting? "
Everyone immediately started discussing. Most of them were full of joy when they heard this news. The Clan Leader had also talked about the art of talisman crafting before, but that was for them to comprehend and learn on their own. He only provided some information. Now it was different. There was a talisman master to guide them.
"You all didn't hear wrong. We're going to teach you how to craft talismans, but not everyone has this qualification. We'll only pick three clansmen who have the talent to craft talismans. Each of them will be given a book containing some five element talismans. Take them back and comprehend them. After three days, gather here again. Those clansmen who are able to draw a talisman won't have to do any clan affairs and can concentrate on learning how to craft talismans. Those who are unable to draw a talisman will continue to do what they were originally doing. Is everyone clear?" After he finished speaking, Wang Li shook his sleeve and dozens of identical books appeared in front of him.
"Yes," everyone replied in unison. They all walked forward and took a book. Not having to do any clan affairs, only an idiot wouldn't be willing to do it!
Wang Changchen also took a book and curiously flipped it open. The book wasn't large and only had a dozen or so pages. Every page had a mysterious pattern. Presumably, this was a talisman!
