"If I had come back when I realized something was wrong, Grandma wouldn't have died, and I wouldn't have been unable to see her for the last time."

Huo Yao buried her head in Min Yu's neck. Her hoarse voice was filled with unconcealed grief.

Min Yu tightened his arms and rested his chin on Huo Yao's head. He said slowly, "It's not your fault. Life goes on. Grandma passed away peacefully."

"No, you don't know. I could have... If I had come back earlier, I might have been able to see her again. It's all my fault," muttered Huo Yao softly.

Min Yu felt a lump in his throat. He said, "Let it out. You won't feel so bad if you let it out."

Huo Yao clenched her fists tightly and leaned against his chest without saying a word.

Min Yu stood quietly at the door with Huo Yao in his arms. He did not seem tired at all.

After some time, Huo Yao suddenly raised her head and plugged in the power card. Instantly, the lights in the room lit up and swept away the darkness.

"I'm a little tired," said Huo Yao as she looked at Min Yu. Her eyes were dull and her face was so pale that it was almost translucent.

Min Yu's heart tightened. He acknowledged her and carried her to the bedroom.

After placing her on the bed, Min Yu pulled the blanket over Huo Yao. Just as he was about to get up, someone tugged at the corner of his shirt.

He turned his head and saw the young lady looking at him helplessly. Min Yu suddenly felt as though his heart was being pierced by a needle.

He sat down on the bed and stroked the stray hair by her cheek. "Go to sleep. I'll stay here with you."

Huo Yao slowly loosened her grip and closed her eyes.

Min Yu waited for Huo Yao's breathing to stabilize before he tucked her in again. Then he got up and left the room.

His phone was on vibrate. Someone was looking for him.

Min Yu took out his phone from his pocket after he walked out to the living room. It was a call from Zhuo Yun. His eyes narrowed and he dialed the number.

Before long, the call went through.

"What did you find out so quickly?" asked Min Yu calmly.

"Nothing. I just got Grandma Yang's medical records from the hospital." Zhuo Yun shook his head and continued. "It's about Miss Huo not getting on the flight today."

Min Yu walked up to the floor-to-ceiling windows and looked out at the city that was already shrouded in darkness. "What happened?"

"I heard that Miss Huo was kidnapped before she boarded the plane, which delayed her return," said Zhuo Yun quickly.

Min Yu narrowed his eyes. "Kidnap? Who did it? "

He knew it. It was impossible for Huo Yao to lose contact with him for no reason.

"I'm not too sure about that either." Actually, Zhuo Yun had gotten this information from Cheng Ming, but Cheng Ming himself wasn't too sure about the specifics.

"Get someone to investigate," said Min Yu in a low voice.

"Yes," replied Zhuo Yun hurriedly. He paused before he asked carefully. "Yu, is Miss Huo okay?"

"She's in a bad state. Get someone to keep an eye on the old lady's funeral," said Min Yu.

Zhuo Yun nodded. "Alright."

Soon, they ended the call and Min Yu returned to his bedroom.

The lights in the bedroom were on. He glanced at Huo Yao before he picked up the laptop from the bedside table. Then he pulled out a chair and sat down by the bed.

He kept Huo Yao company while dealing with work.
