Old Mr. Pei looked at Zhuo Yun and opened his mouth. However, he could not find the words to comfort him.
Since even Huo Yao was helpless, there was nothing he could do.
No one spoke and the living room fell silent. Eventually, the silence was broken by the sound of a phone ringing.
Huo Yao's phone was ringing.
She glanced at the caller ID. It was Liu Gan from school. She stood up and walked to the side hall to answer the call.
Old Mr. Pei only veered his eyes away after Huo Yao left. He looked at Min Yu guiltily. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help much."
Min Yu's lips were expressionless as he said calmly, "Don't blame yourself. It's hard to guard against certain things."
"Don't you have a clue?" asked Old Mr. Pei solemnly.
As mentioned earlier, no illness would break out for no reason, especially Min Yu's hidden illness. It was completely different from any other sudden illness.
"Nope." Min Yu shook his head. He picked up the teacup and gestured for Old Mr. Pei to have some tea. "Thank you for coming all the way here."
Old Mr. Pei waved his hand and smiled bitterly.
"Oh yes, Old Mr. Pei. How did you know that Yu's illness had a relapse?" asked Zhuo Yun as he glanced at Min Yu.
Old Mr. Pei did not hide the truth. "Pei Rong told me. He heard about it at the Medicine Association."
"The Medicine Association?" Zhuo Yun narrowed his eyes.
Min Yu's illness had started during a special mission. It had almost cost him his life, but no one had been able to find the culprit behind it.
Now that Min Yu's recuperated body was showing signs of relapse again, based on Huo Yao's speculation, the culprit must have been itching to make trouble.
Old Mr. Pei nodded. However, Pei Rong had reminded him repeatedly on the way here, so he did not tell him who he had heard the news from.
Zhuo Yun did not probe further after asking a few questions.
He did not want to suspect Old Mr. Pei's character, but he had to be cautious.
They chatted for a while before Huo Yao came back after receiving a call.
Old Mr. Pei started discussing Min Yu's condition with her when he saw her. However, he excused himself after half an hour.
"I'll send you home."
Zhuo Yun stood up to send Old Mr. Pei off.
After replying to Cheng Ming's message, Huo Yao put her phone away. "I need to go back."
Min Yu glanced sideways at Huo Yao. "Are you going to abandon a patient just like that? Does your conscience hurt? "
Huo Yao glanced at him before she stood up and said heartlessly, "I'm sorry. I don't have a conscience."
Min Yu, "..."
"I'm leaving." Huo Yao stopped looking at him. She put her hands in her pockets and walked out unhurriedly.
Cheng Minggang sent her a message saying that Old Wei's movements had been tracked down and that he would send the information and surveillance footage over in a while.
Huo Yao walked slowly back to the house she lived in as her thoughts ran through her mind.
Cheng Ming arrived at the door before she could key in the passcode. He parked his car by the roadside and walked over to Huo Yao.
"Miss," Cheng Ming greeted her respectfully.
"Uncle Cheng." Huo Yao nodded slightly. "Thank you for making the trip."
Cheng Ming shook his head and smiled. He handed a transparent file to Huo Yao with a thumb drive in it. "I only managed to track Mi Wei's movements up to a week ago. I couldn't find anything after that."
It was as though Min Yu had vanished into thin air. Cheng Ming found it odd, so he spent more time investigating.
