Huo Yulin was stunned. He quickly shook his head with an indecipherable look in his eyes. "No, I'm not involved in drug development."

Huo Yao nodded and stood aside. "Brother Yulin, you should get back to work."

Huo Yulin looked at her carefully. Although he was puzzled, he did not probe further since he was in a hurry to leave.

Before long, he heard the door close.

Huo Yao veered her contemplative gaze away and entered the house slowly.

The housekeeper was still cooking, so Huo Yao did not go upstairs. Instead, she sat down at the dining table and took out her phone to text Cheng Ming.

Perhaps Cheng Ming was busy, but he did not reply even after a while.

Huo Yao fiddled with her phone gently. When the housekeeper came out with the dishes, she noticed Huo Yao in a daze and could not help asking her if something had happened.

Huo Yao snapped out of her trance and smiled at the housekeeper.

"Why do you two look so distracted today?" asked the housekeeper casually as she filled Huo Yao's bowl with rice.

Huo Yao's hand paused as she picked up her chopsticks. "Does Huo Yao look... different?"

The housekeeper contemplated before she shook her head. "Not really. But he cares a lot about you and told me to take good care of you."

Huo Yao instinctively frowned. "What else did he say?"

"Nothing. Your brother has always been a man of few words, so that's all he said," said the housekeeper with a smile.

After saying that, she turned around and went back into the kitchen.

Huo Yao's eyes narrowed. She picked up her phone and glanced at it. Cheng Ming still had not replied.

In the past, he would have replied almost immediately after she sent him a message. Huo Yao was deep in thought, so she left the table without eating much.

On her way back to her room, Huo Yao paused when she passed by Huo Yulin's room. Before she could do anything, her phone rang.

Huo Yao snapped out of her trance and quickly picked up the call when she saw Cheng Ming's caller ID.

"Miss Huo, I was in the middle of something and didn't notice your message. How can I help you?" asked Cheng Ming.

Huo Yao went back to her room and closed the door before she asked him. "Do you know where Brother Yulin went?"

Cheng Ming paused for a second as if he was stunned. Then, he said, "Uh … Is Young Master Lin not at home?"

Huo Yao narrowed her eyes. "No."

"You can't reach him by phone either?" Cheng Ming asked.

Huo Yao acknowledged him softly.

"I'll get someone to check it out now." Cheng Ming paused for a moment. "Don't worry, Missy. Nothing should happen to Young Master Lin. Wait for my news."

"Sure," replied Huo Yao bluntly. Her voice was emotionless.

She quickly hung up.

When Cheng Ming heard the sound of the phone being hung up, he finally relaxed a little. He put away his phone and turned to look at Third Young Master who was sitting on the sofa. "It's hard to hide it from Eldest Young Miss."

Huo Yulin was dressed in black. His fair skin shone coldly under the light, and he was twirling an exquisite scalpel between his fingers. "It's fine. We just need to hide it for a few days."

Although Cheng Ming didn't fully understand the Eldest Miss, he wasn't someone who could be easily fooled. "I'll try my best. However, I still don't approve of you going alone for tonight's operation. If anything happens …"
