GOR Chapter 14: Treasure Within The Study
In the middle of the night within the ancient castle, Du Wei stood under the illumination of the surrounding candlelight. He quietly raised his head and looked at the oil painting on the wall. One man and one painting fell into a momentary silence. Du Wei did not receive any response from the other party.
He frowned and said, "Unwilling to answer?"
The face within the oil painting continued to look into Du Wei's eyes.
Du Wei smiled. However, it was a smile that harbored ill intentions. He slowly walked over and pushed a tall staircase over. Climbing up the staircase, he reached out with both hands and attempted to remove the oil painting.
Only then did the face of the person within the oil painting reveal a trace of panic. Within the painting, the pair of eyes that were looking at Du Wei's face were filled with panic.
"Hu!" Du Wei exerted his strength to remove the oil painting from the wall. Clearly, such a heavy item was something that a weak teenager like Du Wei would find difficult to lift. Du Wei felt his arms becoming sore. However, he was surprised to find that there was nothing behind the oil painting!
It was not a mechanism! It was also not someone hiding behind the oil painting to look at him! It was the oil painting itself!
Du Wei turned serious and carefully carried the oil painting down the stairs.
The face within the oil painting revealed a bitter expression and the expression within was one of unease.
"Just what are you?" Du Wei asked in a heavy voice. "A person from the painting that has come back to life?"
The expression within the oil painting became somewhat evasive.
"En, this painting is the portrait of the Rollin family's ancestor who was the Imperial Marshal … could you be that ancestor who has come back to life?" Du Wei smiled and shook his head. "That does not make sense. Because that ancestor has a history of over 200 years. This painting was clearly drawn by a later generation to remember their ancestor. I still have the same question … just what are you? "
After asking for a while, he received no answer. Du Wei's face sank and he said, "Oh, you are unwilling to say? If so, don't regret it. "
He pointed at the surrounding candlesticks and said, "As you can see, there are many candles here. If you do not speak, I will burn you. Do you think I would dare to do that? "
After saying that, he turned around and picked up a lit candle. Then, he slowly moved closer to the oil painting.
The face of the person within the oil painting suddenly changed. There was an unconcealed look of fear and anxiety within his eyes as he begged for mercy. He looked at the candle in Du Wei's hand and the flame that was getting closer. The person within the oil painting could only pleadingly look at Du Wei.
Just as the flame was about to touch the canvas, Duwei moved away the candle and nodded: "Hmm, it seems that you really can't speak? Can you speak? "
The person within the oil painting hastily.
"So, what exactly are you?" Duwei's eyes were shining! A living oil painting! Could it of of it is a Magic?
The oil painting was unable to answer Du Wei's question. After escaping from the danger of being burned, the person within the oil painting breathed out a sigh of relief. Then, he cast an interested look at Du Wei.
Du Wei attempted to ask the oil painting a few more questions. However, due to the other party's inability to speak, it was difficult to communicate with him. At most, the oil painting could only nod and shake his head. After trying hard for a while, he was unable to get anything out of the oil painting.
The man and the oil painting stared at each other.
It was at that moment that a large clock on the wall of the study slowly rang out! It was already midnight!
Du Wei suddenly saw a trace of light coming out from the eyes of the person within the oil painting! Next, he heard a soft sigh coming from beside his ears!
Although the sound was somewhat erratic, Du Wei was able to clearly hear it. It was the sound of a person sighing!
"Listen up! Because I am under a spell, I can only open my mouth to speak for a short period of time when the clock strikes midnight. When the clock stops ringing, I will not be able to speak anymore! "Now, I will only say it once! There is a hidden secret room in this study! There are some treasures in the secret room! "I can give you directions on how to get those treasures. Then, I will need your help. One of the treasures can dispel the spell on me."
Du Wei stared with widened eyes as he looked at the oil painting. "Are you the one talking?"
"Yes! There is no time to explain. " The voice within the oil painting quickly said, "Now, you will begin inspecting the third oil painting on the wall. There are instructions on it. Just follow the instructions. If you are not an idiot, you should be able to find it … "
Dong ~!
Midnight had passed. Following the final ringing of the clock, the light within the eyes of the person within the oil painting gradually disappeared. Then, the voice also stopped talking.
Du Wei looked at the oil painting from top to bottom. The person within the oil painting was also looking at him. There was a pleading expression on his face.
"Oh, you said that you are under a spell, right?" Du Wei smiled and said, "You said that there is a secret room in this study. The secret room contains a treasure that can dispel the spell on you. Is that right? "
Every time he asked, the person within the oil painting would nod his head. There was a look of longing on his face.
"All right, then. What good does this do for me?" Du Wei smiled and said, "Why should I help you?"
The expression of the person within the oil painting changed. Then, the pleading expression in his eyes became even more intense. It was as though he was desperately trying to say something. Unfortunately, not a single word came out.
"Forget it. I also find it very strange. Just consider it as satisfying my curiosity." Du Wei raised his hand and climbed up the ladder to the bookshelf. Following the instructions given by the person within the oil painting when the clock rang, he carefully observed the third oil painting on the wall.
The third oil painting was also a portrait of one of the ancestors of the Rollin family. This ancestor was wearing the uniform of a Navy general. He had a serious expression on his face … his gaze was level, as though he was looking into the distance.
Du Wei carefully inspected the oil painting for a while. However, he was unable to find any traces on the oil painting. He even tried to move the oil painting aside to check the back. However, he found nothing.
Du Wei stood on the stairs and pondered for a moment. He was not in a hurry. Instead, he patiently inspected the painting again, one detail at a time. After repeatedly inspecting the painting three times to no avail, Du Wei suddenly had an idea. He carefully observed the person within the oil painting …
En, the eyes of the person within the oil painting … were level, looking straight ahead.
Du Wei's heart skipped a beat! He quickly followed the direction that the person within the oil painting was looking at!
It was on the opposite wall! The person within the oil painting was using his eyes to look at the Knight's Sword that was hanging on the opposite wall!
Du Wei struggled to push the stairs to the opposite side of the room. Going back and forth like this was too much for a thirteen-year-old boy to endure. However, the intense curiosity within him continued to drive him forward.
After inspecting the Knight's Sword on the wall, Du Wei discovered that the edge of the sword was pointing at the bookshelf beside him!
He followed the direction of the sword up the bookshelf.
In the end, he finally found it!
On the crossbeam of the bookshelf, Du Wei felt a line of uneven marks. He calmed his heart and felt it for a moment. Finally, he realized that it was a line of words!
However, the words were written in reverse! Thus, if someone else were to accidentally touch this place and did not carefully observe the flowers, they would most likely think that it was just an ordinary pattern.
Du Wei carefully read out the words that were written in reverse.
"The answer to the riddle lies in the night sky and the huge spoon is the key to guide the way forward."
Du Wei was unable to stop himself from revealing a wry smile.
What is this? Is this a riddle?
He sighed and slid down the stairs. Then, he sat down cross-legged on the floor and held his head as he pondered the riddle.
"The night sky … … the huge spoon … …"
Finally, Du Wei abruptly stood up. Hope reappeared on his face.
What is in the night sky … … the stars!
Where is the huge spoon? There is no need to ask. It must be referring to the Big Dipper! The shape of the Big Dipper in the sky, does it not look like a huge spoon?
Du Wei figured it out and quickly searched the bookshelf in the study room!
Stars … … stars … …
The only thing in the study room that is related to the stars … … En, it must be the bookshelf where the books on astrology are placed!
Soon, Du Wei found the bookshelf where the books on astrology were placed through the index. He laboriously climbed up and searched for it. Then, according to the guidance of the 'spoon', he carefully searched the seventh row of the bookshelf.
He flipped through the books one by one. Finally …
When he pulled out a book, he could clearly feel that the book was unusually heavy! This was actually a book made of metal! Moreover, after it twitched, there was soon a dull creaking sound of wheels turning coming from inside the wall …
Finally, with a swoosh, the entire bookshelf slowly rotated on its own. Behind the bookshelf, on the wall, a black hole appeared … …
