"The town is so quiet today. There aren't any Players causing trouble on the streets either."
Angora was heading out of the town's liege's residence.
As the number of Players increased, the area occupied by the town slowly expanded.
It was also thanks to the existence of the Valley of the Tragic Dead that there were no signs of human activity around the area. Otherwise, the land itself would have been a huge problem.
The Unnamed Town had long since surpassed the scale of a 'town' in this era, and it would not have been an exaggeration to call it a small city.
The wandering undead that would have been a huge problem for other settlements was nothing more than a walk for the Players in the town, and even the average townsfolk could be killed with a shovel.
Thanks to the town's expansion, Angora's liege's residence had improved considerably, turning from a rundown house into a bungalow that resembled a noble's residence.
"We've activated two high-intensity activities in a row. Everyone must be a little tired." Vela came to him with a jacket and helped him put it on while saying, "Many have gone to Trinia or the Western Continent for a vacation."
Being the first beginner's village for the Players, Angora had certainly obtained many interesting building blueprints from Xi Wei through a system that was separate from most Players.
Still, players would get bored after playing dozens of times, and adventure was the Players' eternal romance. That was why only a small portion of Players who wanted a good rest would stay in the Unnamed Town, while the rest who could not stay idle had long since wandered around the world.
"Whatever, I'll just go to Sky Horizon when I have something to do …"
Angora mumbled nonchalantly.
"You seem very happy?" Vera asked curiously.
"Can you tell? It's true that there are more believers of the God of Games these days. Both the town and Tunaya are slowly developing, and even Lancaster, which had yet to turn over a new leaf, is leaning towards our side. " Angora smiled. "Princess Leah is working hard, so I have to work harder as well … Ouch, ouch, ouch … Vela, you don't have to tighten your collar so much, I can't breathe!"
"Sorry, that was a little rude." Vela expressionlessly released the hand that was about to choke her master to death, and asked unapologetically, "So, are you planning to go to the Lancaster base and have a date with Princess Leah?"
"What are you thinking? We're just discussing how to expand the Church of Games' influence … Our Saintess doesn't care about such things, after all."
Angora replied, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
Walking out of the mansion, the weather was perfect. The sun shone on the street, adding a touch of warmth to the red-bricked street that already had a European fairytale style. It was impossible to tell that more than a year ago, this was the ruins of a small town that was about to disappear.
That beauty did not come out of thin air, but came from the Players' incessant struggles. one might even say that every brick and tile here was built with countless lives.
It was not for nothing.
"As long as we don't stop, the Church of Games would definitely continue to grow … perhaps there would be a day when everyone in the world could live like us …"
Angora looked at the town's scenery, his gaze already transcending this era and looking at the future with longing. "That's why I won't stop. Vela, you have to follow me."
"That's only natural," the girl replied without hesitation.
The two looked at each other for a moment, and then laughed together.
"Hahaha. That doesn't sound like me — it's so pretentious." Angora shook his head. "Let's hurry, or old Mister Vanke is going to complain again."
"I don't think Her Highness would mind."
"That's because she's been forced by Mister Vanke to learn all sorts of knowledge about the crown prince. I've sneaked a peek at her textbooks before, and it's inhumane. In comparison, discussing the development of the church is as relaxing as idle chit-chat."
The two chatted as they walked, and when they arrived at the alley beside the Lifestone, someone suddenly leapt out of the shadows!
No, it wasn't hiding in the shadows — his entire body was in them!
Was it a shadow creature?
Compared to Angora who couldn't react in time, Vela, who was an ordinary Player, quickly made a judgment when she saw the bright red name 'Nightwalker' and the HP bar.
Out of Player instincts, she immediately entered combat mode, and with a slight shake of her hand, a short bow appeared in her hand.
Even though there was no arrow nocked, the girl still drew her bow. Immediately, an emerald green light flowed on the bowstring and instantly condensed into a translucent arrow that flew out!
The girl did not stop. Instead, she shot out three light arrows in rapid succession!
Vela's class was a ranger turned Jungle Walker, but unlike Gou Dan, she was Angora's escort and did not take the path of beast-morphing or tree herding, and was a Senior Hunter who fought purely with a bow!
After all, beast-morphing affected one's appearance, and tree herding was a summoner. Her body would become a weakness, and she clearly wouldn't be able to protect Angora. In comparison, a Senior Hunter with quick reflexes and agility was the best choice even if it had no AoE abilities.
The green arrow pinned the humanoid figure that leapt out of the shadows, causing it to shriek in pain. It seems that even shadow creatures were not immune to divine arrows.
Vela cautiously approached it, but suddenly felt that something was wrong.
She whipped her head around, only to find that another humanoid shadow creature had leapt out of the shadows and was holding Angora hostage!
"Let him go!" The girl roared in rage, drawing her bow.
The shadow creatures quickly used Angora as a shield and hid behind him.
"Just do it, don't mind me! I'm a Player too!" Angora yelled, but could not say a word as a black shadow crept out from behind him and grabbed him by the neck.
Vela hesitated.
It was true that Angora was a Player acknowledged by the God of Games even if he was a unique type, and could theoretically be revived after death.
Moreover, while Players could be dealt friendly damage, that damage was reduced. If she hardened her mind, she might be able to kill those shadow creatures without killing Angora.
But even if she knew that she could do it rationally, she could not do it. What if? What if Angora was a special existence and couldn't be revived after death?
Before the girl could make a decision, two more shadows lunged at her. Vela quickly attacked, tearing the two shadow creatures apart with her arrows, but Angora was dragged into the shadows by the other shadow creatures and taken away!
When the Players who heard the commotion came to check, they saw the girl sobbing in the alleyway …
