"Oh, you three are back. How's the training going?" Half an hour later, Elwyn, Harry, and Ron entered Gryffindor's common room through the portrait hole. Hermione asked coldly, a thick stack of books in front of her.
"Completely screwed up," Ron said in a hollow voice. He sat down on the sofa with a dull look in his eyes.
Elwyn gave Hermione a look. She seemed to understand something, and her cold attitude softened a little.
"It's okay. It's your first time participating in training." She comforted him. "It'll definitely take time …"
"Who said I screwed up the training?" Ron asked impatiently.
"No one!" Hermione said, looking shocked. "I thought …"
"You thought I was destined to be useless?"
"No, of course I don't think so! Look, you said the training was screwed up, so I … "
"Ridiculous. I'm going to do my homework," Ron said angrily.
He stomped to the stairs leading to the boys' dormitory and disappeared in a flash.
"What the hell happened?" Hermione turned to Elwyn and Harry. "Did he screw it up?"
"No," Harry answered immediately, loyally defending his friend.
Hermione raised her eyebrows, obviously not believing it. She turned to look at Elwyn.
"He's just too nervous. He still needs to get used to it," Elwyn said.
"That's right. I think he can perform better," Harry murmured. "It's just the first training …"
Ron didn't show up at dinner either.
Even though Ron wasn't there, Elwyn, Harry, and Hermione didn't bring up the topic again. Everyone knew that he must be thinking about his terrible performance in the Quidditch training. It was hard for him to get the "Gryffindor lost badly" song out of his head.
On Sunday, Elwyn taught Harry, Hermione, and Ginny their first magic lesson since the beginning of the new semester. Corin, Neville, and Kate also joined them. This time, they mainly learned basic spells.
Fred and George didn't show up. Ron didn't show up either.
The magic practice lasted only about two hours. They practiced the Stun Incantation and Barrier Incantation.
No one seemed to be thinking about it. Harry and the others were still thinking about their homework. Except for Hermione, no one seemed to have finished it. The others were thinking about the field outside, enjoying what might be the last bit of sunshine of the year.
During lunch, Ron finally came out of his bedroom. It seemed like the matter was over. He was back to normal.
Perhaps he was hungry. There was no need to starve himself to death because of his poor performance in Quidditch training.
After lunch, Elwyn and Hermione went for a walk. Harry and Ron stayed in the common room, burying their heads in their books.
The other three academies' Quidditch teams were still training on the field. Elwyn and Hermione stood and watched for a while. They then walked towards Hagrid's cabin at the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
Hagrid hadn't returned yet. No one knew where he was.
Even now, Hermione thought that Hagrid was too impulsive to bring a giant back. He could have encountered any kind of danger on the road.
In addition, they also saw the bowtruckle that Professor Grapeland had brought back.
They were gathered on a carefully prepared tree. These magical creatures were the protectors of the tree. They only lived on the wand tree.
They looked as if they were made of wood, each with brown, knobbly legs and arms, and two twig-like fingers on each hand, and two round brown eyes shining in each funny flat, bark-like face.
The two played with the bowtruckle for a while. Hermione decided to go back and revise her sketch. There were a few places she hadn't drawn well.
In the common room, Harry and Ron were curled up by the fireplace. They looked particularly tired and haggard.
"How's it going outside?" Harry asked Elwyn. His eyes were looking out the window at the blue sky.
"The weather is good. Everyone is playing outside. Where's your homework?"
"Sigh, there's no progress. We really should do as much homework as possible." Harry sighed. He was struggling to deal with Professor Sinista's paper about the many moons of Jupiter.
Ron was writing a long paper about non-animal summoning spells that Professor Meg had assigned him. He tried to use the paper that Harry had completed as a reference.
But to be honest, there was no point in using it as a reference. He might as well flip through the textbook.
"Yeah!" Ron said as he rubbed his slightly bloodshot eyes. He threw the fifth piece of useless parchment into the fireplace. "Elwyn, do you think I can ask Hermione to let us see her paper?"
"I don't think she'll agree!" Elwyn said as he took out a magic book.
Hermione was revising her bowtruckle sketch while chatting happily with Ginny. Mount Crook was curled up on her lap.
The three of them quieted down again. Elwyn was immersed in the magic book in his hand about gathering magic power into energy and releasing it.
Unlike the complicated magic incantations and usage techniques, this spell abandoned other effects and directly transformed magic power into energy to cause damage to the target it hit. It was a very interesting research direction and more suitable for Elwyn's current situation.
He did not need to think about using any spells in battle. Instead, he could directly use magic power to cause damage to the enemy, which could greatly reduce the casting time.
Moreover, Elwyn's magic power was very strong, and the energy he could gather was far beyond that of others.
Next to Elwyn, Harry and Ron continued to rack their brains and do their best to finish their homework.
The sky outside the window was getting darker and darker. Gradually, the people in the common room began to become sparse again.
At half past eleven, when there was no one else in the common room, Hermione yawned and walked toward them.
She sat next to Elwyn and looked at the book in his hand, knowing that it was taken from the Blake family library.
Under Elwyn's lead, she now began to read these magic books.
Hermione hesitated for a moment, then turned her head to look at Ron and tried to say, "It's time for bed. You're almost done with your homework, right?"
"No." Ron said grumpily.
"Well, Jupiter's largest moon is Ganymede, not Callisto!" She leaned over and pointed to a line of text in Ron's astronomy paper from behind him. "Also, the one with a volcano should be Io."
"Thank you." Ron said fiercely, heavily crossing out the miswritten sentence.
"Sorry, I just …" Hermione seemed to want to apologize for yesterday's Quidditch incident.
"Yeah, if you're just here to find fault!"
