The moment the two parties passed each other, Li Yao indeed discovered certain stripes that looked like runes on the two behemoths. They were not wounds that were torn apart later but grew on the surface of their bodies like scales and stripes since they were born!
Even though they were just illusions, the two overwhelming behemoths were still suffocating. Li Yao finally understood why the Blade of Chaos and Elder Nether Spring were trying to excavate the legacy of Chaos at whatever cost.
The sky-hunting warship continued rushing deep inside the Star Swallowing Sea.
Because the water in the lakes was dropping at different speeds, surging torrents were often formed.
Sometimes, they seemed to be surrounded by dozens of waterfalls and falling into the center of the waterfalls. Sometimes, they seemed to be rushing in a deep canyon where the 'rocks' on the two sides were all heavy metal lakes. Under the illumination of the sunlight, the colorful stripes looked like dragons and snakes fighting each other. It was a soul-stirring picture that seemed to be a journey of doom.
At first, Li Yao did not know what the sky-hunting warship was looking for exactly when it was circling in the Star Swallowing Sea. After rushing for more than three hours, he finally discovered a shallow scratch on a 'mountain' on his right.
It was not natural but seemed to have been scratched by a certain prehistoric beast. Although it had been corroded for tens of thousands of years, it had not been completely erased.
The sky-hunting warship stopped near the scratch for a long time and scanned every detail of the scratch with the giant biochemical eye before it moved on.
Li Yao thought quickly and immediately understood what the Blade of Chaos was doing.
If the Mausoleum of Chaos did exist at a certain point deep inside the Star Swallowing Sea, and countless enormous beasts had been produced inside the Mausoleum of Chaos, it was inevitable that the beasts would have run into the mountains at the bottom of the lakes and left traces after they were set free.
As long as the traces were found, combined, and analyzed, they would be able to lock onto the coordinates where they had been set free.
It was the entrance to the Mausoleum of Chaos.
Below the enormous lake that was as vast as an ocean … Searching for the scratch traces from tens of thousands of years ago was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Very soon, night fell. The tens of thousands of swirls deep inside the Star Swallowing Sea were all emitting bubbling noises. The rapidly decreasing water level began to rise again. The mountain ranges at the bottom of the lake were swallowed up one after another. Countless mountains were completely submerged in the black lake water.
Although the sky-hunting warships could sail in the ordinary seawater, they would not last long in the Star Swallowing Sea. The outer shell would be corroded, squeezed, and crushed.
Besides, the penetration of light in the Star Swallowing Sea was very poor. The sky-hunting warships would be blinded if they were to dive in. It was impossible for them to see the entire bottom of the lake with the few probe biochemical beasts.
Therefore, they could only give up and rest for a night in the middle of the surging tides and thunderbolts above the Star Swallowing Sea.
After that, three whole days passed. They had been searching in the depths of the Star Swallowing Sea all the time, only to find nothing. Not only did they not find any trace left by the primeval behemoth, they did not even see the electromagnetic illusions of the primeval behemoth.
It was as if the mirage was a figment of everyone's imagination.
But Yuchi Ba's nerves were as cold, hard, and unshakable as he commanded the team patiently. They searched back and forth between the mountain ranges at the bottom of the lake.
On the fourth day, the brilliance of God Chaos finally arrived on the exploration team.
Li Yao did not know many details. However, he clearly sensed that the sky-hunting warships were flying in a more regular pattern, as if they were circling around a certain area at the bottom of the lake.
As far as his eyes could reach, hundreds of wrinkles were revealed in the lake that had dropped to the lowest point, like the arched back of a dragon.
Perhaps it was his imagination. Li Yao discovered, to his surprise, that the ridges seemed to have been condensed into a face that was howling until it was falling apart.
Hu.
The sky-hunting warships dashed toward one of the ridges. The seemingly plain ridge had traces left by almost a hundred behemoths.
The ridge on the left side was even as smooth as a mirror because of the friction of the scales. Looking down from the sky and finding a suitable angle, it looked like a glittering gem embedded in the Star Swallowing Sea.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Two boats were detached from the abdomen of the sky-hunting warships and dashed toward the ridge. Before they landed, dozens of shadows had already jumped out and dashed to the ridge.
Li Yao was greatly alarmed. He knew that those people were the real core of the Blade of Chaos. They probably knew dozens of times more information about the Mausoleum of Chaos than Li Yao did.
Those elite members of the Blade of Chaos were all carrying armored beasts with multiple limbs. They seemed to have gathered the advantages of dozens of enormous insects.
Their claws, teeth, and limbs were deeply embedded into the hard rocks. Even when they were moving on the ridges that were as smooth as a mirror, they were still moving as if they were flying.
Li Yao noticed that they would stab straight metal rods deep into the rocks every once in a while. Then, they would connect the rods with synthesized nerves until they were connected to an enormous biochemical brain.
It should be a space probe that has been modified with the genes of bats. It can detect the size and structure of the underground space by releasing a directional blast deep below the ground and absorbing the feedback.
The Xing Yao Federation had similar magical equipment, too. It was an indispensable tool for underground exploration.
Very soon, the entire ridge was filled with metal rods, like a crocodile that had been stabbed full of spears.
The buffer liquids inside the cabin were being drained quickly, indicating that the journey had come to an end.
Yuchi Ba was overjoyed. "We have found the location of the Mausoleum of Chaos. All squads, gather and prepare for the operation!"
In the next hour, more bizarre-looking demons were projected to the mountains at the bottom of the lake and carried out complicated operations around the ridge.
The only thing that Li Yao could tell was that some of the demons were planting powerful directional bombs based on the direction of the ridge.
Judging from their installation methods and the size of the bombs, they could probably blow up the rocks almost a hundred meters thick.
"Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry up! We have to finish the operation before the lake water rises. Otherwise, everything will be in vain! "Yuchi Ba roared nonstop after he got on the island.
Even in the eyes of Li Yao as a super expert, the explosion team was definitely well-trained. It took them only more than four hours to complete a series of complicated drilling and burying operations. At this moment, the other workers around the ridge had finished their work, too.
All the workers were evacuated to the sky-hunting warship again.
At this moment, it was already dusk. It was time for the lake water to rise again.
In less than an hour, the reefs would be drowned by the lake water again.
When the sky-hunting warship flew quite a few kilometers in a hurry, seven explosions echoed behind Li Yao. Seven mystic rays soared into the sky and condensed into a cluster of complicated patterns in midair, only to crash into the reefs again like shooting stars!
After a deafening explosion, a colorful mushroom cloud slowly rose. Squeaking noises were echoing inside the mushroom cloud, as if countless devils were escaping from the Mausoleum of Chaos while laughing hideously.
The sky-hunting warship took a turn in midair and aimed the main gun at the source of the mushroom cloud. Li Yao and the other warriors were all prepared for battle. Should anything go wrong, they would be able to connect to their biochemical beasts.
However, the shrieks came to an abrupt end three minutes later. It was nothing more than the gloomy air currents below the ground that had been sealed for forty thousand years. The soundwaves and the thermal detections did not detect any traces of living creatures, either.
It was not until then that the sky-hunting warship was bold enough to draw close.
The raging mushroom cloud gradually dispersed. The upper half of the ridge had almost been completely blown away, revealing an irregular black hole. According to the closer scan, there was a vast space down below. Also, many sections of the space had absolutely precise planes, suggesting that it had been excavated by humans.
"Hoooo!"
Everybody in the cabin was exclaiming!
Then, translucent vesicles that looked both like swim bladders and soap bubbles around the island bulged.
The vesicles swallowed and melted with each other, growing larger and larger until they covered the entire island like a crystal cover.
When the black lake water floated up again, it was blocked outside of the vesicles. Not a single drop of lake water could leak into them.
When the sky-hunting warship flew above the crystal cover, a translucent tube extended from the abdomen and connected the cabin to the crystal cover like an umbilical cord.
Then, the sky-hunting warship slowly ascended as the lake water rose. It flew to the surface of the ocean again and anchored thirty meters above the Star Swallowing Sea.
Right now, the entrance to the Mausoleum of Chaos was hundreds of meters below the bottom of the Star Swallowing Sea, but it was connected to the sky-hunting warship through an 'umbilical cord'.
"In the Star Swallowing Sea, the high-intensity anti-water cover that we carefully crafted can last three to five days. We must complete the preliminary exploration of the first phase during that time!"
Yuchi Ba did not go back on his words. After making sure that there was enough fresh air in the Mausoleum of Chaos, he was the first to lead a large batch of explorers into the Mausoleum of Chaos through the long 'umbilical cord'.
Li Yao's mission, on the other hand, was to follow Chu Zhengqing and Chu Feiyin, the specialists in the studies of Chaos. They suffered for more than two hours in weird silence before they were allowed to enter the Mausoleum of Chaos!
"Let's go, Master Chu!"
With a telepathic thought, Li Yao's brainwaves spread out. A layer of transparent vesicles slowly rose around his neck and enshrouded his entire head.
On his back, a small piece of membrane was fluctuating and sucking, filtering the air of the outside world before it was sent into the vesicles.
Although the air inside the Mausoleum of Chaos had been tested to be normal, it was still a relic from forty thousand years ago after all. Nobody could tell whether or not certain fatal viruses or microbes were still in the air. Therefore, it was better to be safe than sorry.
