Lu Qingchen shook his head softly and sighed. "I swear that I can vouch for my mentor Li Yao with my life and my soul that he absolutely believes in his justice and courage. He will not hesitate to do so even if his body and soul are obliterated.
"But he has never figured out one thing. He is an anomaly, a weirdo, and a 'child of destiny' who is born with the luck of the entire universe. Everything that happened to him is definitely not a universal truth.
"He can defeat all the enemies with 'courage, passion, and justice' and save himself from countless perilous situations. It is not because 'courage, passion, and justice' really work but only because he, because he is lucky enough to be a 'child of destiny'!
"Yes, under his leadership, our country and our civilization were able to march forward unstoppably and crush all the enemies with blood-boiling slogans such as' Cultivators are the sabers of the civilization of mankind, and the blood of the strong flowed for the weak '. However, it was not because those slogans were truly spells that boasted ultimate power, but because those slogans were shouted out by him. That was all!

"By then, however high people praise him today, they will smash him down tomorrow. All the halos of heroes on him will be shattered, and the crown of supremacy will be rusted in the scorn of billions of people. He will turn from the 'great savior' into the most despicable demon and the culprit of the destruction of our civilization. He will become a symbol a hundred times more evil than Blackstar the Great or the Blood God. He will be nailed to the pillar of shame in history forever!"
The more Lu Qingchen talked, the more excited he became.
His eyes, which were so large that they were deformed, were shimmering with tears of excitement and anxiety.
"I love Li Yao, and I love the pure, immaculate passion, justice, and courage in him even more. It is exactly because those things are so childish, stupid, and naïve, and they are as fragile as glass buds in the dark and cruel universe that they are more worthy of our protection."
Lu Qingchen wiped the tears on the corner of his eyes softly and smiled. "That's why I'm going against Li Yao. Only in such a way can I find a way to save him."
Gus blinked hard.
He could not understand the demon's logic at all.
"Let's go back to the example just now. A village surrounded by venomous snakes."
Lu Qingchen explained to the young man patiently, "If all the villagers have been driven into fanaticism by the 'passion, courage, and justice' of the 'snake-slaying hero', and you are the only one who is clear-headed, and you love the 'snake-slaying hero' so much that you do not want to see him and the villagers fall into the abyss of no return, how are you going to save him and the village?"
Frowning, Gus pondered for a long time and said hesitantly, "I … will stop them from hitting the snakes and try to explain to them that the snakes are poisonous and cannot be killed so easily?"
"Will it work?"
Lu Qingchen said coldly, "Our 'snake-slaying hero' who is unbelievably lucky can totally reveal the dozens of wounds on his body caused by the venomous snakes and tell everybody that being bitten by the venomous snakes is not fatal. As long as they stick to 'justice and courage', not only will they be immune to all kinds of poisons, they can even benefit from the misfortune and be physically strong!
"Besides, time is running out. The villagers are all in a state of 'collective hysteria'. Nobody will listen to you, an insignificant guy who claims to be clear-headed."
Gus shook his head. "I don't know."
"The only solution is to tell you. Listen carefully."
With a mysterious smile on his face, Lu Qingchen said, "The only way to stop the villagers from getting killed is to catch a few venomous snakes, find a few random children, and put them on them so that the venomous snakes can bite them to death."
Gus was dumbfounded. "W-What?"
"You heard me very clearly."
Lu Qingchen opened his hands and said, "Catch a few venomous snakes and bite a few children to death. Although it is a bit simple and crude, is there any other way to let everybody know the truth that 'snakes are venomous, and they will die if they bite you'?
"Yes. Of course, a few innocent children will die miserably, but they will die in the first place. They will die either in the village or in the mountains outside. Chances are that they will die even more miserably, being torn apart by thousands of venomous snakes without an intact body!
"In the meantime, more villagers will be saved because of their clear-headedness. Our 'snake-slaying hero' will be able to calm down a little bit. Chances are that he can make some space for things other than 'passion, courage, and justice' in his abnormally swollen brain. Eventually, his reputation will be preserved.
"It will be a happy ending for everybody.
"Only the guy who released the snakes to kill people will not have a good ending. But does it matter? Just like my mentor is willing to sacrifice himself for the civilization of mankind anytime, I am willing to die for my dear mentor, Li Yao, any time!
"Just like that, I degenerated into a demon willingly and caught a lot of venomous snakes, preparing to bite some villagers to death. In such a way, I will let everybody realize the danger of venomous snakes and the uselessness of justice.
"Of course, I don't want the villagers to hide in the village forever. I only want to tell everybody that venomous snakes are really dangerous. If we have to break out of the village, we need to make more preparations, run all kinds of experiments, study countless venomous snakes, and even transform our own blood into high-intensity venom in order to march to the perilous extraterrestrial domain. We cannot think that we are invincible and immune to all poisons just because of our ridiculous courage and justice.
"What's embarrassing is that I was discovered by my mentor when I released the snakes to kill people."
Gus: "Well …"
Lu Qingchen opened his hands and said unconcernedly, "It can't be helped. We can only fight each other to the death."
Gus said, "Since you have gone through so much trouble, can't you explain it to my mentor?"

Lu Qingchen snorted. "More importantly, we are both adults, and I have a sense of shame, too, alright? You want me to confess my admiration and love for him right in front of him and protect his heart even at the cost of my life? That's too cheesy. I don't want it!"
