Just like that, the slaughter began.
It was the cruelest slaughter, and it was a hundred times more bloody than usual.
It was because everybody was mired in desperation and madness. They all knew that they were merely lingering on their last breath and enjoying the cruel pleasure before their death.
The first targets of the gangs were the gangs around them. With the cutting-edge magical equipment and the advanced weapons that they had just acquired, they fought until the sky turned dark and blood flowed like rivers. The food, weapons, and ammunition that could have sustained them for years were often used up in the gory battle or even burned for no good reason.
As soon as the war began, its original purpose became unimportant. The ferocious beast was destined to go out of control and be filled with the lives of billions of people.
Just like that, the entire Bloody Plateau and even the entire Land of Sins were burning. The damage caused by the chaotic war that involved the entire world was almost as great as the 'Great Cataclysm' that turned the Martial Meritocrats Sector into the Land of Sins. Everybody called it the 'second apocalypse'.
Almost everybody believed that the second apocalypse was the real apocalypse, and they were destined to be doomed.
However, their survival instincts forced them to squander the food and weapons in their hands blatantly, turning them into part of the catastrophe.
Only a very small number of people were able to maintain their calm amidst this crazy calamity.
Gu Zhengyang, the leader of the Village of Peace, was one of them.
His trust in his daughter Coloured Glaze and his disciple Han Te, and especially in the mysterious' Grandpa Yao ', allowed him to grit his teeth and maintain the last bit of his humanity when the entire Land of Sins was mired in a dark abyss.
When the Bloody Plateau was rioting, and a lot of innocent people lost their homes and flooded into the Village of Peace, he resisted the situation that was about to collapse with his solid arms and collected abundant debris of 'Manjusaka, the City in the Sky'. He also obtained a certain amount of food and synthesized food production lines and water-cleaning chips from them. With those things, the Village of Peace developed and expanded into the only pure land in the catastrophe.
However, when the nest was overturned, no egg could remain intact. As the entire Land of Sins was burnt up, the doom of the Village of Peace arrived, too.
The gangs on the Bloody Plateau had used up all their food and most of their weapons and ammunition in the internal strife. The last bit of humanity and brutality had been stripped away, and they had completely degenerated into ravenous ghouls.
They converged into a mighty black tide. Their only perception was hunger, and their only instinct was to bite. For many bandits, their only weapon was their teeth.
After breaking through a few small villages in a row, the seemingly glamorous Village of Peace became the most dazzling target.
All the bandits on the Bloody Plateau had gathered in that place and attacked the Village of Peace from all directions, yelling and shouting.
Most of the bandits had been killed in the years of internal strife. The remaining bandits might have been ordinary people in a certain village yesterday, but that did not stop them from releasing their cruelty and brutality to drive away the fear of the end of the world.
Although the Village of Peace was well-trained, it was not a real gang after all. The crystals and ammunitions that they had stored were limited.
However, too many bandits were gathering like ants from various directions. Those human-shaped demons had long lost their rationality. They knew that it was impossible to satisfy the bottomless hole in everybody's throat by taking down a tiny Village of Peace, but they were still pushing forward in vain, hoping to survive for one more second, even half a second.
There was no hope.
Everybody had to die together. Today, this place should be the doomsday of the entire Land of Sins.
Gu Zhengyang took a long breath slowly. His straight back was somewhat hunched.
"Leader."
Next to him, the muscular man named 'Er Hu' smiled bitterly. "If we had listened to me and marched out half a year earlier, things would've been much better!"
"Is there any difference?"
Gu Zhengyang asked back. "If we marched out and became a gang of bandits, wouldn't we end up the same as them in the end?"
Er Hu was dazed for a moment. Wiping the smoke on his face, he mumbled, "Then, aren't we the same as them right now?"
"Not the same."
Gu Zhengyang shook his head and said softly, "We are different. We will die in a different way from them."
"Die in a different way?"
Er Hu asked. "Is it important? We will die in any way anyway!"
"It's important, very important. Everyone is rushing towards death from the moment they are born. How they die is, of course, very important."
Gu Zhengyang pointed at the dense crowd up ahead and said, "They die like dogs, and we die like human beings. Is it the same?"
"… It does make sense. At the very least, everybody in the Village of Peace dies like human beings and men!"
Er Hu spat and put a grenade into his pocket. Pressing it against his chest, he licked his dry lips and smiled foolishly. "However, it would be even better if I could die a quick death and not fall into the hands of those sons of b * tches!"
BOOM!
Hardly had he concluded his sentence when a raging fireball had already risen from the last defense line in front of the Village of Peace.
The inhumane bandits were about to launch the final attack. Once the city wall made of the shells of the ships was broken, everybody would become their food!
At this moment, Gu Zhengyang did not have any regrets or concerns in his heart, except for his daughter and his disciple who had been away for a long time.
"Coloured Glaze and Han Te, they should be fine, right? I hope that they can escape from this hell on earth and go to a real paradise where there is no war, no famine, and only peace! "
Gu Zhengyang's dry eyes were covered by a layer of dirty liquid. In his trance, he had an illusion, as if he saw his disciple Han Te grinning at him in the middle of the burning clouds.
"Han Te, you must take good care of the Coloured Glaze. Then, I will be able to close my eyes in peace."
Gu Zhengyang smiled in relief and blinked his eyes.
Then, he discovered that the illusion was not gone. Han Te's grinning, sleazy face was still floating in the middle of the burning clouds. He was grinning so hard that the corners of his lips were almost torn apart.
Gu Zhengyang was slightly dazed. He blinked again.
It … It was still there. It was really strange. The illusion this time was too real and could not be dismissed at all. Also, it was so vivid that he could see every detail! Could it be that he was too hungry, and his mind was muddled by the cannon fire, so he had such an illusory hallucination?
"Ma — leader!"
Right then, Er Hu, who was next to him, was dumbfounded. He lost his cool and exclaimed, "Han Te. Isn't — isn't — isn't that Han Te? He's in the clouds. He's in the clouds!"
"What? Not an illusion?"
Gu Zhengyang's mouth was as wide as it could be, too, as he looked at the burning clouds in disbelief.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!"
All the villagers of the Village of Peace had been prepared to die together with the enemy. They only wanted to die a quick death. However, when they saw Han Te's giant face in the middle of the clouds, they were all greatly shocked. They did not know whether they should be 'overjoyed' or 'dumbfounded'.
Of course, it was not the real Han Te. However huge Han Te's face was, it was impossible for everybody to see it clearly from an altitude of ten thousand meters.
It was just a hologram that had been magnified countless times.
However, the crystal warships that tore apart the burning clouds, pierced through the atmosphere, and descended from the sky enshrouded in nine layers of flames, were as real as they could be.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven … Dozens of crystal warships tore apart the atmosphere at the same time and rushed forward. Even if they were not the gargantuan super arsenal warships, the orbital warships almost a hundred meters long were still intimidating enough to break apart the sky and the earth.
Not only were everybody in the Village of Peace shocked into silence by the unexpected scene, they were also shocked into silence.
Even the insane bandits were suppressed by the heatwave from above their heads. The smell of iron and smoke was like an invisible sledgehammer that hit the chest of every bandit heavily.
"Everybody down there, listen up. This village is under the protection of Han Te, the legendary 'King of Guns in Space'. Who gave you the audacity to attack this place?"
In the middle of the clouds, Han Te's vivid face was beaming with excitement. He grimaced and said, "I'll give you three seconds to drop your weapons, hold your head, and squat on the ground. Otherwise, I'll show you the awesomeness of the 'King of Guns in Space'. My reputation is not undeserved. In the Jade Tripod Sector, the Yellow Dragon Sector, and the battle to protect the capital, I — I played a critical role with a 100% accuracy, alright?"
The bandits down below looked at each other in bewilderment, not knowing what he was talking about at all.
Even Gu Zhengyang covered his face with his hands, somewhat embarrassed for his disciple.
"Damn it. I've finally returned to my hometown in glory. Does nobody take the 'King of Guns in Space' seriously?"
Han Te gnashed his teeth. The head of the orbital warship flashed. Countless' stun grenades' made of compressed air exploded in the dozens of square kilometers around the Village of Peace. The airwaves caused by the expansion of the compressed air exploded next to the bandits' ears like countless thunders, making all the bandits dizzy. Their internal organs were churning, and their limbs were so weak that they could barely stand on their feet. Lying on the ground, they began to vomit loudly.
What completely collapsed the bandits' fighting will, however, was the wooden boxes that were dropped from the sky. Those wooden boxes did not use parachutes or cushions on purpose. They fell straight to the ground and smashed into pieces, but the alluring fragrance of synthesized food splashed out.
"Food! Food!"
Most of the bandits had joined the torrent of slaughter because they were driven by hunger in the first place. Right now, Han Te had intentionally thrown tremendous synthesized food behind them. They had no time to care about the Village of Peace at all. They all turned around and lunged at the delivery point of the synthesized food in a hurry. A weird circle of emptiness appeared around the village.
"Master, and all the folks of the Village of Peace, don't be scared. Han Te, whom you've been waiting for the most, has returned in glory!"
