Chapter 1959

Words:2234Update:22/11/09 19:27:48

Report

The desolate cities, the broken roads, the skyscrapers that were riddled with holes, and the dark clouds that were hanging from the sky were like jagged claws that were trying to grab all the creatures on the desolate land and stuff them into their mouths.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

BOOM! BOOM! Explosions echoed far and near, mixed with the noises of the skyscrapers collapsing. Gray and red smoke rose from the horizon like enormous tumors that were floating in midair.

A shuttle that had been crazily modified, ragged on the surface but silent when it was flying, passed among the bones of the city, leaving a long pillar of smoke behind it.

From the debris of the skyscrapers on the two sides of the road, lizards with multiple heads and cancerous tumors crawled out now and then and stared at the shuttle greedily.

But before they could release the venom, the flying shuttle flashed past and disappeared into the smoke.

Li Yao was carried to the back seat of the shuttle by the two little fellows. He observed the world from a new perspective.

What the two little fellows had gone through today was truly an unexpected turn of events. They had just been saved from the doom, only to be slapped in the head. They were at a loss because of the devastating news, only to be rekindled by 'Grandpa Yao'.

At this moment, both Han Te and the Coloured Glaze could not calm themselves down for a long time. They held each other's hands, and there was no telling whether they were warm or cold.

"The world has turned into such a state …"

Li Yao mumbled.

"In our eyes, the world has always been like this. It is gray, barren, and full of conflicts and slaughter. We have to keep our eyes wide open every second and look for every bit of prey in the ruins and the crevices. But it doesn't matter. Grandpa Yao is so awesome that you are almost like a super 'old grandpa'. You will certainly live a good life here."

Han Te shrugged and said, "I'm told that a long, long time ago, before 'Judgment Day' took place, the world used to be different. There were … green mountains, clear waters, birds, and flowers. I saw a few incomplete pictures in my master's place that depicted it. Tsk, tsk, tsk. It's hard to believe. Can such a world really exist?

"Grandpa Yao, can you tell me what the world of green mountains, clear waters, birds, and flowers was like?"

Li Yao was silent.

The Coloured Glaze poked him softly and glared at him.

"Well …"

Han Te scratched his hair hard and blushed. "Excuse me, Grandpa Yao. I almost forgot that you lost your body and your memories of the past. You lurked alone for hundreds of years with only the last remaining part of your soul … Aya, Coloured Glaze, you poked me again!"

Han Te was a young man after all. Hearing that Li Yao could be of great help to them, Han Te gradually regained his usual fearlessness.

Li Yao did not think it was a big deal. With a smile, he raised a critical question. "I've discovered that the assets in this place are very scarce. It is difficult to find even a spiritual puppet for cleaning and maintenance in such an enormous city. Also, radiation is everywhere, and the land is barren. It is barely possible to grow food. According to what you said just now, there are thousands of people in the Village of Peace alone, and there are more than ten villages in the hundreds of square kilometers nearby. How do you survive? Where do you get the food, the water, the resources for training, the weapons, and the maintenance magical equipment?"

"Part of it is scavenging and hunting."

Han Te said, "But you're right, Grandpa Yao. It's been hundreds of years since Judgment Day. Almost all the city ruins have been explored hundreds of times by the scavengers. It will be lucky if they can find half of a track. As for hunting, most of the animals that are easy to hunt have been captured. The remaining animals are all ferocious and as tricky as the Thunder Salamanders just now. It is not a fair deal to catch them at the cost of our lives.

"Thankfully, tremendous resources fall from the sky regularly. Food, drinks, and necessities. That's what we mainly live on."

"The sky?"

Li Yao was slightly dazed. "Not only do 'old grandpas' fall from the sky, a lot of resources will also fall from the sky. Isn't that weird?"

"It's not weird at all. It's the free assistance from the 'angels' to the 'sinners'."

Han Te narrowed his eyes and scanned the gloomy clouds on the horizon. Suddenly, his eyes glittered as he pointed at the gloomy sky up ahead. "Grandpa Yao, look. That's the 'Heavenly Rails'!"

Li Yao gazed at the sky and released his senses to the maximum. He saw that, in the middle of the dense clouds, a super-enormous rail that traversed the entire sky vaguely appeared, extending from the horizon behind him all the way to the horizon in front of him.

It was like a sharp sword that pierced the sky and an endless bridge that led to the sea of stars. It was indescribably splendid and magnificent!

Li Yao immediately recalled the circular space stations around the entire planet that he had seen when he broke into the atmosphere of the Martial Meritocrats Planet.

Han Te couldn't have been more excited. Pointing his finger at the sky, he shouted, "That's the Heavenly Rails. Tremendous resources and even living people are projected from above all the time to help us through the difficulties. At the end of the interconnected Heavenly Rails is' Manjusaka, the City in the Sky ', where the' angels' live! One day, I will leave this wretched 'Land of Sins' just like my sister and go to the City in the Sky. I will go to Manjusaka and the most brilliant universe outside! "

It was the second time that Li Yao had heard the name of 'Manjusaka, the City in the Sky'.

"Please explain," he said briefly.

"Manjusaka, the City in the Sky, is a place where the 'angels' build and live," Coloured Glaze said. "It is also a portal from the Land of Sins to the universe.

"The seniors in the village told us that, a long, long time ago, most of the people in the Martial Meritocrats Sector were unpardonable, greedy guys. They brutalized and attacked each other, leading to 'Judgment Day' that destroyed the surface of the entire planet. Those people were our ancestors.

"But not everybody was as greedy and evil as them. Some of the kind-hearted, clear-headed people escaped from the catastrophe that had lasted hundreds of years in time. They built enormous starships and escaped before Judgment Day arrived to travel in the sea of stars."

"Do you know what's in the sea of stars?" Li Yao asked.

"I'm not sure."

The two little fellows shook their heads. Coloured Glaze went on. "Whatever is in the sea of stars, those kind-hearted people never abandoned their home and compatriots. After Judgment Day, they returned to the devastated Martial Meritocrats Sector.

"Right now, calling themselves the angels, they have built the Heavenly Rails of an enormous scale and 'Manjusaka, the City in the Sky', trying to clean the pollution and radiation on the planet and repair the scarred planet.

"Before the Land of Sins was completely restored to its original appearance, they were also delivering necessary resources, weapons, and training arts to us incessantly through the Heavenly Rails, helping us to survive in the cruel land.

"Do you really believe such legends?" Li Yao asked. "If the 'angels' can travel in the sea of stars, why didn't they take all of you away?"

Biting her lips, Coloured Glaze said, "The abilities of the angels are limited, too. Perhaps their starships are not large, and they do not have infinite resources. Naturally, they cannot save all of us.

"Besides … we are all 'sinners'. The sinful blood of our ancestors flows in our veins, and the elements of brutality are hidden in our blood. You only need to look at what happened in the Land of Sins. Looting, slaughtering, burning, and war. Most of the 'sinners' are even more brutal than the most brutal mutated beasts. Until they are completely purged, naturally, they do not deserve to set foot in 'Manjusaka, the City in the Sky'. Otherwise, what should we do if something goes wrong in the world of the angels?

"The so-called 'Judgment Day' was the consequence of our ancestors' actions. The 'angels' do not owe us anything in the first place. It is already good enough that they are willing to provide tremendous resources to assist us selflessly so that we can struggle to survive. Are we, the 'sinners' who are born with original sins, qualified to ask for more from the 'angels'? Wouldn't we become insatiable scoundrels if we did?"

Li Yao sneered. "That was told to you by the old folks in the village. Where did they learn it from? Let me ask you again. Do you really believe such legends? "

"The old folks in the village naturally heard it from the old folks of the old folks. It has been passed on from generation to generation. Such nonsense must've been passed on for hundreds of years!"

Han Te said casually. "Does it matter whether we believe it or not? In any case, the 'sinners' who are struggling in the Land of Sins have to live on the charity of the high and mighty 'angels'. Money is everything. They can say whatever they want!

"But it doesn't matter. Hehehehe. Now that I've basically recovered my strength, one day, I will enter Manjusaka, the City in the Sky, like my sister. I will become a high and mighty 'angel' so that everybody in the village will have a good life. They will have food that they can never finish, water that they can never finish, and clean air that they can never breathe!"

"Your sister … is in 'Manjusaka, the City in the Sky'," Li Yao said curiously. "Can a sinner become an angel?"

The Coloured Glaze nodded heavily. "Yes. Han Te's sister is very awesome. She is a real genius of geniuses and is even stronger than my father. She went to 'Manjusaka, the City in the Sky' a long time ago. She is the greatest pride of the Village of Peace!"

Li Yao found it odd. "Judging from your tone just now, the Village of Peace seems to be in some sort of crisis. Then, can't you ask Han Te's sister for help?"

The Coloured Glaze blushed, not knowing how she should respond.
