Chapter 1945

Report

The carbon-based civilizations that were destroyed were not necessarily annihilated. It was more likely that they were modified into slaves and new biochemical weapons by the Pangu's alliance. It was like how human beings domesticated wolves into domestic dogs, domesticated cattle into domestic animals, and domesticated horses into war horses.

After the Nuwa Clan split from the Pangu civilization's alliance and raised a war that eventually destroyed the Pangu civilization and the Nuwa civilization, the order of the three thousand Sectors was gone. Naturally, the "livestock" in the past escaped, and part of them gradually regained their wildness.

Deep inside their genes, the memories of their ancestors from millions of years ago could be stored, which could give them high wisdom and powerful techniques that were far beyond the understanding of the civilization of mankind.

However, they were also restrained and domesticated by the Pangu and the Nuwa civilizations. To some extent, they were beasts that only had survival instincts and all kinds of fatal weaknesses.

A lot of such 'beasts' were modified into biochemical weapons by the Pangu and the Nuwa civilizations at the end of the primeval war. They were set into the automatic reproduction and hunting mode so that they could carry out endless slaughter.

That was the truth of the 'alien species'.

Even though they once boasted a glorious civilization, they were only beasts that were relatively strong right now. It was impossible for them to compete with the civilization of mankind as a whole.

However, the vastness of the sea of stars gave them a chance of survival. However strong the civilization of mankind was, it was impossible for them to find and kill all the alien species hiding in the sea of stars.

In certain environments, it was not unusual for them to attack the fleets or even the resource planets of mankind, destroy the towns of mankind, and kill hundreds of human beings.

In fact, there were alien species at the edge of the cosmos, too.

The 'spiritual beasts', 'eccentric beasts', 'demon beasts', 'magical beasts', and so on that the Cultivators often talked about were not local species but the relatively weak branches of the alien species. After being domesticated by human beings for a hundred thousand years, their habits and even their appearance had undergone tremendous changes.

The spiritual energy at the edge of the cosmos was thin, and it was not the main battlefield of the primeval war. The Pangu and the Nuwa civilizations did not project a lot of 'biochemical weapons' there. The alien species in the territory of the Federation were at best 'chickens and ducks'.

The center of the cosmos was different.

There were abundant resources, spiritual energy, and a complicated environment. It was also the main battlefield of the primeval war in the past. All kinds of 'biochemical weapons' that could automatically reproduce and kill had been mutating and evolving nonstop in the hundreds of thousands of years after the collapse of the Pangu's alliance. Who knew how many species there were right now?

In the era of the ancient Cultivators, the Great Dark Age, the era of the Star Ocean Imperium, the era of the Star Ocean Republic, and the era of the Imperium of True Human Beings, the war of mankind against the alien species had never stopped.

The hundred thousand years of war had greatly reduced the number of alien races in space. They basically posed no threat to the entire human civilization.

But it was also like a sieve that filtered out all the weak and stupid alien races. Those that were able to survive the repeated annihilation and slaughter of the human army until now were the most dangerous, cunning, ferocious, and powerful existences.

For the fleets that were relatively small and the space towns with weak defenses, the alien species was the most dreadful threat.

In the heartland of the Imperium of True Human Beings, such a threat was even more threatening than the shadow of war caused by the Holy League.

After all, the people of the Holy League were merely emotionless but not irrational lunatics. The two parties were mostly engaged in fierce battles at the borderland. It was rare for them to jump to the enemy's rear on a large scale for mutual destruction.

The alien races, on the other hand, were unpredictable. They could show up at any time and any place to carry out a merciless slaughter.

Many alien races boasted the abilities to survive and cruise in the vacuum of space. They also boasted the keenness of 'space ripples'.

It was said that they sensed the ripples in space like sharks sensed the smell of blood.

In the Tian Yuan Realm, there was an extremely ferocious mutated shark that could smell a drop of blood that was sprayed into the ocean three to five hundred kilometers away.

Certain alien races that lurked in space and preyed on the fleets that passed by had a much better sense of smell.

If he had run into the patrol fleets of the Imperium of True Human Beings or the unmanned surveillance satellites, Li Yao could have found a way to cover up and defend himself.

But if the alien races set their eyes on him, there would be nothing he could do except to fight with his full strength!

Therefore, the moment he jumped to the Devilish Scorpion Nebula of the Imperium of True Human Beings, Li Yao had increased the probing abilities of 'Jingle Bell' and his own level to the maximum.

Beep! Beep!

As he expected, before he finished searching for the astronomical parameters around, the crystal processor sent out earsplitting alarms, indicating that an unknown high-energy reaction was approaching.

The seemingly enormous meteoroids happened to be flying at 'Jingle Bell' precisely.

Li Yao, however, sneered in his heart. What were the odds that he would run into a meteoroid belt the moment he jumped over? It had to be somebody's doing. They must've been attracted by the space ripples that he released when he was passing through the wormhole.

Then, bring it on. Let me see what the strong beings at the center of the cosmos are capable of!

Li Yao had never thought that he could reach the center of the cosmos smoothly and peacefully. There were always unexpected factors.

Now that he had indeed found the traces of the alien races, he was greatly reassured. Overwhelming fighting will was ignited in his heart.

The spiritual shield of "Jingle Bell" was raised to the maximum, welcoming the crazy collisions from the meteoroids. Colorful flowers of destruction were raised after the collision.

Li Yao had finished putting on the Crystal Suit. His Colossus was ready to arrive at any moment, too. The powerful telepathic thoughts close to the Divinity Transformation Stage were released, searching for the enemy deep inside the meteoroid belt.

Right then —

Zhi! Zhi! Zhi!

Zhi! Li Yao seemed to have 'heard' screams deep inside his brain. Sharp waves were bursting out of the meteoroids in all directions and piercing through 'Jingle Bell' like gloomy winds. A lot of units on 'Jingle Bell' were malfunctioning.

The spiritual shield and the power rune arrays of 'Jingle Bell' dimmed at the same time, losing about 50% of its impetus. It had been moving against the current in the meteoroid belt, but now it was drifting with the current and being carried away by the meteoroids.

The seemingly cold and lifeless meteoroids, after wriggling weirdly for a while, slowly opened their limbs that were full of sharp teeth and thorns, unfolding into the shape of pentagrams.

At first glance, they looked like grayish-brown starfish with different sizes. Some were three to five meters in diameter, larger than a human being, while some were as small as a palm, small and delicate.

At the center of the five limbs was an intake cavity that was full of sharp teeth. Regardless of their size, the three circles of sharp teeth were all revolving rapidly and could tear apart all the metals, rocks, and minerals.

The bodies of the 'starfish' that were disguised as meteoroids were expanding nonstop, as if a certain high-energy reaction inside their bodies had generated tremendous gas. The gas spurted out from their back, granting them a high speed. Together with their previous inertia, they lunged at 'Jingle Bell' brutally.

The starfish the size of a palm lunged at the shell of 'Jingle Bell' first. Although the rapidly revolving teeth were not enough to break the shell of 'Jingle Bell', it was enough to disrupt most of the rune arrays carved on the shell of 'Jingle Bell', reducing the speed and defense ability of 'Jingle Bell'.

The starfish that were almost ten meters in diameter followed closely. If the starfish were stuck to them, the damage would not be as simple as the shell being damaged.

"What an awesome alien species!"

Li Yao clicked his tongue in amazement. Such 'cosmic starfish' obviously had two different forms of survival. When they curled into a cluster and turned into meteoroids, not only was it an excellent camouflage, they could also reduce all the resources that the carbon-based lives needed to the outside world, such as air, water, food, and so on, to the minimum, allowing them to survive and lurk for a long time in the cold, dark vacuum of space.

The moment they discovered the prey, they would immediately enter the hunting state. Judging from their teamwork and their sharp claws and teeth, it was possible that a normal fleet of human beings would've been swallowed from the skin to the bones without leaving anything behind.

"No wonder they have survived for so long in the heartland of the Imperium of True Human Beings.

"However, you have found the wrong prey this time!"

Li Yao licked his lips and leaped out of the emergency escape hatch of 'Jingle Bell' in a streak of blackness.

With a telepathic thought, dozens of powerful telepathic thoughts hit the 'cosmic starfish' that were attached to the shell of the starship brutally.

Li Yao knew that the thorns of the 'cosmic starfish' had been deeply embedded into the shell of 'Jingle Bell'. If he tore them off by force, chances were that the starship would be further damaged.

Therefore, he had to stimulate their nerve endings first — if they had any — and make them retract their thorns voluntarily in order to get them off.

As he expected, however weird the 'cosmic starfish' were, they were carbon-based lives after all. Being attacked by Li Yao's telepathic thoughts that were as fast as lightning, they could not help but cramp beyond their control.

The spiritual shield and the force field interference system of 'Jingle Bell' were activated to the maximum immediately, blowing away all the cosmic starfish that were attached to the surface! Xiu!

Xiu! Xiu! Xiu!

Behind Li Yao's Crystal Suit, a pair of enormous black wings was unfolded to the maximum, triggering almost a hundred blades of light that pierced through all the cosmic starfish and left transparent holes in their mouths.

Those cosmic starfish withered and shriveled before they had the chance to cramp, like rotten flowers that had been infected by pests.

The cosmic starfish that were almost ten meters in diameter were shrieking in soundless noises, raising surging tides inside Li Yao's head. Tremendous air currents spurted out of their backs and lunged at Li Yao.

Li Yao sneered nonstop. His black wings were condensed into a hundred arcs in front of him. Like a bowstring that had been tightened to the maximum, they bounced out abruptly and cut the cosmic starfish that lunged at him into meat pieces large and small without any trouble.
