"If the Medicine Fork civilization had survived the doomsday plague and risen from the ashes, I believe that they would have grown even stronger and even become a dominator in the sea of stars!

"It was a pity that, under the leadership of the soft-hearted Cultivators, nobody was so decisive as to make such an unpardonable decision!

"On the contrary, the ideology of 'protecting the ordinary people' had long been melted into the bones of every Cultivator, which determined that they would not let anybody go, even if they were infected or suspected to be infected!

"As a result, the doomsday plague grew more and more intense. The Medicine Fork civilization lost four fifths of its population within one year. The social order completely collapsed!

"It was not until this moment that the immune system inside the survivors evolved again and was able to compete with the speed of the virus!

"It was too late. They realized it too late. The virus was evolving a hundred times faster than them! After only decades of struggling life, the last person of the Medicine Fork civilization was swallowed by the plague and turned into a pile of stinky bones!

"When the explorers of the Imperium of True Human Beings arrived at the planet of the Medicine Fork, we saw a lot of well-sealed starships in a splendid launch site. The rather advanced starships all turned into a paradise for rats and cockroaches.

"The Medicine Fork civilization could have soared to the stars, but it was nipped in the cradle by the insignificant bacteria and viruses.

"The most ironic thing was that, when the historians and archaeologists of the Imperium explored the planet of the Medicine Fork carefully, trying to find the cause of the doomsday plague thousands of years ago, we found the undersea volcano that had once erupted and successfully retrieved the hibernating ancient virus from the sulfuric mud near the volcano.

"Fellow Cultivator Li, can you guess what the virus was exactly?"

Li Yao shook his head hard.

Su Changfa smiled. "It's an ancient version of the respiratory syncytial virus. Although it sounds terrible and highly infectious, it is not actually fatal.

"In fact, the symptoms that the modern variants of the virus often cause include fever, headache, nasal congestion, chills, and muscle aches all over the body. We usually call such symptoms … a cold!"

"Huh?"

Li Yao exclaimed in disbelief.

"Exactly. A flu virus from the primeval era crushed the glorious Medicine Fork Civilization that claimed to have 'eliminated all diseases' into smithereens!"

Su Changfa burst into laughter. "The Cultivators of the Medicine Cross Sector naively thought that they could save everybody. But as it turned out, they could barely save themselves. They couldn't save anyone at all!

Li Yao had a lot of complicated feelings in his heart.

He was very clear that the self-destructive civilizations of the Cultivators must've been carefully selected by the authorities of the Imperium of True Human Beings. Chances were that they were brainwashing materials that had been greatly embellished.

However, without all the exaggerations and slander, one could still vaguely see the picture of the glorious civilizations in the past sliding into the abyss step by step, unable to be stopped.

That kind of helplessness and despair made it impossible for Li Yao to laugh. He pondered seriously. If the new Xing Yao Federation were to encounter the same situation, how would they, as cultivators, deal with it?

"While the destruction of the Curly Dragon civilization and the Medicine Fork civilization was regrettable, it was not as thought-provoking as the decline of the Martial Meritocrats civilization!

Su Changfa made a gesture. The Grand Illusionary Land changed again. This time, it was a Sector that was even more prosperous.

Among the more than ten planets, hundreds of sailing routes interweaved with each other like glittering spider threads.

"Now, I will tell you the process of the self-destruction of the third and last civilization, Fellow Cultivator Li!"

Li Yao was refreshed. The destruction of the Curly Dragon civilization and the Medicine Fork civilization had already shocked him. Now that the Martial Meritocrats civilization was the last civilization, there must've been an even more bizarre story behind it!

Li Yao's attitude had already changed. He was not purely interested in the brainwashing methods of the Imperium of True Human Beings. He was also hoping to learn some lessons from the destroyed civilizations of the Cultivators so that he could guide the Xing Yao Federation forward in the future. At the very least, he would be able to point out the wrong paths!

"The Martial Meritocrats civilization was a very typical civilization of Cultivators. They were even luckier than the Curly Dragon civilization and the Medicine Fork civilization. The reserves of resources were neither too high nor too low. The distribution of planets was neither too far nor too close. The enemy was neither too strong nor too weak to devour them in one bite, nor too weak to trigger their spirit of unity, enthusiasm, and sacrifice."

Su Changfa introduced. "All in all, under the leadership of the Cultivators, the pioneers of the Martial Meritocrats civilization fought hard and annihilated many enemies such as demons and extraterrestrial devils, establishing the Alliance of Martial Meritocrats, a powerful country!

"The natives of the Martial Meritocrats Sector were neither addicted to the abundant resources of their mother planet and gradually lost their will and courage like the natives of the Curly Dragon Sector, nor were they obsessed with an 'absolutely sterile world' and forgetting the law of nature like the natives of the Medicine Fork Sector!

"Although they had defeated the enemy before their eyes, they did not lose their will to fight. Instead, by excavating the relics of the Star Ocean Imperium, they realized the vastness of the sea of stars and the fact that countless human beings were still scattered in the three thousand Sectors!

"All human beings are compatriots. Let's march to the sea of stars, find our brothers and sisters, and illuminate the brilliance of our civilization everywhere!

"It was the heartfelt slogan and ideal of every native of the Martial Meritocrats Sector in the golden age!

"Encouraged by such 'noble, great, and righteous' ideas, they strode forward and developed the space cruising technology very smoothly. They produced a space fleet of an enormous scale and gave birth to countless determined experts who were bold enough to march to the grand universe without any hesitation!

"Fellow Cultivator Li, after hearing this, do you feel that the Martial Meritocrats civilization was more balanced, stable, and excellent than the previous two civilizations?"

After pondering for a moment, Li Yao nodded his head.

He felt that the Martial Meritocrats civilization was a duplicate of the Xing Yao Federation from the environment where it was born to the ideas that it upheld.

It was exactly the case for the Federation right now!

However, now that he knew the outcome, there must be fatal problems. The rise and fall of the Martial Meritocrats civilization was of great significance to the Xing Yao Federation. Before Su Changfa opened his mouth, Li Yao asked, "What are the problems of the Martial Meritocrats civilization?"

Su Changfa smiled and said, "The fatal weakness of the Martial Meritocrats civilization is that they adopted a parliamentary system of voting and competition among multiple sects when they established their country!"

Li Yao was greatly alarmed.

Wouldn't it be exactly the same as the Federation?

What was wrong with the voting and parliamentary system?

Seeing his suspicious eyes, Su Changfa said unhurriedly, "The voting and parliamentary system itself is not a big problem. In fact, the Imperium of True Human Beings is very democratic, too. The voting system is implemented in many levels!

"However, how can the right to vote on the national affairs be given to the ignorant hominoids casually?

"In the Imperium, only the citizens who are 'true human beings' have the right to vote. Also, the higher the level of the voting circle, the higher the requirement on the voters will be. Many major policies can only be decided by the Immortal Cultivators in the Core Formation Stage or even the Yuanying Stage!

"Only in such a way can the stability of the country and the rationality of the decisions be ensured!

"However, it is not the case in the Alliance of Martial Meritocrats. What they have implemented is an absurd system of 'one person, one vote, and everybody is equal'. An illiterate homeless man with acne all over his body has one vote. An indolent, swindling gangster has one vote. A well-respected, strong Yuanying Cultivator has only one vote!

"Fellow Cultivator Li, tell me about it. Is there anything more hilarious in the world?"

"Well."

Li Yao scratched his head hard.

Su Changfa sniffed and went on. "The Martial Meritocrats civilization was a civilization that carried out the hypocrisy, shortsightedness, and petty benevolence of the Cultivators to the maximum. The election system of one person, one vote was just one aspect. Also, in terms of laws and social morals, they intentionally raised the rights of the ordinary people and tried to suppress the position of the Cultivators, too!

"The greater the capability, the greater the responsibility!

"The Cultivators are the slaves of the civilization of mankind. They must contribute everything to the civilization of mankind!

"The Cultivators originated from the ordinary people. They must serve the ordinary people unconditionally!

"The ordinary people are water, and the Cultivators are fish. Without the ordinary people, there would be no Cultivators. Every crystal that the Cultivators consumed was the common wealth of mankind. Therefore, the techniques and Cultivation arts that they practiced with the crystals did not belong to the Cultivators themselves but to all mankind!

"Such absurd theories were popular in the civilization of the Martial Meritocrats Sector. They were undeniable 'truths'!"

"All in all, the Cultivators of the Martial Meritocrats civilization had to do the most arduous, exhausting, and dangerous jobs. They had to bear tax rates multiple times higher than the ordinary people's. When the ordinary people were in trouble, they had to offer everything they had to help them unconditionally. All in all, from law to morality, they were required to be out-and-out 'saints'!

"The Cultivators of the Martial Meritocrats Sector, on the other hand, accepted everything after long-term brainwashing and education. They despised themselves and despised themselves. They only knew how to contribute without expecting anything in return!"

Li Yao coughed violently. "One side is willing to be hit, and the other side is willing to be hit. It doesn't seem to be a big problem, does it?"

"If the territory of the Alliance of Martial Meritocrats was limited to the Martial Meritocrats Sector, naturally, it wouldn't be a big problem. After all, all the Cultivators and the ordinary people had the same history, ideology, culture, and values. However outrageous the ordinary people's demands were, they had their boundaries after all.

"Besides, the ordinary people of the Martial Meritocrats Sector fought their way through mountains of daggers and oceans of fire, too. They were not all low-level animals who were lazy and troublemaking. While they demanded high standards from the Cultivators, they also demanded a lot from themselves. Everybody was trying their best to march into the universe, discover more Sectors, and save the 'brothers and sisters of mankind' there!

"The only problem was that they were 'saving the brothers and sisters of more Sectors'!"
