Lei Lan and hundreds of other girls were sent to a mountain in the west of the Gold Crow Kingdom by a bird with a giant blister, where they were trained as nurses in a crash school that had been established temporarily.
A lot of soldiers were also trained together with them.
The nurses and the soldiers cooperated. They had to learn how to detect whether or not the civilians were carrying the Demon God Virus with a newly modified beetle. They also had to learn how to operate thirty-seven different syringes to treat different kinds of demons. They also had to learn how to purge an area with demonic fire spray or frost spray in order to eliminate the hidden problems of the Demon God Virus.
In the crash school, Lei Lan witnessed the horrors of the Demon God Virus for the first time.
The demons who had been infected by the Demon God Virus were not only hideous, but they had also gone mad. Her heart was palpitating with fear.
Days went by. The atmosphere in the crash school was more and more solemn. More and more patients were delivered to the school through the sealed biochemical slots, and they looked more and more hideous.
It was said that after the first patient showed up, the epidemic in the Nether Spring Kingdom had been developing rapidly. In only a few days, several densely populated cities in the north of the Nether Spring Kingdom had all fallen.
In the Gold Crow Kingdom, the Kingdom of Lion Butchers, and even Heavenly Path City, where many different races lived, the epidemic was gradually spreading out.
The Sea Dominator Kingdom was the only country that luckily survived the disaster because the population was sparse and it was difficult for the Demon God Virus to spread in the seawater.
With everything coming to this point, it was impossible to retreat. The teachers in the school all said that it was an unprecedented catastrophe in the history of the Blood Demon Sector and that the virus could only be suppressed if everybody worked together. Otherwise, nobody would be able to escape.
Lei Lan could only suppress the panic in her heart and focus on her studies. She was smart in the first place. She soon became the best intern nurse.
At this moment, more and more nurses and soldiers were coming to the school to learn the skills of the epidemic prevention.
Two months ago, it had only been a temporary class in the mountain, but it soon expanded to tens of thousands of students.
Lei Lan had never expected that. She would run into her brother Lei Chuang, who was her family, in the latest batch of soldiers!
The handsome boy had been craving to join the Coalition Army of Demons since he was little. But eventually, he was bewildered by his big brother Lei Qi, who claimed that he had realized the truth about the Pantheon of Demons and fled to the mountains during the recruitment.
However, when the siblings reunited this time, he was wearing a new military uniform. He became an anti-chemical soldier in the Coalition Army of Demons!
Lei Lan was completely confused by her younger brother.
Lei Chuang brushed the dust off his uniform and told her with a smile that he had indeed joined the Coalition Army of Demons. But before that, he had joined a brand-new organization called Skyfire.
He said that after joining Skyfire, he had learned a lot of things and felt that the whole world had changed. The reason why he joined the Coalition Army of Demons under the arrangement of his superiors was also because he had a mission.
His mission. They were trying to spread the logic among the bottom-level members of the coalition army of demons.
Lei Lan was completely frightened by her brother's "reasoning".
'Human beings and demons are of the same origin', 'demons were transformed from human beings', and 'Ba Yanzhi's story'. The bizarre theories of Zhang Niuer's story did not match the legends of the Pantheon of Demons at all. They were even more outrageous than the fallacious theories of the Blade of Chaos!
Lei Lan's heart palpitated as she listened. She grabbed her brother and did not want him to go out and cause any more trouble. Was it not enough that there was a traitor in the family? Did they have to have a second one?
Now that he had joined the Coalition Army of Demons, he should work hard in the army. That was the right thing to do!
Lei Chuang, however, did not think it was a big deal. He told his sister that Skyfire today was entirely different from the Blade of Chaos years ago. It had the support of the big shots in the government and was semi-public. Many times, the government turned a blind eye to it and even intentionally allowed it to spread in the army.
Not just that, even the arrest warrants that targeted the members of the Blade of Chaos were now just for show. Many former members of the Blade of Chaos had joined Skyfire with fake names. After that, they were able to swagger on the street without anybody catching them.
According to Lei Chuang, their big brother Lei Qi was one of them. He had joined Skyfire together with a lot of other members of the Blade of Chaos. He was even a captain in 'Angry Flame'.
At first, Lei Lan scoffed at her brother's theory. The government was cooperating with the rebels? How was that possible?
However, as the epidemic spread out, and everybody was panicking, the 'same-origin theory' and the 'story of Ba Yanzhi of Chaos' gradually spread out in the school where the soldiers of various tribes were gathered. In the end, it seemed to have become a 'secret' that everybody knew. Even the janitors in the toilets would wink at Lei Lan mysteriously when they saw her and drag her to a corner, whispering, "Did you know that a long, long time ago, there was a man named Ba Yanzhi …"
It was in such a chaotic atmosphere that Lei Lan finished her training. As a qualified nurse, she went to the frontline of the epidemic together with her brother and other anti-chemical soldiers.
After leaving the isolated mountain, the further north they went, the more they felt the destructiveness of the Demon God Virus.
Many cities and towns were empty and had turned into ruins. The bloodstains between the dilapidated walls made them look like tombs that had risen from the ground.
The more serious the epidemic was, the more blatant Skyfire's activities were. In many desolate areas that had been swallowed by the virus, Lei Lan even saw soldiers wearing the emblem of Skyfire working in broad daylight, but the Coalition Army of Demons, who were right next to them, did nothing at all!
Lei Lan gradually got to know another name, 'Saintess Jin Xinyue'.
The further north they went, the more frequently the name popped up. It was said that she was a goddess who was born to save the poor. Her blood had been blessed by all the deities and devils in the universe and boasted amazing abilities to resist the Demon God Virus. She herself had been shuttling through the frontline of the epidemic day and night without any complaints. The noble silver-blood warriors, the humble black-blood warriors, and even the 'filthy' chaotic-blood warriors had all received her meticulous care when the Demon God Virus attacked.
Lei Lan had seen posters of Saintess Jin Xinyue among the broken walls of many towns in the epidemic area.
Jin Xinyue's hair and eyebrows in the posters had been messed up by the fire, and there was nothing but compassion on her face. She was wearing a white robe that was riddled with holes but had been dyed gray by the smoke. She was holding a dying black-blood demon child in her arms. Her eyes and her hands that seemed to have been carved out of jade were a stark contrast to the child's mandibles that were as thin as firewood.
She did not despise the child's filth at all. Instead, she slightly lowered her body and was about to kiss the child's forehead to ease his pain.
Lei Lan was quite confused by the posters.
She remembered clearly that she had seen a saintess named 'Jin Xinyue' before, but the saintess in the posters was vastly different from the saintess in the posters.
This person, just based on the poster, was enough to make people worship her just by looking at the pair of eyes that rippled with infinite compassion.
It was true. Many low-level demons who had lost their homes because of the scourge of the epidemic, and even the bottom-level soldiers in the Coalition Army of Demons, liked to worship the posters of Saintess Jin Xinyue.
There was even an absurd rumor that when the virus came, as long as one thought the name of 'Saintess Jin Xinyue' in their heart, the odds of infection would be reduced.
As a nurse, Lei Lan naturally knew that it was nonsense. But it could not stop the illiterate low-level demons from believing it.
On the necks of many low-level demons. There were even wooden tags and sachets that were carved with the name of 'Saintess Jin Xinyue', which were said to be invulnerable to all poisons.
It was an accident. Lei Lan discovered, to her surprise, that the wooden tags and sachets that were carved with the name of 'Saintess Jin Xinyue' were distributed by the members of Skyfire such as her brother Lei Chuang in secret!
It was not hard to imagine that the rumors about 'Saintess Jin Xinyue' had been spread out by them, too.
Lei Lan could not have been more infuriated. She was so angry that she went to argue with her brother on the spot, asking him why he was doing all those tricks. As an anti-chemical soldier, did he not know the most basic knowledge about virus prevention? How could a few sachets protect her from the most dreadful Demon God Virus?
But her brother simply explained his reasoning with a smile.
"Right now, the Demon God Virus is breaking out everywhere. Everybody in the Blood Demon Sector is panicking. The order in the epidemic area is out of control, and the places outside the epidemic area are in danger, too. In many cases, a rumor is enough to throw a town into extreme panic!
"The antidotes and vaccines for the Demon God Virus are being produced on a large scale. The number of doctors and nurses is seriously insufficient, too. Distant water cannot quench the immediate thirst. It is impossible to control the epidemic in a short time.
"It is true that the wooden tags and sachets, together with the name of 'Saintess Jin Xinyue', cannot cure the disease, but they can at least pacify people, stabilize the order, and give them hope.
"Faced with a catastrophe, order is more important than anything else!
"More importantly, by implanting the name of 'Saintess Jin Xinyue' into everybody's heart in such a way, then, once the vaccines and antidotes are produced on a large scale, everybody will be summoned to receive the vaccination and treatment in the name of the saintess."
Lei Lan was rendered speechless by the theory. She pondered for a long time but failed to come up with a rebuttal. She could only frown and do nothing.
Just like that, they marched forward and entered Gloomy Bone City in the territory of the Nether Spring Kingdom.
Gloomy Bone City was not an epidemic area in the beginning. It was still under the control of the Coalition Army of Demons. It was a logistics base for them to march into the depths of the Nether Spring Kingdom.
Nobody could tell how the virus broke out exactly.
All in all, when Lei Lan realized what was going on, the city was already surrounded by miserable screams, as if the gate of hell had been opened and a large batch of uncontrollable mutants had been set free! —
Sorry, it was even later.
The past ten hours were perhaps the most frightening ten hours of Old Bull's life.
His son had been having a fever since the previous night and had not subsided. He was sent to the children's hospital in the morning. The doctor said that there was nothing wrong and prescribed some medicine for him.
However, after he took the medicine at noon and watched TV listlessly, he suddenly had a cramp and passed out. He even urinated.
Old Bull really did not know how to describe his feelings when he saw that his son was unconscious and the stain of urine was gradually expanding.
Thankfully, there was a big hospital not far away from home. He hurried to take his son there.
Right now, the preliminary diagnosis was' febrile convulsion '. It was a common disease for children to have a high fever. The consequences were not necessarily serious, but the outbreak was indeed appalling.
Right now, his son had to be hospitalized for further observation and further diagnosis to see if it was pure febrile convulsion. Hopefully!
