Chen Ning looked over from the corner of her eyes and found that the back courtyard of the King Ding Yuan Palace was not far away. There were several guards standing at the door and while they were not discovered, she quickly pulled Xiao Ru away. Only when they turned the corner did she let out a sigh of relief.
"We've finally escaped." She patted her chest and took a deep breath.
"Young miss, why did we have to escape?" Xiao Ru was filled with confusion.
Chen Ning couldn't help rolling her eyes at Xiao Ru. She was too lazy to explain and just pulled her hand to quickly leave.
This place was too close to the King Ding Yuan Palace and it was not safe enough. She had to go as far as possible.
As for why she had to escape?
She had caused a mess at Chu Shao Yang's wedding. If she stayed in the king's palace, once Chu Shao Yang realized what had happened, the first person he would find would be her!
She was not stupid, naturally she would not wait there for him to take care of her.
As for where she could escape to, she had not thought of it yet.
She could not go back to the Hu Guo Palace. If she went back, she would definitely be found by Chu Shao Yang's people.
Birds could fly in the sky and fish could swim in the sea. This world was big, was there no place for her?
Chen Ning was not worried at all and her mood was very good. Thinking of Chu Shao Yang and Chen Bi Yun's current appearance, she was like a pig that had eaten ginseng. Every pore on her body was filled with laughter.
After passing through several streets, the surroundings suddenly became very lively.
There was a dense crowd of people in front of them that were all talking about something.
"Ya, something fun must have happened over there. Young miss, let's go take a look."
Xiao Ru had an excited look on her face as she pulled Chen Ning into the crowd.
Squeezing to the front, she saw two children in the middle of the crowd. They looked to be around 7-8 years old, one boy and one girl. The two of them had a straw sign on their heads and they were crying over a body covered in straw.
On the side, there were four words written in yellow mud: Selling my body to bury my father.
The two children were sallow and emaciated, and their clothes were ragged. They cried with snot and tears, which aroused the sympathy of the onlookers. They threw copper coins and silver pieces on the ground one after another.
Xiao Ru sighed and prepared to take out her purse to pay.
"How pitiful, losing their father at such a young age." She sniffled.
Suddenly, with a clang, a silver ingot fell in front of the two children. It shone brilliantly and dazzlingly, immediately causing an uproar among the crowd.
"This person is so generous. He actually took out fifty silver taels in one go!"
People praised and gave a thumbs up to the person who generously donated the money.
It was a tall man wearing black clothes with his back facing Chen Ning and Xiao Ru. Looking at his slender back, he was like a pine tree.
"Nowadays, people are really stupid and rich."
Chen Ning couldn't help shaking her head with a sigh.
Everyone glared at her.
The black clothed man also turned around and a cold light swept across Chen Ning's face.
"Eldest Miss, don't say that. Look at how pitiful these two children are." Xiao Ru was shocked. She quickly pulled on Chen Ning's sleeve and secretly gave her a few copper coins, "Let's give him some money too."
"Yeah, they are so pitiful."
Chen Ning said it was pitiful, but her face was smiling. She didn't have a single bit of pity for the two children.
Xiao Ru had an awkward look on her face. Seeing everyone looking at the young miss, she wanted to reach out with her hands and cover up the smile on the young miss' face.
"Little brother, little sister, is the dead person under the mat your father?"
