Because his qi and blood had not recovered, Zhang Tie's biological clock had automatically extended his sleep time. On the next early morning, Zhang Tie was woken up by Fatty Barley. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw the hazy sky. The last star in the east was still hanging there stubbornly. Resting his head on the hard stone under his sleeping bag, Zhang Tie felt a bit painful.
Seeing that Fatty Barley and Doug had both woken up, Zhang Tie hurriedly drilled out of his sleeping bag and started to pack up his luggage. It was still dark outside, but the horny students had already woken up one after another, preparing for the real survival training.
"I counted just now. More than ten groups of people have already gone down. It's the right time for us to go down now!" Fatty Barley said as he packed up his luggage.
"You woke up early?" Rolling up his sleeping bag, Zhang Tie glanced at Barley.
"Of course, I woke up early. I counted the groups of people that had gone down first and let those guys explore the way. We'll follow behind them. It's not good to be too early or too late."
"This Fatty is too cunning." Zhang Tie praised him inside. However, being brothers with this guy made Zhang Tie feel reassured.
After standing up, Zhang Tie looked towards the place where Glaze's group had slept. As expected, they had already left the mountain. This survival training was Glaze's last chance. Glaze was probably more anxious than anyone else to perform well at this moment.
The seven members of the Hit-Plane Brotherhood quickly packed up their luggage and followed the more than ten groups of people in front of them out of the square outside Wild Wolf Castle. From the square of the castle to the valley, there was a path paved with gravel, which was more than 200 m long. It coiled around the mountain and reached the valley. There were two other groups of people that had come down with Zhang Tie's group, but they soon parted ways with Zhang Tie's group. From this moment on, to some extent, they were competitors. This was because there were only a limited number of suitable places to live in and food to be obtained, which could only be obtained through luck and competition.
On the first day of the survival trial, finding a suitable place to settle down became the first test for everyone in the trial.
In the wild, a suitable place to settle down had to meet three conditions. First, it had to be close to a clean water source. Second, it had to be safe. Third, it had to be convenient for everyone to gather enough food in the future.
The advantage of being close to the castle was that it was safe enough, and there was a clean water source near the castle. However, it was very difficult to obtain enough food. Therefore, in previous trials, most people chose to camp within a range of one to seven kilometers from the castle. There were also some people who thought that they were strong or teams with a larger number of people who would camp further away.
Holding an axe, Bagdad opened the way in the front, followed by Doug, Barley, Zhang Tie, Hista, and Sharwin. Leit was the last one. Everybody took out their own weapons and carefully walked into the valley. They had to be careful. The moment they walked down the path, Doug had stepped on a pile of excrement left by an unknown wild beast. It seemed that it had been left there last night. Hearing Doug's curses, everybody's heart pounded. They once again reminded themselves that this was the Wild Wolf Valley, not Blackhot City.
After moving forward for two hundred meters, Sharwin found a water willow. Therefore, he picked a few willow twigs and asked them to chew on them as a way to rinse their mouths. In the wild, everything had to be simple. In the early morning, the temperature in the valley was a bit low. There was even a thin layer of fog. There were also some dew on the leaves and grasses. Only after walking for a short while, their pants and clothes had already been half soaked.
Early in the morning, an unknown bird was standing on a tree and chirping. Its chirping could be heard very far in the valley and could even be heard echoing, making the valley even more tranquil.
After entering less than five hundred meters into the valley, they met the first wolf that they had seen in this survival training. The sound of Bagdad waving his axe to clear the way alerted a resting wolf in the grasses twenty meters away. That wolf suddenly stood up from the grasses and glanced at the others. Before they could react, it turned around and quickly disappeared into the jungle.
Seeing this wolf, everybody couldn't help but tighten their grip on their weapons.
After moving forward for another kilometer, they found a five-meter-wide river. The water was so clear that they could see the pebbles and water grasses at the bottom of the river. A shoal of small fish was happily swimming among the water grasses.
"I think we should go deeper into the valley along this river. It would be great if we could find a suitable place to live!" Bagdad suggested.
"Fine!" Everybody agreed. Therefore, they went deeper into the valley along the river. After moving for another kilometer, they passed by an abandoned mine. Around the mine, there were at least dozens of round caves. The two groups in front of them had already chosen to settle in this mine. Looking at the huge, round caves on the cliffs and mountain ridges, Doug asked curiously, "Why are there so many strange caves on the cliffs?"
"It's said that there used to be some Gold-Eating Boas in the Wild Wolf Valley. Those pits were dug by the Gold-Eating Boas themselves. Later on, those Gold-Eating Boas were killed by someone and those pits were left here …" Sharwin said.
"Caves of gold-eating boas?" Doug asked with a shocked expression. Everybody stared at the round caves on the cliffs and mountain ridges, which were smaller than one meter in height and larger than three meters in diameter. They all forcefully swallowed their saliva. If these caves basically matched the bodies of the gold-eating boas, then the bodies of the gold-eating boas must be terrifying and long. Just thinking about it made them feel hopeless. Looking at those dark caves, Zhang Tie suddenly felt his legs go soft.
"Of course, don't you know?" Sharwin asked out of curiosity.
"How did you know that?" Leit asked Sharwin with a pale face.
"From the local gazetteer of Blackhot City …" Sharwin said naturally, "When Doug asked me about those caves, I remembered that the local gazetteer of Blackhot City seemed to have recorded something about the Wild Wolf Valley. It was more than 30 years ago. At that time, in order to kill the gold-eating boas, the entire Blackson Human Clan Corridor was shocked. Hearing the news, many powerhouses rushed over from all directions. Later on, with the cooperation of the army and many powerhouses, they finally killed all the gold-eating boas here at a great cost. Additionally, they also discovered an iron mine and a high-quality crystal mine in the caves dug out by the gold-eating boas. After dozens of years, the crystal mine has almost been mined out and is now worthless. Previously, there were some iron mines here, but after the discovery of the Grang Iron Mine, due to the high cost of mining here and the inferior quality of the iron ores, the other iron mines here were gradually abandoned. That's why you can see so many abandoned mines in the Wild Wolf Valley. Since the gold-eating boas were killed, the wild wolves here became more and more out of balance. Later on, seeing that there were so many wild wolves here, we named this place Wild Wolf Valley …"
Except for Sharwin, no one in the Hit-Plane Brotherhood would be bored enough to read the local gazetteer of Blackhot City. Although Sharwin was talking about something that had happened more than 30 years ago, everybody still felt goosebumps all over.
"If those people didn't kill all the gold-eating boas and a small one escaped …" Doug smacked his lips.
With a gulp, all the horny students swallowed their saliva. Looking at those caves again, they decided that they would rather die than live in them.
"I think we'd better not go too deep. Let's go forward for another 2 km. If we don't find any suitable ones, we'll come back …" Fatty Barley said solemnly.
Everybody hurriedly nodded their heads, including Bagdad. When they thought of the huge snakes and monsters that could even eat stones and could reach up to 100 meters in length, they all felt that Wild Wolf Valley was somehow a bit gloomy.
Finally, after nearly four hours of searching, at noon, the seven members of the Hit-Plane Brotherhood finally found an unexpected resting place about 5 km away from Wild Wolf Castle. It was a dragon-claw tree with a diameter of more than 10 m beside a small piece of bamboo forest. Not knowing whether it was a mutated species after the Catastrophe or not, the dragon-claw tree was definitely the thickest and largest dragon-claw tree that they had ever seen. It was only more than 50 m high, and its crown was like a cloud, covering an area of several mu. Originally, they had just wanted to take a rest here, but unexpectedly, they found a hole in the middle of the huge tree, which was covered with lumps all over. Climbing up, Bagdad found that the space inside the hole was very spacious and could easily accommodate three people. What was more amazing was that someone had clearly lived inside the hole. It must have been a guy who had come here to attend the survival training. Seeing this, everybody became excited. They all climbed up the huge dragon-claw tree and found that it was a bit smaller than the previous one. It could barely accommodate one person. Although the dragon-claw tree looked vigorous on the outside, the wood in the middle of the tree had already decayed as if it had been struck by lightning. Inside the tree hole, one could easily grab a lot of wood shavings.
"Why can't we transform this Dragon-Claw Tree into a base for the seven of us?" Leit's words ignited everyone's enthusiasm. Now, the tree hole seemed to be able to accommodate four people, and it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to remodel it. Therefore, everyone got to work, one by one starting to move.
The renovation plan was divided into two steps. The first step was to expand the space inside the two tree holes as much as possible. The first tree hole was a bit larger. Aside from leaving enough space for four people to lie down, it was also necessary to leave enough space to store their equipment and food. The second tree hole was a bit larger. As long as the second tree hole was as large as the first one, it would be able to hold three people. By then, the base for the seven members of the Hit-Plane Brotherhood would be basically formed.
After expanding the inner space of the two tree holes, Zhang Tie could carry out the second modification, which was to open up the upper and lower spaces between the two tree holes, leaving an "N" -shaped tunnel and space in the middle of the two tree holes. At least two or three people could sleep in this "N" -shaped space. Therefore, nobody would feel cramped in it.
Since they had learned some elementary carpentry skills at school, they didn't need to be beautiful or delicate. They just needed to do it without any hesitation.
Waving Bagdad's axe and Zhang Tie's and Leit's multi-purpose engineer's shovels, wood shavings flew everywhere. In just over two hours, the transformation of the first layer of the tree hole was completed.
Seeing the broken wood pieces falling from the tree hole, Barley cried out, "Ah, don't throw them away. These dried wood pieces can be used for cooking. In the next few weeks, we won't have to worry about not having enough firewood …"
