The mist behind the barrier dispersed, and a flight of stairs appeared in front of them.
The stairs were like a bridge that connected the sky to the divine residence. One end of the stairs was at the end of the garden, and the other end was outside of the divine residence palace.
The world inside the immortal abode was like the void of outer space. Lonely palaces floated like islands, mysterious and magnificent. Immortal formations of starlight flickered in and out of existence in the void.
Inside the immortal abode, there was no ethereal immortal energy or beautiful scenery surrounded by immortal music as everyone imagined. Instead, there was a strange kind of tranquility and loneliness.
It was as if the place was already a wasteland!
"The divine residence … doesn't seem to be any closer to us!"
"It must be the power of some law. No, it might be a deeper power that we can't understand …"
"Why do I sense the air of death? My Gluttonous Ghost seems to be scared of something. Something is hiding here!"
"There might be ancient barriers in the divine residence. Be careful," someone reminded them.
All the Star Lords were shocked and solemn. They didn't see any danger, but they felt creepy, as if they had entered a graveyard in the middle of the night.
"There's another barrier!"
Inside the small world — Su Ping's eyes glittered as he captured the pattern of an invisible array.
At this moment, the two Star Lords who were cracking the barrier changed their expressions too. One of them said in a low voice, "There's another barrier!"
"Huh?"
Several Star Lords were stunned and slightly changed their expressions.
The others, on the other hand, didn't reveal any surprise, as if they had also noticed it.
"Now that you've taken the items, let's crack them together!" said one of the Star Lords.
The others nodded too, not wanting the two of them to raise the price again.
The two of them didn't raise the price again, mainly because they could see that the barrier wasn't as complicated as the previous ones; it was just an ancient illusion.
"Let me do it," said the round-faced man.
Said the rotund Star Lord. He immediately took action to break the array.
Astral patterns appeared and matched the runes in the void, as if keys had been inserted. Starlight interweaved like a plate.
The ancient illusion was gone in no more than a quarter of an hour.
As the formation dissipated, the world before his eyes seemed to have been pulled away like a curtain, revealing its true appearance.
The moment they saw the real scene, the originally noisy crowd instantly fell into a dead silence.
Everyone held their breaths and widened their eyes in disbelief.
The scene before him hadn't changed at all!
It was still the same palaces and the same old, bridge-like steps.
However, the only change was that corpses were strewn all over the place in the void that was like space!
These corpses had all died in battle, or rather, they had died tragically!
Some of them were tiny human corpses and severed limbs. Their blood had long since congealed and dried up. Some of them were the corpses of giant beasts that were as tall as mountains. The blood on their fur had long since hardened!
Some of the corpses had already turned into empty, grayish-white skeletons, and some were half-rotten.
This quiet land of immortals was actually littered with corpses!
Everyone felt their scalps go numb. Was this the true scene inside the immortal abode?
Some of the more timid Star State warriors were trembling and losing their strength.
Su Ping slightly changed his expression and became solemn. What exactly happened inside this ancient divine abode? Did the corpses perish together with the divine abode, or were they the bodies of the intruders?
Far in the distance — the rogue cultivators who had been fighting for the deity ground in the garden approached; they were all suffocated by the scene, unable to say a word.
The silence lasted for several minutes. A Star Lord took the lead and said, "Now that the barrier has been broken, I'll take my leave!" Then, he jumped into the void and entered the area where the corpses were floating.
He waved his astral power and pushed the floating, still corpses to the outside of the divine abode.
The corpses were easily pushed away by him; they were indeed inanimate objects.
Seeing that someone was taking action, the others came back to their senses. Although they were shocked and scared, they were still tempted by the ultimate treasures inside the divine abode. All of them quickly flew into the divine abode.
The world behind the barrier was quite large; they were no longer alone; they could all search for treasures on their own.
Boom!!
Suddenly, a clap of thunder burst out, followed by a roar.
Everybody looked over, only to see that the Star Lord who had taken the lead had flown to the top of the cliff. Then, a bolt of lightning appeared in the void in front of him and smashed him back.
The Star Lord had to perform several astral spells to disperse the lightning, but he was still knocked back hundreds of meters.
"What's going on?"
Everybody was shocked by the sudden lightning. Apart from Su Ping and the purple-robed young man, the weakest of them was at the Star State. They were all knowledgeable and could easily tell that the lightning contained a strange Heavenly Tribulation power. It wasn't a regular lightning power.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The Star Lords pushed the floating corpses to the edge of the cliff. One of them immediately noticed the anomaly and said, "There seems to be a strange law that has blocked this space. No, to be more precise, this is a space of another world. Entry is forbidden!"
"How is it possible? The small world collapses when people die, unless the owner of this space is still alive …"
"Maybe he dug out the small world and sealed it here when he was still alive. Maybe … this is a small world that the owner of this divine residence created."
"I'm told that the small worlds of the World of Gods exist forever. That should be the case."
The Star Lords gathered near the cliff and whispered to each other.
"Why are the corpses still intact?"
Suddenly, someone noticed that there were a large number of corpses floating above the cliff. There were all kinds of dragon corpses, phoenix corpses, human corpses, and the corpses of giant beasts. However, they were all incomplete. Some of their wings were broken, and some of their hearts were smashed with a big hole. Their flesh and blood were all dried up, and they looked like specimens made of molten iron.
"Weird …"
"Is it because they're dead? This law can distinguish between life and death. It seems that it's not a single law, but a complete path that includes many different laws. "
"Let me have a try."
A Star Lord suddenly took action. A creature with a horrifying undead aura appeared next to him; it was made of rotten flesh and bones.
The battle pet roared, and several skeletons crawled out of the ground next to its feet. The skeletons had wings on their backs and sabers in their hands; they were all strong, advanced skeletons.
Also, the summoning didn't use the corpses on the ground; it was an advanced summoning technique.
Whoosh!
The summoned skeletons instantly flew towards the cliff.
However, as soon as they got close, several bolts of lightning were generated from the void and smashed the skeletons into pieces; their remains fell to the depths of the cliff.
A cold wind was blowing from the depths of the cliff, as if some horrifying being was blowing at them, making their hair stand on end.
"They're all undead creatures. Why is it so?"
The Star Lords who had made some speculations frowned when they saw that.
The summoned skeletons were no different from dead creatures, yet they could trigger a Heavenly Tribulation. That was quite weird.
Inside the small world —
Su Ping frowned and stared at the floating corpses with a horrifying look in his eyes.
"This isn't a divine residence; it feels no different from hell."
"So many corpses have been preserved to this day. Is it because of the barriers, or were the corpses so horrifying that they didn't rot after death?"
Shennong's Three Punches and the others discussed in a low voice; they were all shocked to see the corpses around them.
"Those corpses … seem to have all committed suicide."
Su Ping gazed outside with cold air rising from his palms.
Outside of the small world — many Star Lords had tried all kinds of methods. Some of them grasped the law of darkness and tried to hide their aura with the power of the undead, but the Heavenly Tribulation still detected them and forced them back.
Some tried to resist the Heavenly Tribulation with their own strength, but it was fine at first; the Heavenly Tribulation was much more powerful after dozens of meters, and they had to retreat.
"Huh? There's also a Heavenly Tribulation on the stairs over there, but it seems to be much weaker. "
At this moment, a Star Lord noticed the stairs over the abyss.
Some Star Lords had already climbed up the stairs and walked to the opposite side.
A Heavenly Tribulation appeared on the stairs, but it was less powerful and could be resisted.
Seeing that, the others all went to the stairs and climbed up one after another.
Boom!
After a Star Lord stepped out, a fierce Heavenly Tribulation struck him; it was as powerful as the one on the cliff nearby.
The Star Lord's face changed greatly. He hurried to resist it, but was forced back.
The other Star Lords were confused to see that, as the Heavenly Tribulation that the Star Lord before suffered was far less intense.
Boom!
Another Star Lord was also hit by a Heavenly Tribulation, but it was easily resisted.
"Haha. I told you I was lucky, but you didn't believe me!" The Star Lord was exactly the leader of the Ouhuang Alliance. He easily resolved the Heavenly Tribulation and laughed at the man who had been forced back.
With that, he strode forward.
The other Star Lords looked at each other in bewilderment. Was it really a matter of luck?
The Star Lord who had been forced back had an awful expression. He hurried forward again, but this time, he was faced with the same violent Heavenly Tribulation as before!
"What's going on?"
The Star Lord couldn't help but roar in fury.
Damn it. I can't take it anymore!
He was unlucky the first time, but why did it happen twice in a row?
Were the Heavenly Tribulations so easy to deal with nowadays?
"Let me tell you, it has to do with your looks," said the leader of the Thousand Feathers Alliance casually.
At the side, the alliance leader of the Thousand Feather Alliance calmly spoke. He had already reached the sixth step and at this moment, he had only encountered the first lightning tribulation. However, the might of the lightning tribulation wasn't great and was easily dispersed by him.
"Haha. I think so too." The leader of the Overlord Alliance, who was also a female overlord, laughed.
Although her body was strong and sturdy, her face was devastatingly beautiful and could suppress all living things.
"Is that so?"
The leader of the Heavenly Fist Alliance was suspicious. He had also encountered a violent Heavenly Tribulation the moment he stepped on the stairs. Was it really related to his looks?
He immediately controlled his bones and adjusted his face. Very soon, his face became deeper and his eyebrows straightened. He then stepped on the stairs again.
Boom!
Another violent Heavenly Tribulation appeared and forced him back again.
"Damn it!"
The leader of the Heavenly Fist Alliance was rather angry. Was it really that unfair?
Aren't Heavenly Tribulations dead?
Everybody in the small worlds was also surprised. The situation on the stairs was too weird. Some Star Lords didn't encounter any Heavenly Tribulations until they reached the tenth step, while others were targeted the moment they stepped on the stairs. It was obvious that the Heavenly Tribulations weren't random.
There seemed to be a pattern, and they were targeting certain people!
"That's not right. Why can they do it?"
"Damn it!"
Many Star Lords who had been targeted by the stairs stomped their feet in fury.
It wouldn't have been a big deal if they had been treated the same way.
However, they were the ones being targeted, which was quite infuriating!
They were anxious as they watched the others stride forward. If things went on like that, the treasures inside would be taken away first.
The two Star Lords who had cracked the barriers were gloomy too. They had been targeted by the Heavenly Tribulation too; they had only climbed three or four steps when they encountered it. The deeper they went, the more powerful the Heavenly Tribulation would be.
They felt that they would be killed by the Heavenly Tribulations if they kept going.
The Heavenly Tribulations were even more powerful than the ones they had experienced as Star Lords. They were still far from reaching the other side.
"What's the difference between us and them?"
"Is it because of their backgrounds?"
"That's not right. How can the Lightning Tribulation distinguish one's origin? Besides, their origins are not the same. As far as I know, the leader of the Ouhuang Alliance and the leader of the Thousand Feathers Alliance are from two different places and galaxies!"
"Strange, could it be that they have all eaten the same thing before?"
"How is that possible?"
"Wait, does the Heavenly Tribulations target people based on their strength? The stronger they are, the fiercer the Heavenly Tribulations they'll run into? Wasn't it the same when we went through the Heavenly Tribulations? "
"Huh? That does make sense. So to speak, those who were forced to descend are all strong? "
"Why do I feel relieved when you put it that way? Speaking of which, don't tell me it's the other way around. If the Heavenly Tribulations are stronger for the weaker ones, then …"
The helpless Star Lords could only stand in front of the stairs anxiously.
Very soon, the leaders of the Thousand Feathers Alliance, the Overlord Alliance and the others retreated one after another. More and more leaders were forced to retreat by the strengthened Heavenly Tribulations.
The leader girl was still stubbornly moving forward on the stairs.
The Heavenly Tribulations she was going through were already horrifying; they contained a horrifying will of laws. Everybody in the small world, including Su Ping, was scared.
Su Ping wasn't scared of the Heavenly Tribulations; he was more worried that the girl couldn't handle them.
Moreover, the state of the corpses here gave him a creepy feeling, as if he was being watched by something.
"Damn it!"
The girl finally couldn't hold on any longer when she reached the 38th step; she was forced to retreat by the Heavenly Tribulations.
She looked at the divine residence in front of her. It seemed to be thousands of kilometers away when she had looked at it from another place, but it was only a hundred steps away when she looked at it from the stairs!
However, these mere hundred steps were as difficult as ascending the heavens!
