Chapter 10

Words:1582Update:22/06/26 07:29:50

Report

The morning of early December was a little cold. Today, the Bennett Castle was very busy. After waking up in the morning, the servants were busy cleaning the carriage. The two horses pulling the carriage were also fed with soybeans, and sky blue ornaments were hung on the horses' bodies. The servants were busy fixing their weapons, tidying up their leather armor and boots. The Knight of Bennett's warhorse was also carefully groomed and replaced with a luxurious saddle.

When Abel brought his box out of his room with the servants, a noble guard of honor consisting of 6 spearmen and a not-so-luxurious but very clean carriage was already waiting in front of the castle.

The spearmen were wearing the same sky blue cloth armor, half-high leather boots, and a sky blue cloth hat. They held a 3 meter long spear in their hands. Of all their equipment, only this 3 meter long spear was a real military item. The rest of their equipment was made by the tailors of the castle. The cloth armor could at most allow the arrow to be extracted from the body more easily, but it couldn't block the arrow, let alone the cloth hat that was used to protect against the cold. The 2 spearmen standing at the front had 2 flags hanging from the tip of their spears. On the flags were the images of the Family Bennett's Thorny Shield.

The carriage wasn't overly decorated, but the curtains and doors were changed to sky blue. Sky blue was the main color of the Thorny Shield, so on official occasions, everyone in the castle would wear sky blue as their main color.

When Abel was loading the box into the carriage, his father, the Knight of Bennett, rode out of the castle on a warhorse. Behind him was his mother, Nala, whose eyes were full of tears. His brother was supporting her on the side.

The Knight of Bennett looked very solemn. The shining silver armor on his body reflected rays of cold light under the sunlight. He didn't wear a helmet on his head. Instead, his helmet, shield, and greatsword were hanging on the side of the saddle. His hair was tied into a simple ponytail, and when the cold wind blew, his hair kept dancing in the wind.

The shield hanging on the outermost part of the saddle was covered with the sky blue Thorny Shield Emblem, and it complemented the sky blue sheath of the greatsword.

His mother didn't say anything, as if she had said everything she wanted to say last night. She just looked at Abel like she was looking at the most beautiful treasure in the world.

Big brother Zach knew that Abel would leave the castle one day. It was a tradition, and no one would go against it. That was why he always cared about and loved his only brother, but he didn't expect this day to come so soon. Zach walked in front of Abel and hugged Abel. He was so strong that even Abel, who was at the same level as him, felt the pressure.

"Remember to come back when you have time. This is your home." Zach, who was usually very talkative, didn't say much at this moment. However, this affectionate sentence made Abel's originally calm heart almost lose control.

The winter morning sun didn't make people feel warm. The wind was a little strong, and the banner with the emblem of the family's Thorny Shield fluttered in the wind. Abel didn't sit in the carriage. Instead, he rode in the middle of the group on his almost three year old steed. The armor that his father gave him was too big. At this moment, he was wearing a leather armor lined with wool. He carried a light longsword on his back. The sword was actually too light for him. This gift from his father wasn't very practical for him, who was already at level 4.

Abel looked back at his mother, Nala, who was still in front of the castle, and Zach, who was supporting her. He immediately turned his head back. He was afraid that if he looked back again, his tears would fall uncontrollably.

When they left, there weren't many people. Because they had to leave behind some attendants and guards, they only brought six spearmen, one coachman, the Knight of Bennett, and Abel. After the Knight of Bennett left the castle, Norman, who had followed Abel to Fort Lee, stayed behind to protect the castle as the second strongest person in the territory.

It was important to note that the Knight of Bennett was the lowest level of nobility. Not everyone had the qualifications to be a Knight's attendant. Loyalty, reliability, strength, and status were all important requirements.

Just like Norman in the Bennett family, he had fought bravely with the knights on the battlefield. After his loyalty was recognized by the knights, he found a secret warrior technique from the family inheritance and taught it to him. This allowed him to become an official warrior, and his status was upgraded from an ordinary guard to a knight's attendant, a status that was higher than the average civilian.

Many wandering Knights wanted to find an opportunity to become a Knight's attendant. From this, one could see the status of a Knight's attendant. After a Knight's attendant gave his loyalty, the Knight had to be responsible for all the attendant's expenses, including weapons, armor, and family arrangements. Therefore, no matter if it was the attendant or the Knight, they had to be very careful when accepting an attendant. In the next battle, the attendant might save or harm you.

The caravan traveled for a full six hours. Other than the half-hour break at noon, the rest of the time, the caravan continued to move forward. Along the way, no one dared to disturb the noble caravan that was led by a knight. Even the beasts could feel that the Knight of Bennett was like a dormant volcano that could erupt at any time, so they avoided the caravan.

This was the furthest Abel had ever been from home. Whether it was the 11 years in his memory, or the 2 years since he came to this world. Because it was winter, the scenery on the road was not attractive. There were only a few evergreen plants dotting the dark ground.

Luckily, it wasn't snowing. Although these dirt roads were a little dusty when people and horses walked on them, it was still much better than the muddy roads after rain or snow. Abel heard that the roads in the bustling areas were paved with large pieces of rock, which reminded him of the concrete roads on Earth.

Abel thought that if he could make cement, the roads would be as hard as the roads paved with rocks. He patted himself on the head and told himself to stop thinking about those inventions. If he didn't have enough power, he would hurt himself and his family. It was just like how the Knight of Bennett put the castle water system on the back of his mind.

As a person who had received a modern education, Abel could clearly feel that his mind was much more active than the teenager in his memory, and even more active than when he was on Earth. This was also the reason why he was able to master the skills of a Knight so quickly. Not only the skills of a Knight, but also other noble etiquette and cultural knowledge. Sometimes, he couldn't help but wonder if this was a benefit of his body.

The road in front of them turned from dirt to gravel, and the surface was much smoother. The Knight of Bennett turned around and pointed at the road in front of them and said to Abel, "This is the special characteristic of the Knight Marshall. He is very prideful. He wants everything to be the best. If it wasn't for the fact that this is a flat plain, and there are no mountains to mine for boulders, he would have made this road a boulder road."
