A Tournament Without Victory
On the eighth day of the Golden Finger Cup, the emergency life-support repair event.
Xia Fei only returned to his dormitory early in the morning after a busy night. He went into the bathroom to take a shower before heading to the venue. He took out the strange egg and placed it on the table. Due to the lack of time, Xia Fei did not have the time to find someone to confirm what it was, so he kept it with him for now.
Xia Fei turned on the faucet, and the cool water splashed down, making him feel very comfortable.
There was a waterproof computer installed in the bathroom. Xia Fei turned it on and checked the progress of the tournament.
"You haven't participated in the competition for five days, and Constantine has already surpassed you by 943 points. Li Mo is even ahead by 1,020 points. Looks like you have no hope of winning the twenty-four all-around events this time," Phantom said after looking at the results.
Xia Fei smiled. "Actually, my main goal this time is to promote the energy-shield booster. I'll be fine as long as I don't make any mistakes in the warship modification event. The other events aren't that important."
Phantom replied, "How is it not important? Li Mo is the one who took the initiative to challenge you. It'll be too embarrassing if you lose."
Xia Fei did not say anything. Of course, he did not want to lose to the pampered man, but things had already come to this. All he could do was try his best. The result was not the final goal, for the game was far from over.
Avril came as promised. Xia Fei had a simple breakfast with her in the participant's cafeteria before heading to the venue. Avril was very fond of the commoner's food. Anyone who was used to eating delicacies would want to have a change of taste, and Xia Fei was even more so, for he had always had a good appetite.
Someone was making a ruckus outside the venue. Xia Fei walked over and saw Chen Dong arguing with the staff.
Xia Fei called out Chen Dong's name. "What's going on? Arguing early in the morning isn't good for your health."
Chen Dong grunted angrily. "These people are saying that I'm not dressed properly, so they won't let me in."
Chen Dong was wearing his usual baggy pants. His muscular upper body was bare, with a string of black beads hanging in front of his chest, giving him a rough and valiant look.
This was Chen Dongs usual attire. Ever since Xia Fei met Chen Dongs, he had always worn this way, be it spring, summer, autumn, or winter.
Xia Fei chuckled. "This is the capital, after all, so it's only natural that there are more rules here than in the Endaro Star Region. It's not like you'll die if you wear some clothes. There are a few ladies over there who keep staring at you, and it seems like they're very interested in you."
Following Xia Fei's line of sight, there were indeed several women dressed in gorgeous clothes staring at him lecherously. Chen Dong shuddered. Chen Dong had never been able to do anything to women. Though he was a big man, taller when standing, longer when lying down, and fiercer than others when fighting, he was most afraid of women, so much so that he would stammer when talking to them.
"If you say so, I'll put on some clothes," Chen Dong said reluctantly.
Xia Fei and Avrils could not help but chuckle as he took out a white singlet from his spatial ring and put it on. The singlet was very short, revealing his eight abdominal muscles, so it did not make much of a difference whether he wore it or not.
What was more interesting was that there was a giraffe embroidered on the singlet, which looked like something a child would wear.
It was impossible for a person to be good at everything. Chen Dong, an outstanding warrior, could be considered a genius when it came to martial arts, but he was completely clueless when it came to trifling matters like eating and dressing. Who knew where he had randomly bought this singlet from? It was obviously a children's version of clothing, yet he could not tell.
Xia Fei asked, "Where's your guild uniform? We're all members of the Adjudicator Union, so it's more appropriate for us to wear our uniforms on formal occasions."
Chen Dong took out his uniform and put it on after hearing Xia Fei's words. His looks were quite attractive to women, and with his well-built muscles, he naturally attracted quite a few playboys to change his clothes in broad daylight. Seeing how Chen Dong was wrapped up in his clothes, these women walked away in disappointment, and Chen Dong felt a lot more comfortable because of it.
Avrils could not help but chuckle, leaning close to Xia Fei's ear and whispering, "This friend of yours sure is interesting."
Xia Fei did not say anything and very calmly introduced Avrils to Chen Dong. Though Chen Dong was a carefree person, he was still from an upper-class family, after all, so his etiquette was decent and polite to Avrils.
Naturally, no one stopped Chen Dong, who was wearing the Adjudicator uniform, from entering the venue. Chen Dong, Avrils, Pang Xing, and the others entered the seats through the audience entrance, while Xia Fei entered the first floor through the contestants' entrance.
The contestants' lounge was crowded. There was still some time before the start of the tournament, and the passageway to the venue had yet to open, so the contestants could only wait in the lounge.
Constantine stood in the western corner, looking very unsociable, so the contestants deliberately avoided him.
Xia Fei thought for a moment before walking over to his side. "You're quite quiet here."
Constantine stared at Xia Fei for a few moments before asking, "It's been five days. Where have you been? You won't have the chance to compete with me this time."
Xia Fei laughed. "Your performance isn't that great, either. Li Mo is still nearly a hundred points ahead of you."
Constantine said disdainfully, "Everyone has their own specialties. The tournament these few days happened to coincide with the one I'm not good at. The tournament isn't over yet, so it's still too early to tell the result."
"Early? Why do I feel like it's not early at all? "
Xia Fei did not turn around. He knew very well that this voice belonged to Li Mo.
"What I want is mine, and what I don't want is also mine. What a shame. Though the tournament isn't over yet, the result has already been decided," Li Mo said as he walked over to Xia Fei and Constantine's side, his attitude arrogant.
The corner of Li Mo's lips curled up slightly as he said to Xia Fei, "What a shame. The creator of two full marks is actually in last place in the tournament. I thought you'd be a decent opponent, but it turns out that you're just a coward. How have you been these few days?"
Xia Fei chuckled. "I don't have to worry about how I've been, young master Li. Rather, have you been sleeping well?"
* Whoosh! *
Li Mo's eyebrows furrowed as he coldly harrumphed. "It's you? You're the one who killed my celestial concubine?! "
Xia Fei spread his arms innocently. "Young master Li, why don't I understand what you're saying?"
"Celestial concubine is a purebred mare that I'm rearing. Someone killed her this morning and threw her head into the swimming pool. Did you do it?!" Li Mo asked angrily.
Xia Fei replied, "Your manor is heavily guarded, and I don't have the ability to do so. However, I still have to give you a friendly reminder. Since this person killed your horse, there's no telling if he'll do you harm one day. Young master Li, you should be more careful. After all, it's hard to predict a person's heart. Just because a young master looks nice on the surface doesn't mean he's a good person. "
Constantine, who was beside him, also chimed in. "Xia Fei is right. If I were that person, I wouldn't have killed a horse and would have a chat with young master Li instead."
Xia Fei and Constantine did not have much of a relationship, but Li Mo had been too arrogant, so they had mocked him together to share a common enemy.
Li Mo's face was ashen as he turned to leave. Though he did not say anything harsh, it was not hard to tell from his gaze that Li Mo was already holding a grudge against both Xia Fei and Constantine.
"Xia Fei, I've already said that it's not a good thing to alert the enemy. Now that Li Mo has been frightened, it'll be even more difficult for you to take his life in the future," Phantom said as he watched Li Mo's back.
Xia Fei disagreed. "Do you think he'll be nervous?"
Phantom replied, "Of course. You've killed his horse right under his nose. Anyone in his shoes would be terrified. I'm afraid he'll be so tense for the time being that he won't be able to eat or sleep well."
Xia Fei chuckled. "That's exactly what I want. As for the reason, you'll find out very soon."
Phantom helplessly shook his head. Xia Fei was not an impulsive person, so he must have his reasons for doing what he did. It was just that intimidation was not something an assassin would do. Under normal circumstances, Phantom preferred to settle his problems cleanly, and he was also worried that Li Mo would make a move on Xia Fei a second time.

The life support system was one of the most important components of a warship. If the air purification unit could not produce oxygen, humans would not be able to survive in the vast sea of stars, let alone attack others.
The morning's event was set in an uninhabited space. The life support system of the warship was suddenly damaged, and the contestants had to repair it within three hours, or else they would die from suffocation.
Constantine was the first to complete the event, with Li Mo right behind him. Constantine was able to repair the system faster, so he got 130 points, while Li Mo was right behind him with 112 points.
Xia Fei took two hours and twenty-one minutes to complete the event. He was considered the slowest among all the contestants, but his score was as high as 165 points. Not only did he repair the air purification system, but he had also resolved the potential crisis of the gravity regulator and the freshwater collection system. The old men from the organizing committee were so happy that they gave Xia Fei another full score of 50 points.
The event was intense. Xia Fei used 120% of his combat power and gave it his all, clinching first place six times in a row.
Li Mo and Constantine performed outstandingly under Xia Fei's provocation. Although their score was not as high as Xia Fei's, it was not too far behind. More than half of the tournament had passed, and Xia Fei was still more than 700 points behind Li Mo and Constantine.
The full score for each event was 120 points. Even if Xia Fei managed to get all the extra points from the organizing committee, there was no way he could turn the tables in the remaining events.
However, Xia Fei's outstanding performance still caught the attention of the audience and the organizing committee. They all felt that it was a pity that Xia Fei had already lost the chance to win the Golden Finger Cup after missing more than ten events.
…
Back in the dormitory, Uncle Porter had a serious expression on the screen.
"Xia Fei, the warship modification event tomorrow is of utmost importance. I know you really want to win the championship, but you must remember that your biggest goal is to promote the energy-shield booster. That's the most important thing."
Xia Fei nodded. "I understand. Don't worry, uncle. I heard that the warship modification event has slightly more points than the regular events."
Uncle Porter said, "That's why I'm reminding you. I've watched the events for the past few days, and I noticed that you're holding back your anger, trying to make up for the loss you suffered in the last five days. It's good to have motivation, but you must remember that the competition requires passion, and you also need to maintain a calm heart. This is something I've learned over the years."
Xia Fei was slightly surprised. "I understand, uncle. Thanks for reminding me. I'll keep that in mind."
