Assimilation of Sentient Species
Forcefully stuffing three engines, two reactors, and a battleship gravity system into the spacious and luxurious cabin of the Tomahawk once again turned into a mess.
Fortunately, both Xia Fei and Phantoms were used to living in this labyrinthine environment. The only one who could not stand it was Harris, who spent all his time in his room. Aside from cooking for Xia Fei, he spent all his time studying Xia Fei, including his heart rate, blood pressure, and every other detail.
Before entering the supergravity zone, Xia Fei called Avril and told her that he was going to a place with no signal and that there was no need for her to worry.
It was basically impossible for a girl who was experiencing her first awakening of love not to worry about her sweetheart. Though Avril did not say anything, her eyes were filled with unease as she kept asking Xia Fei where he was going.
Xia Fei did not mention anything about the supergravity zone. He knew that with Avril's personality, it was not impossible for her to send a fleet from Starlink Corporation to look for him. This was what Avril had done when Xia Fei was lost in the Wild Star Region.
After finally dispelling Avril's doubts, Xia Fei had a long-distance meeting with Andre and the others on Earth. Producing an energy-shield booster was not a simple task. Putting an idea into practice required months and years of research and experimentation.
Currently, the energy-shield booster was still in the experimental stage. They had already produced a few batches of samples, but these samples still had some flaws. The energy shield's recovery rate was not stable, and it was extremely easy to damage it.
Using high-grade materials to make up for the current shortcomings could be done, but it would increase the cost and difficulty of production, which was not worth it.
The best way to solve this problem was to find an inexpensive and relatively stable substitute material, and the current experiments were centered around this topic. Quantum Holdings searched for suitable metals from all over the universe and began testing them one by one. Though this old method was cumbersome and a little slow, the results were still decent.
Turning off the screen, Xia Fei lit a cigarette and went to Harris' room.
He saw Harris busying himself in front of a computer screen. On it was a diagram of a human body. Bones and blood vessels were all clearly visible, as if a person had been stripped of their skin.
Xia Fei suddenly felt that the person on the screen was very familiar. Their physique was similar to his.
Furrowing his brows, Xia Fei asked, Harris, what is this?
"This is you," Harris said hurriedly. "I built a model based on your body. Look, doesn't it look like you?"
Xia Fei shook his head. He did not know much about genetic biologists, so he was not too concerned about Harris' research topic. All he needed to know was that Harris was a talent that he might be able to use in the future or that he might be able to bring benefits to Quantum Holdings. Since he was already wearing the life bracelet, Xia Fei would let him do whatever he wanted.
"I suddenly remembered that I have a very strange bug in my hand. Do you want to study it?" Xia Fei asked.
The insectoid that Xia Fei was referring to was the one he had killed in the ancient ruins. Xia Fei had gone to Heritage Planet right after that, and since he had been busy with Avrils and Old Porters matter, he had not had the chance to sell the carcass of the insectoid, so he simply gave it to Harris to study.
The research of genetic organisms was Harris' main topic, and it was worth it to let him study it. Who knows, there might really be some research results.
"What strange bug?" Harris asked curiously.
Xia Fei swiped his finger across his spatial ring and took out the carcass of the insectoid along with a sample of its blood.
Harris was shocked after hearing Xia Fei describe the characteristics of the insectoid. He put on a pair of silicone gloves and used a scalpel to examine the carcass in the room. His eyes were filled with excitement as if he had found some kind of treasure.
"This insectoid's physiological structure is very strange. Ill need to study it carefully before I can give you an answer, but there aren't any equipment on the ship, so I can't guarantee anything," Harris said with his head lowered.
Xia Fei shrugged. "Also, I discovered something special. The insectoids are very resistant to my mental techniques. I can't control them. Do you know why?"
This was a question that had been plaguing Xia Fei for a long time. The fact that the Beast Spirit Codex could control beasts had already been proven, but the insectoids were not within Xia Fei's control, which made him very angry.
Harris chuckled. "Insectoids and beasts aren't the same kind of creatures, especially when it comes to their brain structure. The lower the rank of the insectoid, the simpler the brain. I wonder if that's the reason, but I happen to have a report I wrote a long time ago when I was a trainee researcher. Ill sort it out and send it to you later."
Xia Fei nodded and walked out of Harriss room. Now that the man was his slave, he would not tell anyone anything about Xia Fei. The life bracelet would immediately stop him the moment he had such thoughts, so Xia Fei was not at all worried that Harriss would learn of his secrets.
A few moments later, Harris sent an email to Xia Fei's mailbox.
There was still a thirty-hour journey before they reached the supergravity zone. Xia Fei had nothing to do, so he began reading the report with interest in the command deck.
Judging from the time, Harris had written the report over a hundred years ago. He was still very young back then, yet the scope of the research and the cryptic jargon in the report had already left Xia Fei scratching his head. It was evident that Harris's reputation as a genius was not just for show.
The report started from the physiological structure of the human body all the way to the habits of the insectoids and other races. There was a detailed description of their physiology, psychology, and even their diet. What caught Xia Fei's attention the most was the analysis of the brain structure of each race.
The reason why all high-level lifeforms had intelligence was because they had developed brains. There were many different races, but their brains were surprisingly the same.
The analysis pointed out that the insectoids' brain structure was the most diverse among all the known races in the universe. Depending on the insectoid's rank, their brain capacity and composition would be different. The low-rank insectoids' brains were extremely simple, and they could only make some simple responses according to the changes in their surroundings.
Meanwhile, the high-rank insectoids were completely different. Their brains were closer to that of humans, and their brain capacity was even larger than that of humans. This was why the insectoids were so polarized today. The high-rank insectoids were as intelligent as humans, while the low-rank insectoids were completely devoid of intelligence and were still in the primitive stage of reptiles.
Xia Fei found it more and more interesting the more he read. Phantom did not understand what was described in the report, so all he could do was stand by the side and worry.
Once Xia Fei found something interesting, he would completely immerse himself in it. Xia Fei did not eat or drink for more than ten hours, reading Harriss' report like a madman.
After reading the report twice, Xia Fei stretched his back and turned off the projected screen. He lit a cigarette for himself and took a deep drag.
Just what is this report talking about? Does it say why the Beast Spirit Codex is ineffective against the insectoids? Phantom asked.
Xia Fei smiled. Though the report didnt explain this phenomenon, I can vaguely guess what it is.
"Why?"
Because the insectoids are not animals, Xia Fei softly said.
If they are not animals, then what are they? Phantom curiously asked.
All this time, due to the insectoids unique form, humans had always treated these ugly insects as ordinary reptiles. There was an element of discrimination in this because the insectoids already had their own technology and could build their own warships. They were a truly intelligent race, and their strength was comparable to that of humans.
Xia Fei shrugged. "It's the same thing as us."
Phantom pursed his lips. How is that possible? We are humans, and they are insectoids. How can we be the same?
Xia Fei calmly replied, Brains. The brains of all intelligent races have a common characteristic, and that is crystallized nucleic acid. Due to the insectoids unique characteristics, a large portion of them do not have crystallized nucleic acid in their brains, so my Beast Spirit Codex can be of some use against some of the weaker insectoids, but I cant control them.
Phantom shook his head. I still dont understand what you are saying.
Simply put, the Beast Spirit Codex is a super telepathic technique used to control beasts. Because the insectoids have already broken away from the concept of beasts, I have no way of controlling them.
They are not beasts? Then what exactly are the insectoids? Phantom asked in disbelief.
An intelligent race. They have the same brain structure as us humans, emotions, and intelligence, Xia Fei said in a deep voice.
Perhaps it was because Xia Fei's explanation was too shocking, but Phantom took quite a while to recover from his shock. Actually, it was not just him; most humans would be shocked if they knew the truth. No one would be willing to believe that these filthy insectoids actually had the same brain structure as humans.
Xia Fei paused for a moment before continuing. "What's truly shocking isn't just that. Since all sapient races have similar brain structures, that means that if humans can open their seventh brain region to obtain abilities, the other sapient races can do the same."
What?! Phantom could not believe his ears. Are you saying that the insectoids also have special ability users?
"Yes." Xia Fei hugged his head with both hands, propping his legs up on the control panel. They also have a special region in their brains, but their degeneration is even more severe than that of humans, so their special region has been completely sealed off.
Phantom was completely speechless. It was fine if all intelligent races had similar brains, but even other races had special abilities. As a proud human, Phantom found it very hard to accept that he was compared to insectoids.
Is this what the report says, or are you guessing? Phantom asked.
Xia Fei chuckled. Of course, it's just my guess, but it's not without any basis. It's clearly written in the report.
That was when the flashing red light of the communication system interrupted the conversation between Phantom and Xia Fei. The screen indicated that it was a communication request from Qin Mangs.
Xia Fei chuckled. The old man must have known that I'm going to the supergravity region. Guess what he's going to say to me?
Who knows? Phantom was still thinking about what Xia Fei had just said when he casually answered.
