Chapter 144: Death Trio Star Region

The signal receiver that Old Porter had given Xia Fei was a golden orb. A fiery red glow was flickering inside the orb, alternating between bright and dark.

This signal receiver had not reacted at all in the past year, but now that he had returned to the Alliance, the orb was already flashing. Could Old Porter have sent a message?

Xia Fei hurriedly picked up the signal receiver. In Xia Fei's mind, Old Porters was a very mysterious person. On the surface, he appeared to be just a repairman with superb repair skills, yet this repairman had given Xia Fei a signal receiver left behind by the ancient civilization and an overclocking chip, which was also from the ancient civilization. Just how could a normal repairman possess such items?

What was even stranger was that he had actually used the meteor script unique to the large families of the Alliance to write. It must be known that this meteor script was something that could not be learned without at least a decade of practice, so Xia Fei could tell that Old Porter must have come from an illustrious background.

Xia Fei held the golden orb in his hand, and all of a sudden, a screen popped up, with a few simple lines of words written on it.

Go to Black Abyss Star Region, DLC-113, and look for Windchime, Xia Fei muttered to himself.

Black Abyss! Phantom exclaimed in shock, his two eyes widening as if he was very afraid of this name.

Whats wrong with Black Abyss? Xia Fei asked with furrowed brows.

Phantom pursed his lips. Black Abyss isnt a good place. You'll understand once you look at the star map. Why would Old Porters go to Black Abyss alone?

Judging from the date, Old Porters letter had been sent two months ago. The reason why he had only received it today was probably because Heritage Planet could not communicate with the outside world.

Xia Fei furrowed his eyebrows. It's been so long; could something have happened to Old Porters?

Turning on his microcomputer, Xia Fei quickly pulled up the star map. The computer system's star map covered all the known star regions, and there were over three hundred just within the Alliance's jurisdiction. Outside of the Pan-Human Alliance, there were still many star regions that humans did not understand, so they could not be included in the star map.

After entering Black Abyss in the address bar, the screen quickly displayed the star map of this Star Sector and the surrounding Star Sectors in 3D. The route from Endaro Star Sector to Black Abyss Star Sector was also clearly visible.

A moment later, Xia Fei sucked in a cold breath. There was no such thing as north, south, east, and west in the universe. Everything depended on up, down, left, and right to determine one's position. The Endaro Star Region was closer to the insectoid territory, so it was considered one of the more remote star regions in the Alliance.

From the Endaro Star Region to the Black Abyss Star Region, one would have to pass through the entire Panhuman Alliance's territory. The distance between them was more than ten million lightyears!

More importantly, although the Endaro Star Region was remote, it was at least within the known range. As long as one passed through the Wild Star Region, they would be in the insectoid territory, and humans still had some understanding of the insectoids.

The Black Abyss, on the other hand, was completely different. If one continued to advance from there, they would enter a large unknown area. In other words, no one knew what was beyond the Black Abyss, what kind of creatures lived there, and what kind of dangers awaited them.

Looking at the star regions around the Black Abyss, such as the Evil Gulfstream Star Region and Terminus Star Region, one could tell just how terrifying and dangerous these places were just by hearing their names.

If the massive Panhuman Alliance was like Earth, then the Black Abyss, Evil Gulfstream, and Terminus Star Region were three star regions that were tightly hugged together, forming a spherical structure. They were like the moon, millions of lightyears away from the Panhuman Alliance, far away from mainstream human society.

Why is the Black Abyss Star Region so far away from the Panhuman Alliance? Xia Fei asked in a deep voice.

Phantom sighed. These three star regions are also known as Death's Corner. A long, long time ago, there used to be a stable wormhole that led directly from the Alliance's Iris Star Region. A large number of humans, either because they were adventuring or because they had no home to return to, traveled through the wormhole and settled down in these three star regions.

About four hundred years ago, this wormhole suddenly collapsed, so Death's Corner became an enclave of the Panhuman Alliance. Though it still belongs to the Panhuman Alliance in name, it's actually independent, and the Alliance has no way of controlling it that far away.

Xia Fei realized the severity of the situation. He used the flight path calculation system to calculate the distance from the Endaro Star Region to the Black Abyss Star Region. Even if they followed the shortest route, it would still take them at least two and a half months, of which they would have to travel through the vast, uninhabited region.

It must be mentioned that in this era where warp engines were highly common, using two months to travel from one place to another was an unimaginable distance!

How do the people there live? Are there any armies protecting these three star regions? Xia Fei asked.

There are armies, but after the wormhole collapsed, these armies no longer listen to the Alliance's military and have become warlords. They each occupy a region and hate each other. The local supplies mainly rely on their own production, as well as the large scale military transport that happens once every six months.

Because these three star regions are already independent, the Alliance's supplies to them are getting less and less. In short, it's an extremely chaotic region. There's no unified management, no supplies, and the lives of the people there are as lowly as ants, Phantom said.

Xia Fei thought about it. Doesn't that mean that the Death Trio Star Region is the same as the Wild Star Region?

Phantom waved his hand. The Wild Star Region only has a few small groups of pirates and doesn't have any large-scale military power, while the Death Trio Star Region has over a hundred combined fleets stationed there. These fleets have long become the private mercenaries of the local tyrants and warlords, and they're much more ferocious than the pirates. Add to that the countless small fleets and pirates, and it's simply chaotic to the extreme.

If the Panhuman Alliance is so powerful, why don't they pacify this place? Logically speaking, the Alliance should have the strength to do so, Xia Fei asked.

Phantom snorted. The Panhuman Alliance is actually a loose organization. The Alliance doesn't have many fleets of their own, and the truly large-scale armed forces are all in the hands of the few sovereign nations. The Death Trio Star Region is so barren and doesn't have much to offer, so the sovereign nations can't be bothered with it. The Alliance can't do anything even if they want to.

Besides, though these warlords and tyrants are already independent, they're still nominally under the Alliance's management. As long as they keep up appearances, the politicians won't care about the lives of the people.

Xia Fei slowly came to understand that the Death Trio Star Region was a lawless region. It had separated itself from mainstream human society and formed its own culture and rules. It was like a nation within a nation, not needing to listen to anyone's orders. The only difference was that it still had the words' Panhuman Alliance 'in its name.

It's indeed a little troublesome. Xia Fei muttered to himself as he lay on his bed. I wonder why Old Porters would want me to go to a place like this.

The Catalyst-class destroyer slowly rose into the air and headed back to Heaven Execution Training Camp.

The moment the warship left the communication shield of Planet YZZ 7526, Xia Fei's microcomputer automatically connected to the interplanetary internet. Just like the last time he was in the Wild Star Region, countless emails popped up, and the number was far more than the last time.

Every once in a while, Xia Fei would disappear for a while. It seemed to have become a habit for Xia Fei, but this time, his disappearance was very strange, and the duration of his disappearance was much longer than before.

Xia Fei closed the email and waited patiently. He knew that Avril, the little elf, would come looking for him very soon. As long as there was an interplanetary internet, she would always be there. It was as if she was everywhere, and no rules of the interplanetary internet could stop her.

After waiting for a full ten minutes, Avril still had not contacted Xia Fei.

Xia Fei was very puzzled, and this puzzlement slowly turned into a feeling of extreme unease. Could something have happened to Avril?

It could be said that Xia Fei knew nothing about the mysterious Avril. He did not even know Avril's phone number or her address. Xia Fei was not even sure if this name was real or not.

Opening his email system, Xia Fei sent Avril an email, telling her that he had returned and asking about Avril's recent situation.

Email was the only means of communication between him and Avril. Aside from that, Xia Fei had no other way of contacting her.

In the past, whenever Avril wanted to contact Xia Fei, she could find him anytime and anywhere. Even if Xia Fei changed to an anonymous account, he would not be able to shake off Avril's tracking. Meanwhile, whenever Xia Fei wanted to talk to Avril, he only needed to send an email, and Avril would quickly connect to video call him if there was nothing else. Even if it was inconvenient for her to talk, she would still send him a reply and set up a time to meet.

This time, however, Xia Fei's email was like a stone sinking into the ocean. There was no reply at all. Not only did Avril not contact him, there was not even a single reply.

Xia Fei felt very depressed. He and Avril were like two old friends. Though they did not see each other often, there was still a part of him that missed her. Now that this part of him had suddenly disappeared, Xia Fei felt very upset.

Xia Fei tapped on the screen lightly, ready to send Avril another email, but he stopped midway.

The truth was very clear. With Avril's amazing means, she would be able to contact Xia Fei as long as she wanted to. If she did not want to, what was the point of sending a million emails?

Right now, Xia Fei was most worried that something would happen to Avrils. As for everything else, Xia Fei did not really care.

Old Porters fate is unknown in the Black Abyss Star Region, and now there's no news of Avril either. Just what is going on? Xia Fei muttered to himself as he lay on his bed.

The soft mattress was the easiest to make a person sleepy. Xia Fei slowly drifted off to dreamland as he thought about these troublesome matters. Very soon, Xia Fei fell asleep.
