The corridor was long, and the walls on both sides were painted white. Every few meters, there was a rusted iron door, and there was a yellowed seal on the door like it had been there for a long time.
"I didn't notice it the last few times, but this seems to be a corridor for cadavers."
Some medical schools had corridors specifically for cadavers, and they were usually underground. The ground was flat, and it was easy for a small car to move. Other than that, there were no other decorations.
"Stop looking, let's go to the storeroom." Liu Xianxian pulled on Ma Yin's arm and walked into the corridor on the right.
The left side was the morgue, and the right side was a normal storeroom for abandoned equipment.
The two walked down the corridor for a long time when Ma Yin suddenly heard footsteps coming from behind her. She quickly stopped and shone the phone behind her.
"Xiao Yin? What's wrong? "
"Someone seems to be following us." Ma Yin was not sure, but when she listened closely, the footsteps disappeared again.
"Did you hear it wrong?" Liu Xianxian forced an ugly smile. It had become her habit to smile in the face of fear.
"Let's go into the storeroom first. This corridor is so straight that there's no place to hide."
Ma Yin and Liu Xianxian soon reached the first corner, and there was a wooden door that was covered in scars.
The lock was badly damaged, and there were all kinds of black scratches on the door. The most baffling thing was that someone had written the word "Paradise" on the door.
"This is weird. When we left last time, I remember closing the door."
The door was ajar, as if someone had gone in when they left.
"Be careful." Ma Yin used both hands to push the door open. She stopped at the door and did not enter immediately.
The girl looked like she was careless, but she was actually quite careful. She shone the phone into the room and scanned the shelves, but she did not find anything out of place.
"This time, we'll stick together. We won't split up." Ma Yin took care of Liu Xianxian and walked ahead.
The education block had been closed for many years, so theoretically speaking, no one should have entered this storeroom for a long time, but weirdly enough, there was very little dust inside like someone would come in to clean it every once in a while.
Most of the junk from Western Jiujiang Medical University was piled up there. It was filled to the brim with all kinds of weird stuff.
There were all kinds of bottles and jars on the shelves, some of which were soaked in a viscous orange-red liquid. It seemed that they had been used to store organ specimens.
There were many things like this. If a normal person came in, they would probably turn around and leave immediately, but as medical students, Ma Yin and Liu Xianxian did not think that these things were that scary.
Walking through the middle of the racks, the interior was more messy. There were fire extinguishers, broken photocopiers, and computers in the corner. Tables and chairs were stacked on top of each other. The drawers were stuffed with all sorts of reports, and there were broken sports equipment in the gaps between the chairs.
Walking further in, there were costumes that were no longer used by the Drama Club, as well as drawing boards and easels that had been used by the Art Club.
When Western Jiujiang Medical University moved to the new campus, most of the discarded items that had been cleared out were piled up here, and the place was filled to the brim.
"I've asked the counselor at the new campus. Before Western Jiujiang Medical University moved, a few clubs handed over items that were difficult to carry and unwilling to leave behind to the school. To save time, the school placed them all in the underground storage." Ma Yin walked ahead alone. She held her phone and started to search through the junk. "The art club should be the only place that could use sculptures. Tonight, we'll focus on this area."
After walking for a few steps, Ma Yin realized that Liu Xianxian was still standing where she was. "What's wrong?"
"Look at that."
Liu Xianxian pointed at the computer in the corner. The plug behind the monitor was plugged into the wall socket. "When I came in last time, I noticed that the plug was stuck in the socket. I was worried that it might cause a fire, so I pulled it out, but now it's been replaced again."
"Looks like someone did come in. Could it be a thief?"
"A thief wouldn't be so bored as to come here to play with the computer, right? Furthermore, this is a model that was abandoned several years ago. It's probably unusable now. " Liu Xianxian pressed the switch on the monitor, and after a while, to her surprise, the monitor started to work normally.
The monitor glowed coldly, and the image seemed to be stuck. It would not load.
"Forget about it. Let's look for the thing first. Even if someone comes in, it won't affect us." Ma Yin turned to leave. She ran to the place where the easels and drawing boards were. She moved the amateur-looking paintings to the side and looked for possible sculptures.
Liu Xianxian stood where she was. She looked at the monitor, and for some reason, she could see the shape of a person on the screen.
She leaned closer to the screen, and the shape became clearer. It looked like a man, bald, and his face was twice the size of a normal person's.
"Liu Xianxian, come help!" Ma Yin shouted. She was holding a heavy easel.
"Okay." Liu Xianxian pulled out the plug and walked to Ma Yin's side to hold the easel.
The two worked together to move the few easels that blocked their way. There was a wooden cupboard against the wall behind it.
"There might be something hidden inside this cupboard." Ma Yin went to open the door, but when her fingers touched the cupboard door, she immediately pulled back.
"What's wrong?"
"There's something stuck to the handle." Ma Yin rubbed her fingers and sniffed. "Why would there be formalin on the handle?"
If there was formalin on the stairs, it could be explained by someone accidentally spilling it, but there was formalin on the cupboard behind the easel. That was too strange.
"Could there be a cadaver inside the cupboard?"
Ma Yin's heart raced, and her breathing became uneven. She prepared herself and opened the cupboard door a gap.
She peered through the gap. There was no cadaver inside the cupboard, only a few paintings.
Ma Yin sighed in relief and took out the paintings. However, when she saw the content of the paintings, her heart squeezed.
The painting was abstract. It depicted a medical student performing an autopsy, but strangely enough, the painting was drawn from the perspective of the cadaver.
Lying on the cold table, she looked at the tightly wrapped medical student beside her, at the knife in his hand, and finally at her own body.
