Following the explosion on Fulton Street, the filming of "This Killer Is Not Too Cold" finally began. Although there were some delays due to some small problems, the crew still completed the filming outside the street as planned.
The following scenes were basically all indoor scenes. First, they had to make up for the scenes where the special police surrounded Leon, such as the intense gunfight and how Leon disguised himself as a special police officer and got out.
"Scene 94, Scene 45, get ready!" Following the supervisor's voice, the prop gun began to fire. Similarly, compared to the firefight on the big screen, the scene on the set was really terrible, especially when Adriaan didn't even allow blanks to be used for safety purposes. Other than some close-up shots, he didn't even allow blanks to be used, which made it look even more fake. This was similar to the explosion scene, where it had to be edited in post-production to have an impact. It was not an exaggeration to say that they were making a game.
Of course, the actors didn't think that they were playing a game. All of them were fully focused on the firefight. Although Adriaan had directed gunfights before, this was the first time he had directed such a large-scale firefight, so he still needed Masterson to help steer the ship.
This part of the scene took about half a day. Adriaan, who had produced many movies, was already very good at learning during filming. Coupled with the fact that he had a lot of classic scenes in his head for reference, everything went smoothly. He even made a few suggestions, and after analyzing them with the motion design team, they made Jean Renault's shooting look sharper.
However, with the previous lesson, some scenes were still delayed, even though Natalie's performance that afternoon was very good. Therefore, the following scenes were scattered scenes of daily life, such as Matilda buying things and returning home, or cleaning Leon's room and maintaining his gun, or Leon sitting and sleeping with sunglasses on, and so on.
Although Leon and Matilda changed residences twice in the movie, the rented apartments used for filming were all nearby. At most, it was a little troublesome to run around.
As the filming continued, Adriaan began to add some main story lines to the trivial scenes of daily life, the most important of which was Matilda sitting on the floor of the stairs and smoking, and then meeting Leon.
"Remember, Nada, you just need to raise the cigarette, don't put it in your mouth." Adriaan stopped next to Natalie and told her what was going to happen next. He redesigned the scene here, intending to use the girl's action of moving the cigarette away from her face to show that she was smoking. He didn't want Matilda to have a scene with a cigarette in her mouth, which would obscure the audience's impression. As long as it was adjusted well, it would be good for the movie.
"Why can't I put it in my mouth, Eide?" Natalie asked. "Don't you think it looks a little fake?"
"Even if I put it in my mouth, it won't seem real." Adrian laughed. "And the audience won't like to see a 12-year-old girl smoking, even on the screen."
"But I didn't really smoke!" Natalie pursed her lips and spread her hands. Although there was a look of disapproval on her little face, her obedient and mature appearance was very lovable.
"Yes, but other people don't think so." Adriaan couldn't help but rub her head. "Okay, clever little girl, you have to understand that unless you never interact with other people, you have to consider other people's opinions."
"Okay, okay, I got it." Natalie shrugged and made a face at Adriaan. "How many times has this been, Eide. Does my head feel good?"
Adriaan laughed and shook his head. Then he called everyone to get ready. After spending some time together, Natalie, with her delicate and cute appearance and maturity that far exceeded her peers, had established a preliminary relationship with the crew. She had also become more and more familiar with him and the other two leads.
Renault and Oldman were very funny in private and often liked to joke around during breaks. With Natalie's cleverness, she often talked to them, and their relationship was very harmonious. However, Adrian was the one who got along with her the most. Just like what he said before, when a girl shared her most intimate things with you, she would automatically treat you as the person she trusted the most.
In fact, after the shooting that day, Natalie secretly told Adriaan that the reason why she was able to perform so well at the last time was not only because she didn't want to admit defeat, but also because she simulated the feeling of her parents being killed. She also didn't want to let him down. This was a good sign, wasn't it? So after a few days, they began to call each other by nicknames.
"Everyone, get ready!" With the assistant director's voice, the entire crew began to move. This time, Adriaan didn't personally hold the camera, but stood aside and watched quietly.
Leon didn't like to take the elevator, so every time he went back to his room, he took the stairs. He wore a black windbreaker, round sunglasses, and a small round hat. This made him look a little rustic and unconventional at the same time, so he attracted the attention of the girl sitting in the corridor. She took the initiative to greet him when he walked past her.
Similarly, this young girl with a lonely aura made Leon's eyes involuntarily fall on her. After looking at her for a few seconds, he asked, "Why did you hide the cigarette?"
"This building is full of rats." The girl lowered her head and replied in a soft voice, "I don't want the old man to know. There's enough trouble."
Leon immediately noticed the bruise at the corner of her eye, so he bent down and asked, "What happened?"
"I fell off the bike." The girl avoided his eyes.
Leon didn't say anything more. He straightened up and walked back to his room, but the girl stopped him again. "Don't tell my dad about smoking, okay?"
Leon looked at her. Although he still didn't say anything, he continued to walk to his room. However, the girl knew that he had agreed, so her eyes stayed on him until he entered the room. Just like that, a preliminary connection and trust was established.
"Very good, very good!" Adriaan couldn't help but clap his hands, and suddenly there was a round of applause.
"Are you saying 'give way', Eide?" Natalie immediately returned to her mischievous look, blinking at Adriaan, and asked with a smile.
"Okay, Nada, you know what I'm talking about." Adriaan rolled his eyes, but still added, "You're all very good, especially you, Nada. Matilda is almost tailor-made for you."
That's right. As the filming time increased, Adriaan could basically confirm this point. There were too many similarities between Matilda and Natalie. For example, they were rebellious and stubborn, and they both tried their best to make themselves appear more mature, and so on. Of course, Natalie was smarter than Matilda. Although she wasn't even 12 years old and was still a little girl, she knew what she wanted and would work hard to fight for it. She also knew how to compromise and how to express herself.
However, she was very compatible with the character. From a certain point of view, she could be considered to be acting as herself.
"Okay, it's your turn, Gary." Adriaan gave Natalie a thumbs up and then called out to Oldman, who was preparing. Next was the debut of the evil police officer, Stan.
As a police officer in the Drug Enforcement Unit, Stan gave a bag of drugs to Matilda's father for safekeeping. However, two months later, the 100% purity had become 90%. Needless to say, there was something fishy going on. However, Matilda's father was blinded by greed and insisted that he didn't know. In the end, it caused the tragedy of the destruction of his family.
It had to be admitted that Oldman had the ability to play this kind of role. When the small minions discussed with Matilda's father without any results, they could only disturb Stan, who was listening to the music. He turned around, and the neurotic evil look in his eyes was quite oppressive. It even made the fat actor who played Matilda's father involuntarily suck in a breath of cold air.
Although it was a bit funny to touch and sniff the other party, when he spoke in a low voice, the oppressive feeling didn't lessen at all. "Do me a favor and find out who did it."
"It turns out that my judgment was correct. These roles are too suitable for you, Gary." After shooting these scenes, Adriaan said to Oldman half-jokingly.
"Be careful of your words, Eide." Oldman glanced at him and reached out his hand to point in the air. He still spoke in that low and oppressive tone. Obviously, he was still immersed in the emotions of the role and hadn't completely pulled himself out.
"You really deserve to be an excellent actor." Natalie came to Adriaan's side at this time and looked at Oldman, who took the water bottle from the assistant and raised his head to take a big gulp. She stuck out her tongue and said enviously.
"This is not the best." Adriaan shook his head. "Do you know Jodie Foster? Not only can she get herself into character quickly, but she can also get out of it quickly. After shooting, she can immediately recover after eating a big sandwich. "
"Really?" Natalie asked curiously.
"Of course, when you go to Los Angeles to shoot a movie in the future, you can ask her yourself," Adriaan said with a smile.
"Shooting a movie in Los Angeles …" Natalie rolled her eyes and no one knew what she was thinking.
"Okay, don't think so much. Go to the costume designer and change clothes. Next, we are going to shoot the most important scene for Matilda and Leon," Adriaan said at this time.
"That rescue scene?" The little girl's eyes lit up. "Didn't you plan to shoot it in a few days?"
"Because your performance today was very good. I think it's worth a try." Adriaan stared at her, making Natalie a little embarrassed.
"Of course, it's also because I don't want to increase Gary's burden. If he spends a lot of time adjusting after every shoot, we will be in trouble." Adriaan suddenly changed the topic. "Otherwise, if we get too deep into the character, maybe one day he will find a gun and kill us all."
"I say, Eide, next time when you speak ill of others behind their backs, can you not let the person involved hear it?" Oldman, who had recovered, said mockingly at this time.
"Unfortunately, Gary, I didn't say it behind their backs. I said it to their faces." Adriaan put his hands down and immediately got a burst of laughter.
